Wirksworth is a vibrant, arty market town with great pubs and restaurants. It boasts a number of independent shops including vintage and antique shops, delis and coffee shops. Within 2 minutes of open countryside.

  • Perfectly set up to have everything you need! We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes and Steve showed a genuine interest in what we wanted to gain from our stay (only 1 night but I think we managed to make the most of it!). Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to explore the countryside!

  • Our first trip to the Peak District and this was such a perfect base. The Brew House really is the most beautifully designed and decorated accommodation. Every detail has been thought through making this such a great stay. Steve and his wife were the most generous hosts, giving wonderful recommendations and knowledge of the local area. I cannot recommend a stay here enough - so cute and we can't wait to return!

    Jen2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely stay at the brew house. Steve was very friendly and helpful and the brew house was beautifully decorated with everything you could need plus lots of personalised touches. Highly recommend, great location too!

  • A wonderful place and a unique town. The brew house is gorgeous and well thought out. There's plenty to do in Wirksworth and Steven was very friendly and welcoming and had plenty of local knowledge.

    Mark2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was an excellent host and full of information about the village and surrounding areas. The Brew House was warm and cosy in the perfect location. Would definitely recommend others to stay here.

  • We were made very welcome by Sue and Steve. It is perfectly located in the centre of the town and Sue and Steve were very helpful offering advice as to where best to explore and eat. The accommodation was brilliant, and appeared just like the photos in their profile. It was fantastic to have milk, delicious biscuits and tea/coffee available for us to use. We will definitely stay again if in the area. Thank you.

    Beth2015-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous evening staying at the Wash House-the hosts were incredibly hospitable and made us feel so welcome. The Wash House was beautifully decorated and very inspirational-what you can do with a small space aka George Clarke ??? The garden was tranquil and made the perfect place for an early Sunday morning coffee. I would recommend this place to those who are quite athletic and dont need to use the loo lots in the night.

    Sarah2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very memorable stay at the Wash Shed! It's a very unique place, full of character and we loved it's quirkiness. Steve went the extra mile to make sure we had a great weekend. The vinyl player in the wash shed was an especially nice touch. We will definitely recommend it to our friends

    Jonny2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place. Very compact, but well thought out with everything we needed and very tastefully done. Lovely welcome from Steve's daughter in law. Would definitely stay again, and would recommend to anyone with good mobility - the steps up to the mezzanine would be tricky to negotiate if any mobility issues.

    Kathryn2015-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The wash house was just as pictured and Steve was a great host, very welcoming and happy to offer loads of recommendations in the local area. The bed is not for the faint hearted as its up a steep ladder on a platform, but it's very comfy once you're in! Wirksworth was a lovely little town, and a great base for exploring the Peak District during the days. Worth a visit :)

    Alice2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely space in an ideal location to visit local areas with some great antique shops, beautiful sights and walks. Steve and Sue were very friendly and helpful, giving some great recommendations for places to eat and visit. Some lovely personal touches and very hospitable hosts.

    Heather2018-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed by Harriet as Steve & partner out of town - lovely reception and was given a comprehensive tour around the property and grounds. The wash house was really well thought out - country cottage style but with modern elements that made it a joy to stay in. Definitely a perfect retreat for a couple who are looking for a cosy getaway. Would highly recommend the local Le Mistral for dinner, and Carsington Water just a 10 minute drive away for a walk around the reservoir. Will be looking to return in the future.

  • Absolutely charming house in a great village! Our family of five had a wonderful stay in Cromford (scenic, friendly people, lots to do) and loved Linda's home. The house was beautifully designed and decorated, with plenty of space for everyone and all the comforts/conveniences of home. Great location just up the street from a wonderful Pub, "The Boat." Inspiring views. Would go back in a heartbeat.

    Barry2016-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's cottage is as described, it is well kept and in a great location for the village and surrounding area. The beds were very comfortable and it accommodated the five of us very well. We would stay here again, although maybe not with my 76 year old mother, the stairs were a little to steep for her.

    Rhian2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Myself & my family (4 of us in total including two children aged 11 & 13) have just spent a wonderful 4 days at this lovely cottage in Cromford! The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Matlock & Matlock Bath just a very short 10 min drive away or a 20 min walk. Cromford itself is very small but has excellent amenities in the fish & chip shops, The Boat Inn & Scarthin Books. The cottage offers great space when travelling with adults or older children as set over three floors there is plenty of private space when needed. The stairs are rather steep & narrow as comes with the territory of an older house but not a problem. The cottage garden is also delightful to sit out in the sunshine with a glass of wine. I was concerned about parking but we managed to park our Mini on the street not far away from the house at all. The kitchen is tiny! As is mentioned in the description but we managed breakfasts in there each morning & ate out most of the time anyway. If you are in the area on a Sunday I highly recommend The Bear pub at Alderwasley a short drive away for their excellent & generous Carvery. Beats a Sat night hangover into submission

    Natasha2016-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Linda's place. The house is charming and exactly as described. It was December when we stayed and the heating kept us toasty warm - the log burner was easy to use, perfect for cosy evenings in. The kitchen was small but very well equipped and the beds were comfy. The cottage was quiet and calm. Cromford is delightful! The nearby pub (just footsteps away) was bustling and friendly and the local bookshop is a slice of heaven! We would love to visit again. Thanks Linda for a truly relaxing stay!

    Luke&Chloe2016-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very welcoming, comfortable and homely, and matched the description online. It was the perfect base for a week spent exploring Cromford and the surrounding Peak District. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to others. Thank you Linda.

    Sandra2015-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location, great place that had everything we needed!

    Samantha2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very enjoyable weekend at Linda’s cottage in Cromford. The accommodation was cosy and as described and was well kitted out with great additional little touches such as books, DVDs and games. The cottage was in a great location for exploring the Peak district and Derbyshire Dales. We spent several evenings at the nearby Boat Inn as recommended by Linda which was very welcoming and serves great food. Linda responded to our questions promptly

  • Lovely cosy little barn, had everything we needed and incredible views. Could do with a little TLC and the bathroom lights weren't working. Penny was very helpful on the phone and we had an enjoyable stay. Lovely for a quiet stay in the Peak District.

  • Wonderful little barn with amazing views. Very unique place to stay with great access to the peak district.

  • Lovely and quirky, perfect for a night away. Two nice pubs within walking distance (1 / 1.5 miles). Outdoor WC may not be to everyone’s taste but no issue for us. Owners super helpful in arranging some flowers for my wife. Would loved to have stayed longer and explored the area via some walks.

    Lee2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little place with great views. It was slightly difficult to find at night (due to lack of lighting) we followed the pin on the map provided but it wasn’t quite accurate. Contacted Penny and she was great at directing us and guiding us to the gate at the speed sign after the fuel cafe (a nice little place minutes away) the place itself was very well kept and cosy. There are cooking facilities which are handy and would love to visit again. Thanks!

    Reena2018-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely, very peaceful and secluded. Although small, it is perfectly formed. There is a huge dvd selection and although there is no WiFi you still get 4g reception in the cottage. Thank you for a wonderful stay ❤️

    Suzanne2018-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The listing was accurate for what you get: a cute little cottage privately set in beautiful surroundings. Also that the toilet and bathroom are separate outside, and neither fresh towels nor milk are provided. Minor points, if you’re prepared with your own! Watch out for the local pubs’ kitchen closing times so you don’t get caught out like I did! :-) Communication and pointers were prompt and helpful from the hosts, and the cottage really is lovely. Thanks again!

    Cameron2018-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • A truly wonderful, quirky unique property perfect for couples on the doorstep of the Derbyshire Dales. Although small, the space was more than adequate, a very comfy double bed & great outdoor space for dining, star gazing! Absolutely hassle free check in & communication. • The cottage was beautifully presented and very well equipped. Cosy and comfortable, it was also well placed for exploring the area. We were made to feel most welcome and the arrival cake was scrummy! Would highly recommend it and we will be returning xx

  • This is a lovely, spotlessly clean and. well equipped cottage in the pretty little town of Wirksworth. Everything was exactly as described in the details and Jane was an incredibly helpful and responsive host who left thoughtful touches such as milk in the fridge, fresh flowers and a delicious cake. There is a folder in the cottage with lots of information about the town and the area. The beds were comfortable and arrival and departure was stress free. We wished we could have stayed longer.

