  • What an amazing place to end our week in Oregon! Fantastic house. Fantastic view.Charming host. Great bed and a view from it as well. Comfy bedding and luscious towels. Very easy access to downtown and restaurants. Best of both worlds. Close to action or far from it. Highly recommend this experience.

  • Lance was super easy to communicate with, was really easy going and incredibly friendly! We only got to stay the one night but it was worth it! The views and company were what made our trip so memorable and amazing. The tree house is still close to the city centre that you feel like you're up and out of the way from the night life but can reach down town in less than 15 minutes if you wanted to. Great location, and great experience. And the french press coffee in the morning was delightful!

    Paige2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is a very unique place to stay, and has great views of downtown Portland. Lance is a very nice host and communicates well.

  • This is one of the most amazing houses I have ever visited -- an architectural marvel. The view of Portland that greets you when you wake up is breathtaking. Lance is a terrific guy and made sure we had a great stay. A very special place and highly recommended.

  • Lance is an excellent host! He truly made the place feel like home. We had a brand new feel toward Portland after talking with him. The view from his place was spectacular! Truly a gem!

    Iris2017-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • The view of the city is spectacular. Falling asleep and waking up to the view of Portland was the best!

    Melissa2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Lance's. Beyond expectations and we would book again in a second!

    Erik2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first airbnb, so we