    Antigone2018-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had lovely three days in Number 10. The cottage was stylish and cosy, with thoughtful touches and all the amenities you could want for a break in the Peaks. The cake was delicious, and the log burner welcome after a long walk in the snow. No fuss with check in and check out - easy to follow instructions. Jane was a great host.

    Steve2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Number 10 was a lovely cottage, cosy and comfortable and the cake waiting for us on arrival was a lovely touch! Wirksworth turned out to be a great place for food and we went on a beautiful walk exploring the surrounding areas - lots of hills though! Would definitely recommend this Airbnb to others.

    Eleanor2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • A truly beautiful cottage in the gorgeous Derbyshire Dales. There is nothing I can fault but much is to be praised. Jane thinks of everything and the cottage is beautifully appointed. As an Airbnb, this is much better (much) than the norm and the welcome cake and flowers were a thoughtful touch, which were gratefully looked upon and hungrily eaten by my family. If we are ever (I’m sure we will be) in the dales again, this is a place we’d happily return to for comforts as well as the walks, vistas and food that Wirksworth itself has to offer.

    Emma2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Jane's house and it will not be the last. Jane's house is immaculate. It is tastefully decorated and exceptionally well appointed. Communication with Jane is prompt and helpful. Nothing appears to be too much trouble. The location in the center of Wirksworth is perfect for a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and you really can relax and enjoy your holiday as soon as you arrive. I would highly recommend Jane's House

  • The Angel Forge was a charming, spacious and well-appointed cottage in the heart of Wirksworth! We were in town for a wedding at nearby St. Mary's Church, and could not have asked for a more ideal accommodation. Paul is a very thoughtful host, and greeted us upon our arrival to answer any questions. The cottage itself is sparkling and a lovely place to relax. We hope to return someday!

  • Had a lovely three night stay here and would certainly go back! We found the cottage to be exactly as described; cosy, clean and extremely well equipped. All of the furniture, utensils and crockery appear to be virtually brand new, along with the kitchen itself. Parking directly outside the cottage was never a problem for one car but would imagine it might be tricky to find parking for a second. The cottage is on quite a busy road but traffic noise is not disturbing due to double glazing. The Boat Inn and the Greyhound hotel are both within a few minutes walk and we can recommend both. The food at The Greyhound was incredible! Overall a lovely place to stay and a good base from which to explore the Peaks.

    Guy2017-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay here. Perfect location in a beautiful town, plenty to do near by. Loved the cottage, very comfortable space with plenty of nice touches to feel at home. Highly recommend.

  • Cromford is a great location, such a peaceful village with good amenities and easy access to Matlock and other local attractions. Lucy’s cottage is idyllic and nicely fitted out. There is a brand new bathroom and the beds are very comfy. Lucy made us feel very welcome with the complimentary tea and coffee. The only thing to be aware of is that the stairs are extremely steep and not suitable for a very elderly person or someone with mobility issues, but I believe Lucy makes this clear on the advert. Enjoy your stay!

    Khalid2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little cottage on the edge of the Peak District. It was great for us four friends for three nights. The cottage was clean, neat and tidy, and the host provides everything required. Highly recommended!!

  • a great property good location but be aware its a busy road and steep staircase. we had a 4 yr old abd 9 yr old who shared a double bed without hassle but be aware of the stairs and straight onto road from front door. lucy was the perfect host

    Jonathan2018-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy’s cottage was the perfect base to explore the beautiful Peak District. With walks right on the doorstep. Cromford was a lovely village with a decent pub to eat in. Close by to neighbouring villages if you want to explore further a field. The cottage itself is beautiful but as described in the description it has quite steep stairs, not a problem for us though. The road outside can get quite busy and noisy at times. Lucy is lovely and we would definitely stay again.

    Ben2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Oh my word, what an amazing find in the heart of the peaks. Thank you to our fabulous hosts Jane and Nick who had thought about EVERYTHING! The house lived up to its name and was so cosy and inviting. All the lovely added extras like milk in the fridge and some gorgeous snack pots too. Fab location for walks onto black rocks and Middleton. Loved every minute and we'll definitely be back

    Sarah2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Good location, clean, cosy and made homely by Jane's thoughtful touches. We loved our stay and were sad to have to come home.

    Rebecca2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was incredibly accommodating regarding arrival and check out times which was a great start but the cottage speaks for itself. Location allowed easy access to some of the best areas of the Peak District and the was so charming and cosy inside as well as being immaculately clean and tidy. Jane even left fresh orange juice, croissants and fresh local milk. The bed was super comfortable and we had some of the best sleep either myself or my girlfriend have had in ages. I couldn't recommend this stunning little cottage enough. We will totally be coming back again soon. Many many thanks!! :)

    Jacob2017-08-27T00:00:00Z

    Steve2018-09-30T00:00:00Z

    Richard2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jane had made a real effort to ensure the cottage was a home away from home and we were so comfortable staying there. The TV in the bedroom was a real treat and meant we could properly relax. We took the car most places but several villages were in walking distance.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.

    Lilo2018-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is a fabulous host. Quick to respond with some lovely personal touches. She left us cookies and dog biscuits for our pug and us on the first day and happily advised on dog friendly eateries. The view is truly breath taking and well worth the hill! Its so close to everything but far enough away to get away from it all. Our first airbnb experience setting the bar very high! We cant wait to come again

    Laura2018-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • A brilliant location, beautiful scenery from the patio. A very comfortable stay in a great location for walks.

    Kate2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at the painters cottage over new years with a couple of friends and absolutely loved it. It's a really charming cottage and we'll equipped with everything you could need. We particularly enjoyed the wood burner and would definitely stay again. All I would say is if your driving that the satnav wasn't totally sure where it was so just keep going till you get to the dead end sign and it's on the row to the right of that you can't drive the last bit but parking on the road was fine.

    Amelia2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely view from main bedroom windows to wake up to in the morning, some great places to visit nearby.

    Tara2018-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had lovely, comfortable stay at Painter's Cottage, especially when the wood burner took the chill off the November evenings. Ideally located up a (very steep) hill from Matlock Bath, to explore the surrounding towns and wonderful countryside. A compact but well kitted out kitchen was perfect for preparing simple family meals.

    Ian2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot on the hillside with beautiful views, especially in the summer! Comfortable stay with all facilities we needed. House is quite dark anywhere but the front, due to location, but cool due to its materials. Great location for the local areas. The main bedroom is glorious on a summers morning! As is the front terrace! Parking situation tricky, loading and unloading also difficult with a big car and if you lack confidence in manoeuvring. Some noise disturbance due to close proximity of surrounding houses but not overnight. Easy check in and great communication with host.

    Thomas2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay at Painters cottage which had lots of special touches that other Air bnb properties are without. Tea and coffee and other sundries. Steep hill to walk up from village but in central location. We had difficulty finding on-street parking but had a pleasant stay.

  • An absolutely beautiful little cottage set in beautiful Cromford. A real home away from home which is perfect for couples who enjoy walking and getting cosy at night next to the log fire. A newly wonderfully refurbished cottage with all mod cons including free view tv, iPod docking station and wifi. A beautiful garden with fantastic views from the top tier perfect with a morning brew. The log fire got so warm that the central heating wasn't required and enough logs left to last us all weekend. A couple of good pubs are available along the same road. The local chippy at the end of the road is worth a visit along with a tiny cafe also at the end of the road perfect for breakfast too and popular with local cyclists. I'll be back next year.

  • Toodles Cottage is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect setting for our few days away from work and the city. It is perfectly positioned amongst stunning countryside with a host of activities (walks, Chatsworth, Matlock town etc) on the doorstep and all the local amenities you might need. We did not get to meet Anya, however that's only because everything is so well explained and we were so well equipped with what we needed to know! The garden was an added bonus and the cottage is well stocked with the basics, and then some. I would absolutely recommend staying here and we had a lovely time.

    Cazz2015-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles is a lovely little cottage, perfect for a weekend away from the city. We've already been planning a trip back in the summer.

    Thom2016-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great break at Toodles Cottage over the October half term— it was a lovely home from home. It's a charming, well maintained cottage and is also well located to get to all the good sights the Peak District has to offer. A recommended stay!

    Guy2015-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and charming cottage. Anya was a great host - providing lots of helpful information ahead of our arrival. We really enjoyed the fire, and the garden area is very pleasant in the morning sun with lovely views of the surrounding area. Only downside was the very steep stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom, and a difficult parking spot out the front.

    Sophie2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We could not fault the cottage at all. It was very warm and homely and was very neat and clean. The cottage was very well looked after and well equipped. The 2 information books were extremely useful as we did 2 of the lovely walks in there during our stay. All 4 of us would definitely stay at the cottage again and will highly recommend it to anyone.

    Mike2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • lovely character property in a great location. owners were available when required and able to answer all our queries quickly and effectively. Cromford is a lovely village close to matlock and with some great restaurants. the property was really clean and ver comfortable.

    Natalie2015-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Everything has been thought of in this beautiful cottage! The location is ideal, we did a lovely walk up to Black Rocks from the cottage and enjoyed Cromford village and the book shop. Although on a fairly main road the cottage is set back and incredibly quiet. The garden is a beautiful space to escape and the real fire made our winter break cosy and super relaxing. We'd definitely come back again!

World Heritage cottage in bustling Cromford Our house in North Street is a beautifully presented grade two listed terraced cottage set in a peaceful location in the historic village of Cromford. This charming cottage has 2 bedrooms, a modern bathroom, lounge with log burner and a dining kitchen.
North Street is a sympathetically restored 240 year-old terraced, former millworkers' cottage situated in the village of Cromford on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park . The cottage combines simple Georgian style with modern comforts and is perfect for those wishing to explore the picturesque Peak District. The sitting room is tastefully furnished with an impressive stone fireplace and wood burning stove for a chilly evening. The modern kitchen provides all the cooking essentials as well as a table for dining. Original steep stairs lead to the first floor where there is a beautiful double bedroom with a spiral wooden staircase leading to the second floor, charming bedroom and bathroom with generous walk-in shower. Our outside bench is at the side of the cottage where you can relax to the sound of the spring filling the stone well. We Provide: All bedding, hand towels, bath towels, tea towels, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, toilet rolls and starter pack for the burner/stove.
Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)
  • Great space in a unique and historic setting. It is like staying in a piece of history with the house being part of the first planned industrial housing in Britain. The house itself is lovely and warm and really has a great rustic feel. If you are tall or unsteady, beware the steep stairs and low door frames, however it all adds to the charm of the place. The village of Cromford is lovely and quaint with plenty of walks in the local area and good village pubs. I would highly recommend Karen’s place to anybody visiting the peaks, Derwent valley or even as far as Derby.

    Danny2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully kept and characterful place in an historic and quaint street. Highly recommended.

    Michael2018-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s cottage was the perfect place to stay in Cromford. Very quiet and comfortable with everything you would need. The stairs were very steep but no problem, and the shower was great! Lovely historic building within reach of good walks and all that Cromford has to offer! Highly recommended!

    Catherine2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay in Cromford. The cottage was very cosy, comfortable and characterful. We explored the local area visiting the mills and some nearby walks in the Peak District. There were some nice places to eat nearby, we would recommend Parky's for breakfast and we also enjoyed the Boat Inn for a couple of drinks on a couple of evenings.

    Katy2017-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, compact cottage in centre of Cromford. Idea base for exploring Peaks. Modern facilities plus period sitting room. Karen as thought of every detail for your stay.

    Laura2018-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful little cottage, which was both beautiful outside and in. We spent a lovely weekend, split between visiting the local area including Chatsworth, Matlock and Bakewell (which are all within a 30min drive of the cottage) and relaxing in the cottage. The cottage is well done, blending modern comfort with period features. A bonus was having a working wood burner, that added to the cosy feel. Karen was a great host, checkin and out was seamless, with details provided in advance. Plenty information was available on the workings of the cottage too, such as heating and oven controls. We had a lovely stay and am sure we will be back again.

For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), Amazon prime and iPlayer and log burner, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs plus monks pew seat and a wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. I’m not one for ironing but it’s all laundered immediately after each stay. Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. Which you can share which is ideal for dogs and has a Moroccan gazebo, decking seating area, pizza oven (by request extra charge)and fire pit. This is located around the back of the property, down the drive. It is secure for dogs to play in. I will be in it most of the time with my dogs. You can pull up in the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also. I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock a Bath. Autumn/ winter much quieter. I’ve had mostly 5 stars for cleanliness for the snug and its bedding which I spend a good deal of time on, however a someone who seem to want to find fault and appear to be ‘looking’ for any slight defect has spoilt 1 review, therefore if you know you are extreme in your cleanliness requirements and are wanting fine hotel quality, please leave that pressure to someone else. For the rest it’s all hot washed, clean and ready for lovely happy appreciate Airbnb guests who I will take pleasure in hosting and helping with any of your requirement.
Good public transport right outside, train station near by. Lots of shops, pubs restaurants on your doorstep. Cromford beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Lots of restaurants, pubs. An amazing butchers and deli right across the road. Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Stayed for the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend and Deborah was so lovely, welcoming and accommodating with everything. The space is a great space for two people who want privacy with good kitchen facilities a lovely comfy pull out sofa bed and nice bathroom. It was a pleasure to stay here and we definitely will stay again in the future

    Nathan2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah was friendly and helpful with tips for exploring the area. The snug was an ideal base for this as its in close proximity to Cromford, Matlock bath, Matlock centre and only a 20 minute drive from Bakewell. There's some free parking opposite which was handy. The road is a busy one with a lot of HGV's passing through during the day. It didn't bother us personally but I guess it boils down to what you're used to! It does quieten down at night and shouldn't stop you sleeping! The house itself is an old stone building but was plenty warm inside. The shower was great too. Thank you for a lovely stay Jamie, Lauren & Heff

  • Deborah’s was amazing! Very good for the value. The surrounding area was also really nice to have long walks. Good pubs nearby. Many thanks Deborah! You were a very good host

  • Lovely quirky space. Well equipped and excellent location for Cromford it's self and the surrounding area. Dog friendy, which is a real bonus and great garden. Host was also helpful in suggesting places to eat and dog walk at Black Rock, which was fab.

  • Deborah was a very welcoming host. Perfect place to stay for a weekend in the peaks. Cute dogs

  • Great little place! Everything you would need. Deborah is very welcoming and friendly. Would absolutely recommend

  • Great little place, perfect for a weekend getaway. We loved the quirky decor and the location was perfect - right in the middle of Cromford close to the store, pub etc. We also walked to the Matlock Illuminations as recommended which was fun. Used the many walking and activity books /leaflets too - thanks!

    Beth2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a bad experience with this accommodation, we changed it to another Airbnb (which costed us more money) half way through the stay because it was ruining our holiday. Here is what’s wrong with it: Dirty place, horrible “bed” (it’s just a sofa, and bedsheets don’t even cover the whole size of the ‘bed’, so you have to sleep on the actual sofa, where everyone else before you had slept). There isn’t any privacy, as you can hear everything through the walls; lots of heavy vehicles passing right in front of the window, makes it a nightmare to sleep; awfully smelly sheets and towels; Deborah plays the drum at 4am, dogs barking next door; there are mice; the whole bathroom gets wet when you take a shower, which is annoying because your feet keep getting wet every time one needs to use the bathroom. I seriously do Not recommend this place to anyone. Avoid.

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • We enjoyed a lovely long walking weekend based in Matchbox Cottage. We were able to join Wirksworth circular walks from our doorstep and never felt the need to drive our car anywhere. You will find everything you need in the cottage, it was very cosy, clean and comfortable and a short 2 min walk into town, we didn't find any problems in the cottage and felt at home. The Hope and Anchor has now closed down in the town, but we enjoyed the 'Blacks Head' and had a lovely meal in the Mistral.

    Anne2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay at Matchbox Cottage. Great location with views from the front and back garden. The cottage had everything we needed and most importantly to us it was somewhere we could relax and feel comfortable. Also, the cottage was very clean and all of the house instructions were clear and easy to understand. We would definitely recommend Matchbox Cottage :) Also it's worth mentioning we stayed for 3 days and parked opposite the cottage with no tickets or problems.

    Emma2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I have just had a lovely weekend in Matchbox cottage despite cold, wet, windy weather. The cottage was ideally placed to enter the Eroica cycle event - being just 9 miles away from the start. Wirksworth was very pretty with friendly locals and good restaurants. We ate in La Mistral two nights running, good food and service. The cottage was lovely and a welcome tray a nice touch. Rob was a great communicator and replied to my e-mails promptly. We are planning our next visit. Thank you. x.

    Tina2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house is like a picture postcard. Small, but perfectly formed! Bags of character and a lovely, homely vibe. Such a nice space and the surroundings are beautiful too. Would highly recommend!

  • Lovely cottage really enjoyed our stay.

  • Had a fantastic time at matchbox cottage. It was lovely and clean and very cosy for me my husband and 2 dogs. Great location nice pubs and restaurants with in walking distance and lots of lovely walks from cottage door. Visited carsington water and dovedale stepping stones which were a short drive away. Could of stayed longer there is so much to do and explore. Would definitely stay here again.

    Anita2018-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at the lovely Matchbox Cottage. It’s really near the heart of the town, convenient for the local sites & amenities. The cottage itself is really comfortable, with traditional character but also with modern touches. We hope to stay there again sometime. A perfect little get away!

  • The perfect bolt hole and location for exploring this beautiful part of the English countryside. A really pretty cottage - small and compact but has everything you could possibly need, is beautifully furnished and has spectacular views. Tiina had sent comprehensive information prior to arrival and came over to the cottage when we got there. She was very welcoming - a lovely host - and then left us to it for the week, on hand if we needed her. Loads of things to do and see around the Peak District and we crammed a lot in but still felt very relaxed throughout. Just sitting in the garden with a book and beer, overlooking the views was wonderful. Very peaceful. Highly recommend this cottage for a weekend, week or longer stay for one person/two people. Be aware it is located up a steep hill (difficult to avoid in this area!), leaving the car at the bottom (only 100yds) and has steep stairs inside, so may not be suitable for all. We loved it! Thank you Tiina.

    Hilary2015-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Hillside Cottage made a perfect weekend getaway – a spotlessly-presented and very well appointed cottage, small but beautifully formed for two, located within easy walking distance of Wirksworth's picturesque town centre. We didn't want to hire a car, which wasn't a problem at all – Tiina kindly booked our 10 minute taxi ride from nearby Cromford station (I believe pre-booking is essential as the station's too small for a taxi stand), and everything else was easily reached on foot with beautiful walks right from our doorstep, and the town centre within a 15 minute leisurely stroll. Tiina has presented the cottage beautifully, from the stylish furnishings to the welcoming pint of milk and biscuits in the kitchen. We didn't cook much while we were there – but the kitchen is well kitted out should you want to. Instead, we visited Le Mistral (French brasserie) and the local chippie, taking packed lunches on our daytime walks. Tiina is a friendly and fantastically communicative host – although we didn't get to meet her in person, she kindly made local recommendations by text, and has compiled a helpful folder listing many more local options and ideas for local activities, restaurants/pubs and walks. Binoculars, local walking guides and a couple of Ordinance Survey maps were also available for us to use. If staying at the cottage for a longer time you might want to hire a car to make the most of the Peak District's daytrip and walking opportunities, but even without one the local area offered us the perfect variety of things to see and do for a relaxed weekend mini-break. In short, I would recommend Hillside Cottage without hesitation!

    Victoria2014-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely and beautifully well presented cottage with everything you need. The cottage overlooks a hill with good views but it is very easy to park and get to and Tiina sends you directions that are very good. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and must say this is one of the best

    Brian2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay and we would definitely go back. Wirksworth is an absolutely brilliant place - cinema, The Feathers, quirky Italian restaurant. Gear walking and really friendly people.

  • Wonderful weekend with my husband for our anniversary. Such a beautiful little cottage. Really enjoyed a wonderful walk straight from the house to The Bear Inn. Lots of lush green fields and fresh air. Tiina was very helpful and gave us thoughtful ideas of where to eat etc. Lovely stay.

    Laura2015-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in beautiful setting, perfect for country walks and visiting the Peaks. Really delightfully decorated cottage, with thoughtful inclusions and everything you could possibly need - and importantly shower was very good! About a 10/15min to the centre of Wirksworth, which has a fantastic French restaurant (that we visited twice!). (Hidden by Airbnb) maps gets you pretty much there - hard to see the church from written instructions, it's just the corner of the road with tons of huge trees. Thanks Tiina for a lovely stay!

  • We had such a lovely time staying here - great location, really clean and very comfortable! A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. Definitely recommend :)

Washing machine in separate building. The cottage is heated by gas central heating..There is a large well kept secure garden. Car parking on the premises, and free wifi.
  • Lovely cottage (open plan lounge kitchen downstairs, bedroom / kitchen upstairs) with cooking essentials and great gardens. Brilliant base for exploring the Peak District, c. 15mins to Bakewell, same again to Chatsworth house and c. 20mins to Matlock & Matlock Bath. John's a great host (had lots of good recommendations on activities) and was always quick to reply to emails.

    Sean2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • John’s little cottage was ideal for two, a cosy and well equipped place, good for a short stay. We enjoyed Johns beautiful garden in the evenings and John himself was a welcoming and helpful host.

  • Well what can I say ,what a gorgeous little cottage in a beautiful garden, john and Judith are fantastic host's, there is 2 local pubs in the village and are both very welcoming and friendly, will definitely be going back thank you john and Judith for everything many thanks Lou and Ken

    Kenneth2018-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at Johns cottage and enjoyed meeting him with all his knowledge of the local area. We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed walking around the village.

    Leanne2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a lovely comfortable and tidy place, set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. All was well thought out to make our stay restful, with no need to rush out to the village stores - everything from soap to salt was already provided. Our host John was very welcoming and gave us lots of ideas and directions for places to visit whether walking or driving. Our dog had a great time as well with a superb garden to roam in, and straight up into the hills for lovely long walks. The village of Winster itself is a very picturesque place with its lovely stone cottages, well stocked village shop, two great pubs and friendly folks all around. There are well marked footpaths all around for walking and hiking, with superb views from the hills, and if you're driving anywhere the towns of Bakewell and Buxton are nearby, with Bakewell market on a Monday. Matlock is also a nice town with plenty of good shops. M

  • John was an amazing host, really friendly and approachable. Lovely cottage and beautiful gardens. Amazing location. We look forward to staying again

  • Wonderful helpful and informative hosts, beautiful garden,

    Pam2018-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is located in the garden of the host, John. It is directly opposite their house but you get access to their garden which was useful with our dog. The cottage is small but has everything you need. I found it very useful that the host leaves washing up liquid, soap and toilet roll and also puts linen on the bed and supplies towels. There are many beautiful walks nearby. The Old Bowling green pub is a two minute walk and serves wonderful food (be sure to book in before you stay, it’s very popular). We found we probably wouldn’t want to stay much longer than two nights as the cottage is small and we found we didn’t really want to sit in the small downstairs area for long. It’s perfect for a stay where you will be out a lot but there’s not much space to sit and relax on an evening and the downstairs is a little cold. The cooking facilities are limited and the parking is very tight. For the price though it’s in a lovely location and had what we needed. The host is very friendly and accommodating with useful info of the local area.

Nestling in the tranquil Village of Brassington the Old Co-Op Barn is a great place to relax away from the bustle and hustle of life. Fall in love with the traditional conversion of this ancient limestone barn. Renovated to an exceptionally high standard but keeping all the character and features of the original building. Lovingly restored with unique upcycled and re-used materials to delight your imagination. For that romantic weekend the main bedroom with roll top bath is just perfect.
The Co-op Barn offers you the perfect bolt hole for your holiday getaway. A unique blend of traditional style with all the home comforts for a cozy break. Special attention to detail by us means you don’t have to worry! We want you to have a great time here so have made an extra special effort to make everything perfect for you. The Barn cottage garden has decking and seating positioned to enjoy the views across the valley and up into the hills and dales beyond. There is also a picnic table and chairs for alfresco dining surrounded by flower boarders, stone walls and fencing making the garden a safe place for dogs and children. We have also attached 2 x D rings for you to lock up your bikes at night down by the back door. So, whether it is sitting out in the early morning with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise across the valley or watching the sun go down after a lovely day out in the fells whatever the reason we hope you love it as much as we do. Come on in and take a look…
The Barn lies at the west end of the village of Brassington nestled in a small group of cottages possibly a hamlet of its own many years ago. Brassington was a limestone mining village hence the numerous quaint small cottages and barns scattered around the narrow lanes and byways across the village. Enjoy walking around the lanes and looking at the stone walls and cottage gardens mostly leading down to the 17th century Pub. The whole village was built on a south facing slope giving it sunshine the whole day through and protecting it from northerly weather up and over the hill behind it. There are lovely walks and bike trails up and over the surrounding hills just waiting to be explored
  • The name "postcard cottage" is program. It is a beautiful farm cottage with full comfort. Perfect central heating and a warming fireplace. A source of inspiration for interior designer and for lovers of the countryside. Around the corner is The Olde Gate Inn - an award-winning inn (best unspoiled pub) with tasteful menus at solid prices and an impressive selection of ales. Shopping in Ashbourne (10-15min) is a trip to the glories of the past, local Stilton shops and into the conveniences of a Waitrose and Sainsbury. Perfect location for walking in the Derby Dales or bike tours. Chatsworth is around the corner.

  • A unique place in all the world. John and his wife have really built something special here. Definitely a hidden gem. If you say here do yourself a favor and make use of the bath upstairs.

  • Had the most wonderful stay at the old co-op barn. The barn itself is located in a quiet village. Everything was so well thought out and the barn is furnished beautifully. We had the log burner going every night which was delightful. Lots of local walks to be had, the scenery is fantastic. Dogs enjoyed the secure garden! And we all enjoyed the olde gate Inn pub too! We will definitely be back, can't recommend this place and John and Vanessa enough - thank you for all the recommendations with places to visit etc.

    Kieran2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Oh my what a super eclectic and stylish place with eccentric touches of the upcycling variety. So many great ideas to look at, use and discuss. We all loved it for different reasons but this place would be awesome year round.

    Rebecca2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and stylish place, comfortable, close drive to many beautiful places to visit.

    Maria2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great, a real labour of love. Nicely converted. I ate at the local pub every night "the olde gate inne" which is 5 minutes walk and really is the cosiest pub as The Times says. Yet the community spirit was amazing! A great stay.

Self serve continental breakfast included with tea and coffee making facilities with toaster and fridge stocked with milk, cereals, yogurts, fruit, butter, bread, cheese etc.
Tilly's Cottage is set within a courtyard at the rear of our house and is up a flight of external stairs. On the ground floor is separate cottage called "Amelia's Cottage" which is also available via airbnb. The rear courtyard is available as a shared guest space with wooden seating and a large table
Tansley is a small village located 1 mile from Matlock. It has a village green/ play area, Village hall, Beautiful church and lots of historic buildings. Two pubs less than 5 minutes walk from the annex that serve great food and local beers. There is also a converted pub Indian restuarant. Bakewell and Chatsworth are both less than 10 miles away.
  • First of all, Stephen was a great host - extremely welcoming, allowed us to check in half an hour early and also lovely little touches were added such as milk in the fridge, fresh fruit, teas, coffees, crumpets and bread. The Annex was everything we had hoped for and more, it was extremely spacious and the bed was one of the best I had ever slept on. If you are looking for a lovely private room around the area of Matlock this is the one to go for. There were two pubs which Stephen suggested to us - we decided to go for the more old fashioned pub called the Tavern, which was within a 10 minute walk from the annex, and the food was sensational. Overall me and my girlfriend had an extremely pleasant stay and would certainly come back again. Can't recommend it highly enough - great host, beautiful annex and a location with a lovely little pub close to it.

  • Tillys cottage is an amazing sanctuary of peace, enlightenment away from the ‘busyness’ of everyday life. It’s a delightful home to spend quality time whilst not too far from lovely walks and places to eat! Stephen is very intuitive and always ready to help and answer questions.

We have throughly enjoyed our time in Derbyshire. The accommodation is a good base for cycling the Trails,we did the Monsal & Tissington Trails but will have to return for the High Peak Trail. Stephen was a very informative host & kindly allowed us to lock our bikes in his garage. We like quiet & TIlly's Cottage didn't disappoint. The Tansley Tavern,an easy walk of about 10 minutes, was good on both evening we visited.

Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Wendy's barn. The information provided was very accurate. This is a lovely and private place to go as a rural escape. The barn and surrounding area are picturesque and the location was perfect as a place to explore the Peak District from. I'd recommend Wendy's to anyone wanting to visit the Peak District.

  • The Hayloft was the perfect location for a long weekend away. Great location close to Matlock and very peaceful. Good for walking with lots of beautiful scenery nearby, and nice local pubs. The Hayloft itself was well laid out and warm even in the snow! Wendy and her family were fantastic hosts. We hope to be back soon!

  • My boyfriend and I spent two wonderful nights here in the face of Christmas, festive decorations topped off a gorgeous home with everything you could possibly need. Marsbar's welcome was greatly appreciated. We took a walk down to the three stags about a mile away for a game of pool - bring a torch in winter! Also had a nice walk around Matlock bath, Abraham heights and High tor. A very comfortable stay, we will definitely be returning, not least to see our feline friend again!

    Shannon2017-12-22T00:00:00Z

Es war sehr sauber und die Wohnung liegt in zentraler und wunderschöner Lage in Matlock.

  • We had a rejuvenating and relaxing stay! Beds were extra comfortable and the bath was perfect for a soak. We walked up to Lumsdale Falls which was pretty and an easy walk. Also loved the local tip of visiting Scarthin bookshop in Cromford. Sarah was lovely and would stay again if we came back to Matlock! The lovely Derwent river virtually outside the front door too. Plus so easy to walk everywhere and very peaceful surroundings.

Sarah is a great host, friendly and attentive, even going so far as to leave a welcome pack including a bottle of organic wine! I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a base to stay and explore in the lovely Derbyshire Dales.

  • Amazing location, the friendliest pets ever and just an all-round amazing place. Definitely the best value for money!

    Usman2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect wee place tucked away in a picturesque village in the Peak District, The Forge was a fantastic place for our weekend away! There were lots of yummy restaurants in the villages nearby (I can heartily recommend Firejacks in Matlock and Kosta's Fish and Chips in Matlock Bath), and with a Sainsbury's nearby all bases are covered. The apartment has a basic well stocked kitchen (no oven but good microwave) for breakfasts and preparing picnics. It was very comfortable - loved the couch! - and clean. Wendy was a lovely host and the resident cat and dogs were happy to come and say hello and have a cuddle :) Chatswood House and its farm shop are well worth a visit, and there are lots of wonderful walks nearby too! You will need a car to easily get around.

  • Really great cottage and just right for a couple sharing. We were a bit spoiled because everything was so new, but highly recommended. There are nice local walks and it is close to restaurants & pubs in Matlock. Brilliant supply of books in the cottage too.

  • We spent a few days at The Forge and we found everything pretty much spotless. Starting from the kitchen, there is everything you will ever need, the combi microwave is good enough for cooking meals, the coach is super comfy, we loved binging Netflix on a very rainy Sunday, and the shower is fantastic. The view from the glass door is to die for!

  • Exactly what we needed for our short stay in the Dales. The cottage was, perfect, clean and well appointed (the double bed was very comfortable). Stephen was very helpful and made us feel immediately welcome and gave some great advice on the local area. The village of Tansley is very nice with 2 pubs, we preferred the Tavern, the food was much better and had a more traditional pub atmosphere over the Gate Inn at the top of the village. Our children loved the goats in the garden and the family cat. All in all a great location for exploring the nearby area. Chatsworth House is a must do if you stay here and the villages of Matlock and Bakewell are also worth a visit.

    Christian2018-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my partner stayed here for two nights over Valentine's Day. We found the place to be immaculately presented and set within a lovely location. • Would highly recommend. Great location just 10 minutes drive to Matlock and 30 minutes to Bakewell, Chatsworth and Dovedale. Extremely quiet cottage to use as a base for the peaks and Derbyshire and perfect for switching off for a couple of days and nights. All the amenities you’d expect, the place is spotless and bed very comfy. Stephen was a great host who gave several local tips including things to do, places to visit, restaurants and nearby walks. Something for everyone. Plus, the goats are great!

  • Terrific location for a few days for a couple exploring the peak district! Quality of the accommodation was excellent. Stephen was an friendly and engaging host (as were the goats!). Proximity to Matlock and beyond made day trips a breeze. And the path into Matlock and back makes a great early morning trail run if you're keen enough.

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm.
The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests. Riber is a hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales, situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire.
Riber is a tiny hamlet, just two miles from the spa town of Matlock, 5 minutes by car from Cromford and Matlock Bath. Local attractions include Gullivers Kingdom, The Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth House (home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) and Haddon Hall. Bakewell and Ashbourne are both a short car journey away.

  • Enchanting! Riber Hall should be a well-kept secret, but that would not be fair on its owners, Alison and Nick, who made us feel very welcome in their beautiful home. The private suite is huge, with a big comfortable bed and tastefully decorated, in keeping with the age of the property. The house is historic, atmospheric and absolutely charming! If you like history, peace and quiet and stunning scenery, then this is the place to stay. The breakfast is delicious and includes locally sourced bacon and sausages. Alison and Nick are wonderful hosts and we would love to stay with them again.

Tower Cottage is a detached, 3 storey stone cottage for up to 4 guests in the heart of Wirksworth with its rich history and beautiful situation. The cottage has a double and a single bedroom (with pull out bed) and a shower room. There is a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with log burning stove. There is a patio garden, bike store and terraced gardens around the house with beautiful hill views. Sorry, no pets.
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is. The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks. Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues. Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea. So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in the area. There are fabulous walks from the door, cycle trails, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre. Every year at Spring Bank holiday, Wirksworth holds its annual Well Dressing ceremonies and carnival. In September the town celebrates the talents of local, national and international artists, along with performers of all descriptions, when it holds its prestigious annual Arts Festival. Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway and operates passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel rail cars. An eclectic range of events run throughout the year in Wirksworth. Many of these take place at the Town Hall but also at the Star Disc (a representation in granite of the Northern Constellation), on a hill in Stoney Wood, near the cottage. With easy access to attractions in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District, Wirksworth is also convenient for Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Buxton and Derby.

  • Such a cosy place to stay! We loved our mini break here. The cottage is warm, well equipped and very clean. Karen was in excellent communication and kindly left us milk, bread and a cake! So kind! We enjoyed the log fire, nearby walks and the lovely little town of Wirksworth. Would definitely recommend!

  • Wow what a place. Amazing location, within walking distance of Wirksworth centre but just tucked away to appreciate the old-worldliness of the village. We have never slept on such a comfortable bed. The place is decked out in beautiful decor with everything you would need for a short break away. Would highly recommend staying here and will hopefully book a return visit son

  • A lovely house in a very pretty small town, with options for food and drinks as well as some nice small shops. A really nice location for a walking holiday. The house itself is well equipped and very well presented. It was warm and cosy and had everything we needed. As a group of four friends we were a bit cosy, sharing the bedrooms, but it was fine because we know each other very well. The bedroom with two single beds is very small so you might want to bear that in mind if adults are sharing. It would be perfect for young children though. All in all a really nice long weekend and we'd recommend it!

Middleton-by-Wirksworth is an upland village lying approximately one mile of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, formerly known for its lead mines and high quality limestone quarries, including the underground quarry site at Middleton Mine. The Middleton Mine networks underground for approximately 25 miles with tunnels on three different levels running under Middleton Moor to the Hopton Wood. Middleton formed originally in the Saxon times as a small farming hamlet which settled around a very high spring. The former Cromford and High Peak Railway passes through the bottom of the village. The local quarries were linked to this line by a short branch spur, Killer's Branch, part of which now forms the track bed of the Steeple Grange Light Railway. This runs during the summer months at weekends and bank holidays. In the 1970s, the disused track bed of the Cromford and High Peak Railway and some surrounding land were purchased by the Derbyshire County Council and the Peak Park Planning Board, who then worked collaboratively to turn the former railway into the 17-mile High Peak Trail for walkers and cyclists. Middleton Top lies near the southern end of the trail, which starts at High Peak Junction. There is a car park and visitor centre at Middleton Top, where cycles may be hired. Middleton Top Engine House houses a preserved steam engine formerly used to haul trains up the 700-yard (640 m) long 1-in-8 (12.5%) gradient of Middleton Incline.
  • Helen was such a wonderful host! Her flat was cozy and beautiful and had everything we could have wanted. She gave us some wonderful local tips and even made us a delicious Victoria sponge! I would definitely stay again!!!

  • Communication with Helen was friendly and prompt at all times. We were given a warm welcome as well as some delicious cake. Helen's place has everything you might want for a break in the Peak District including comfy lounge area and a well-equipped kitchen. The location is very good for visits to Dovedale and Bakewell. The nearby village of Wirksworth has some good places to eat which Helen told us about and there is information in the house. Would definitely stay again.

  • My partner and I stayed here for a weekend whilst visiting the peak disctrict. The apartment is a lovely little place, part of a beautiful old building, but modern inside. Cosy and comfortable, with a fully functioning kitchen, great shower and comfy bed. Helen and Rod were fab hosts. They left us home made scones, jam and cream for our arrival, and milk in the fridge which was so lovely. Helen was very attentive and gave us tips for walking in the local area. We walked from the apartment to the moors and hired bikes which was a great day. I'd recommend Helen and Rods place, we couldn't fault it, and would love to stay again.

  • Had a lovely weekend staying at The Miners Rest. The apartment was homely and comfortable, with the extra benefit of the private outside decking area. Would definitely recommend for a weekend of walking and exploring the Peak District.

  • What a lovely couple of nights we had at The Miners Rest, Helen and Rod are so welcoming, especially there yummy cake they made for us. The cottage is a delight with everything you could wish for, in a lovely area with a pub just down the road, so would highly recommend. Thank you both for a very enjoyable stay. Doug and Brenda. Xxx

  • Helen's apartment made for a perfect AirBnb stay. Both she and Rob were easy and quick to communicate with, and the place was easy to find. The apartment was charming, clean, and came with everything you could want for a very comfortable stay. It is was perfectly located with beautiful walks and scenery nearby - you don't even need to jump in the car. The scones on arrival were a cherry on top moment. Tens across the board, and I'd highly recommend staying here to anybody.

  • What a great place. Clean, spacious, luxurious and with a wonderful host. There was nothing that Sharon wouldn't do to ensure my family had a brilliant get away. The cottage was beautiful and delivered on all aspects of my expectations. A beautiful part of the world and a wonderful place to come home to after the days of fun with the kids. Very highly recommended

  • Ticked every box… and then some!!! My 92 year (frail, pacemaker and lots of pills, prone to anxiety, etc..) mother in law holds strong opinions; getting her from the South of England to Derbyshire, for her son’s wedding, was akin to ‘sorting’ D Day: it required two cars!!. Sharon, empathically helped with each requirement. We arrived to a ‘Derbyshire cottage’, tick; ‘plush and comfortable’, tick; ‘Zimmer-wheelie’ accessible, tick; etc… the list, had seemed endless…. But we’d, evidently, found ‘The End’ (even a Whoopie!!!). Anxiety/Blood Pressure levels faded to insignificant: everybody delighted. And the then some’s:- Quiet country air, comfy beds, spotless, wonderful hill walks on doorstep; you arrive back after dark, and the lights are ‘On’ (for independent Zimmer-user). Everything was ‘thoughtfulness’. But there is always a ‘downside’: my wife loved the décor, pictures… No pressure?!!!. Thank you Andrew & Sharon.

Set on Matlock Bank in the centre of Matlock the cottage built in 1742 has a garden, patio, log burner in the lounge, full kitchen and bathroom with bath and separate shower, two bedrooms with super king size double beds (one of which can be split into two single beds upon request).
Homely warm cottage with lots of attention to detail - having worked in the hospitality business all my life I try and make sure the cottage is presented with everything I need and look for when travelling.
Matlock Bank at one time was a village in its own right so there are still a number of useful shops on the street.
  • Fantastic stay at this lovely cottage, very cosy and quirky rooms. Martin was more than helpful in the run up to the booking with lots of communication and local info. Can't recommend enough!

  • After a beautiful meal at The Peacock at Rowsley with our new in laws. We drove the short distance and found the cottage beyond our expectations. Sadly we were only staying one night but could have easily stayed longer. The little extra touches and thought to detail was a pleasant surprise. Thoroughly recommended.

  • Gate cottage was beautiful and made for a great countryside getaway! The cottage is very tastefully decorated and was spotlessly clean. It had everything we needed and more - including a bottle of wine and made up fire. The arrival and departure was made easy by being able to collect/deposit the key to suit us and although we didn't need to meet/contact Martin I have no doubt from the finishing touches and correspondence prior to our stay he wanted us to feel at home! We visited a restaurant recommended by Martin and it was great. Matlock is a lovely town with wonderful views and walks. Thanks again Martin and the two Carols for making us feel so welcome!

  • Such a beautiful, well maintained cottaged, really well located in the Southern Peak District, and an excellent jumping off point for exploring the area. Martin equipped us with lots of information prior to arrival and the cottage had everything that we needed for a weekend away.

  • Lovely cottage and village location within half hour drive of many Peak District towns and attractions :-)

    Richard2015-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Together with an other couple we spent fantastic days at this cottage. It is absolutely a lovely and cozy place, and we were impressed about the cleanliness of the cottage. It is lovingly furbished, has comfortable beds and two nice fireplaces. The village is lovely too, but not that easy to find free parking lots. Hilary was always very quick to respond. Unfortunately, we couldn't meet her. We would book the cottage anytime again. It is a perfect place to stay in the Peak District. Thank you a lot.

    Marcel2015-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage in a very nice and well-located village for exploring the Peak District. Hilary was a great host, very easy to engage with. We did find the parking situation (spaces in the fork of the road and on a hill) a bit tricky, although there was always a space for us there when we needed it.

    Jack2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely homely cottage on a steep hill with fantastic views. Well kitted out kitchen and living area which made us feel at ease. Really enjoyed staying here and visiting the local area. Local pubs served good food and were very friendly but weren't always open. Sometimes had to park a couple minutes walk away. There were great walks from the cottage so didn't need to use the car everyday. Would recommend to a friend.

    Abby2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was amazing experience to stay at Hilary's house. Such a beutiful house surrounded by beautiful view and everything in the house is working especially the water heater :) We can cook because the kitchen has complete set and it's also very close to the market. The house is also clean and has comfortable bed. Very recommended :) Thanks Ayu

  • We loved Hillary's cottage it was extremely well appointed and had all we needed for a great stay. The kitchen is small but very well laid out for easy use. The town of Winster is charming and it was such fun to explore the walking trails and the lovely little side streets, very picturesque.

A stylish stable conversion on the grounds of our home within the Derbyshire countryside only minutes from Chatsworth House by car. Living room, 1 bedroom (king size bed) plus kitchen and shower room. Garden area with chairs and table with great views above the cottage for your sole use. We provide tea and fresh coffee, milk and a breakfast of bread, yogurts and cereals included in the price. The area is between Matlock and Bakewell with local pubs. Pets welcome in the cottage.
A self-contained cottage in a hamlet. Near woodland and moorside walks in the heart of the countryside. Room for bikes outside and muddy walking boots inside. Room for breakfast in the kitchen or on the little patio. Feel free to have a picnic in the garden at the top of the hill where you see tables and chairs provided. Please note the fire is not a log burner.
This is a beautiful area typical of the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. We love living here because of the peace and calm yet nearness to so many places of historic interest, great walks, pubs and restaurants. Short walks around the area are on your doorstep and buses can take you to Bakewell in 15 minutes. Chatsworth House the home of The Duke of Devonshire with its sculpture gardens and restaurants is a ten minute drive and Haddon Hall is 7 minutes away. Longer walks over Beeley Moor behind the cottage will bring you over to Beeley Village and the pub there. You can walk along the Derwent Valley to Cauldwell's Mill cafe and blacksmith's at Rowsley and on to Chatsworth following the river if you prefer less hilly walks. A number of local pubs serve food- The Grouse and The Peacock at Rowsley or The Devonshire Arms at Beeley. Nearby is The Whitworth bar and restaurant less than 5 minutes to drive or a walk if you prefer. You can walk to local pub The Grouse at the bottom of the hill for a drink. There is a good curry house within 20 minutes walking distance or a couple of minutes drive along the A6 towards Bakewell. Matlock is less than 10 minutes away by car or bus with cocktail bars The Mad Hatters and The Monk bar as well as pubs The Hare, Mokka Bar (CAMRA) an others. Herd, Stones and Maazi serve good food, you may need to book. Bakewell is less than 10 minutes away by car or bus or you could walk along the river Wye. There are lots of great pubs and restaurants there with a wide range of food. Matlock Bath is 10 minutes away with its seaside fun style with cafes, pubs, fish and chip shops and amusement arcades. Just ask us for any help you might require with ideas or bookings.
  • A charming little cottage, great location, close to Chatsworth House, Bakewell and has some great local walks to lovely pubs and to really enjoy the Dales. Pauline was extremely accommodating, welcoming and friendly. Would definitely stay again.

  • A great air bnb find, ideal location as is very easy to drive into the more popular Bakewell etc, but away from the hustle and bustle. The little cottage had everything we needed and was only a short drive to a variety of places to eat. (Highly recommend dinner in the bar area of The Peacock at Rowsley!)

  • The cottage is just beautiful! The little touches just make it extra perfect when you arrive! Polly and Bernard are so helpful and great suggestions of places to visit and eat! It is in such a great area with shops and restaurants close by and yet feels secluded and peaceful, great place to escape and relax. The cottage is very clean and well presented. We will definitely be planning another visit! :)

Lovely to arrive and there be items ready for a cup of tea/coffe and some really delicious jams. Even supplied some gluten free bread which was just too lovely! A converted bijou holiday cottage, ideal for a couple. It's small but perfectly formed! On the edge of this lovely town nestled in the Derbyshire hills. Stunning walks, bike rides, exploring or just meandering with coffee stops. Car not essential. Talk to us if you want to come car-less.
If you like good design, a contemporary conversion that is cosy and welcoming overlooking beautiful countryside within walking distance of a town with pubs, restaurants and people with a smile, then you will love The Sidings. We converted The Sidings next to our home and we hope you will be as pleased as we are with the deceptive spaciousness that gives you a downstairs with a lounge area and kitchen and a cosy wood burning stove and an upstairs with a double bedroom and en suite shower, washbasin and toilet as well as a heated towel rail. There are also two electric heaters if you need a bit of instant heat. The kitchen has a fridge with a freezer compartment and there is a full fan oven and three burner induction hob as well as a microwave. It is a compact little place, so do come prepared for a bijou holiday home not a mansion! Ideally, it’s for a couple but there is a double bed futon for emergency flexible sleeping arrangements but it does restrict your space downstairs and is heavy to manoeuvre so we don't recommend it. Just a word of warning, there is restricted access to the far side of the comfy double bed upstairs in the eaves and you do have to duck your head to get in and out on that side. We think we’ve thought of everything you need in our little hideaway, but do let us know if there’s something we’ve forgotten and we’ll do our best to provide it for you. We know how annoying it is to have to pack absolutely everything for a few days away, so we will provide a hair dryer, shampoo and conditioner, cooking oil and herbs and things like that. We’ll send you a full list when you book so you can minimise that packing. Outside, there is a seating area where you can sit and enjoy the peace of this tucked away corner of Wirksworth. Occasionally, you may spot the heritage railway that runs behind our house. Don’t worry, it’s charming and not intrusive and you could take a trip on it yourself from the town! We will be on hand to help you find your way round the area and we have lots of ideas for you to spend your time with us.
Wirksworth itself is known as “Quirksworth” and be warned, you may, like so many of us, fall in love with it. We always say Wirksworth is not a place to just live, it is a vocation! It is a very special small town that has a reputation for being a creative environment that has lured artists, designers and media people, but it also has a real heart, built during its years as a lead mining town. If you come in September, you can experience the fabulous Wirksworth Festival. In June, we have Open Gardens. Actually, there's something on most weekends! You can wander around the little ginnels that make up the Puzzle Gardens with their charming houses, walk up to the Stardisc with spectacular views, visit the 700 year old Tuesday market or the monthly farmers’ market (1st Sat in the month). You can visit the Heritage Centre, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. You can walk the fabulous paths around the surrounding hills from your doorstep or you can wander into town to visit the pubs, restaurants and cafes- we send you more info on places to go when you book. There’s also a small community swimming pool and a leisure centre with a climbing wall. Further afield, you can spend a day at Bakewell, Alton Towers, Kedleston, Haddon Hall or Chatsworth or visit Scarthin’s Books, an old fashioned, amazing treasure trove of a bookshop. wander the lovely streets of Ashbourne, go up the cable car to Abraham Heights to see breathtaking views and do water sports at Carsington Reservoir…all within a short drive of Wirksworth. One thing is for sure, you will hear “Hello me duck” from every passing stranger who will smile and make you feel at home. Or, you can just sit in the window seat in the Sidings and gaze out on the Gilkin hills or curl up with a good book on the comfy futon, or watch a film cuddled up in front of the wood burning stove. You decide, it’s your holiday!
  • We had a lovely stay here and found The Sidings to be very clean, comfortable and well designed. Shirley was an excellent host and provided us with lots of useful information on local walks and activities. The Sidings is well located a short walk away from lots of pubs and restaurants and very easy to get to. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone else.

    Ben2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable cottage, perfect for two. Handily situated five minutes walk from a lovely town centre with restaurants and pubs. The cottage was easy to find but Shirley was happy to help with transport from the nearest bus or train station, an added bonus! Both hosts gave us helpful hints on local events and attractions. As usual we ran out of time to do all we had planned so a return visit is a must!

    Caroline2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • brilliant communication and a fantastic host, Shirley gives you loads of tips of where to eat and visit. We loved Wirksworth, and would definetely recommend the Hope and Anchor, but would avoid the Mercia as it was shocking service. The sidings are clean and tidy, very well equipped. We loved being able to see the traditional train but don't worry it's not imposing. We loved the small touches of milk and bread on arrival. We are already looking at planning our return visit we enjoyed it so much. Such a relaxing stay.

    Lauren2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space in a lovely quaint village, within walking distance of the village as well as multiple lovely walks catering for all levels, as well as being a great spot for cyclists and runners.

    Taylor2018-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the sidings. It was very clean and cosy with all the facilities you would need for a short break away. The log burning stove was particularly welcome after a day out walking. Great location for some good walks. Our hosts made us very welcome and we were greeted with fresh bread and milk which was a lovely touch. It was also great value for money compared to similar listings in the area. Highly recommended!

    Anna2015-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • The Sidings is a small but perfectly formed hideout. It's incredibly cosy with its wood burning stove and the location was perfect, just a short walk in to Wirksworth. It's surrounded by beautiful walks. Make sure you visit the star disc at night! What really made our stay lovely were the little touches. The accomodation is clean and contemporary and Shirley and Kevin provided everything that we could have needed. We hope to return soon.

    Will2017-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • We made a mess of our booking and Shirley's flexibility and helpfulness was very much appreciated. The place was what we expected and delivered everything we asked for. It's just a small place for a couple but it did the job well.

    Tom2016-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The sidings was spacious and exceeded all expectations. The location is very close to the town centre which has a mini supermarket, cafes and various resturants and pubs. Although we did not meet Shirely and Kevin they were more than helpful in checking we were ok. They were amazing hosts and very easy to get hold of if we needed them. We can't wait to return for another break!!

Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of The Derbyshire Peak District, an ideal location for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. The cottage, originally a quarryman's dwelling, has been fully refurbished and is maintained to a high standard. The accommodation: double and single bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and TV lounge. Outside is a decked sitting area. Guests also have use of a croquet lawn, boules court and parking in the garden of Babington House next door.
  • I have no hesitations in recommending this beautiful cottage. We were there for a few days and it was perfect. The weather was pretty chilly and the cottage was lovely and cosy to come back to. Ann was lovely and made us feel very welcome. Wirksworth is a nice, friendly town. Thank you Anne we had a great relaxing break. Our first visit to the Peak District was great and this was due to Babington Cottage.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Wirksworth and loved being able to stay in such a cosy space in the snow! The views out of the kitchen and bedroom windows are spectacular and there are lots of sweet spaces to relax in. Wirksworth itself has some great shops - we recommend the bakery and butcher's! There are also some really beautiful walks close by. The only difficult thing is driving up the hill to park your car!

  • Lovely cottage close to Wirksworth center. What was once a miners' cottage is now a lovely place to stay in the Peak District, with Wirksworth on the door step and Cromford, Matlock and Matlock Bath a short drive away. The cottage was spotless and comfortable, the hosts Anne and David were friendly and helpful. All in all a lovely stay, and one we hope to repeat

  • Beautiful location! The skylight was a nice touch to look out over wirksworth. Lovely air b&b with great amenities and would definitely stay again. Would recommend the drive to pooles caves and national park (especially in the snow!)

  • We had a most wonderful time at beautiful Babington Cottage. Everything was perfect, comfortable beds, lovely hot showers, fluffy towels and views you only see on chocolate boxes. Our hosts were warm and welcoming. Top marks.

  • We had a fantastic stay - Anne and David were so friendly and hospitable. The cottage is perfectly sized, very well equipped and uses the space available exceptionally well; it really felt like a home from home. We enjoyed every minute we were there. There are plenty of places to visit without needing a car too, we highly recommend walking to the top of the hill and exploring the available walks, The Northern Light Cinema is but a stroll away and well worth catching a film in!

  • Anne was a really great friendly host, responses were quick and everything was flexible and accommodating. The house itself was wonderful, great value for money. Located in one of the nicest areas of Wirksworth, clean and cosy without being space restricted. Couldn’t have asked for more. Have already recommended this to relatives!

This cottage was in a gorgeous place with beautiful distant views on one side and lush garden scenery on the other. Everything inside seemed brand new and there was plenty of space left for our belongings and our shopping. Very comfortable beds and only birdsong to disturb the quiet of the night and early morning. Heather and Mike are wonderful hosts - very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to provide information on where to go and how to get to places. Interesting books on the shelves - on another occasion I will plan more time to read some of them. I shall be returning.
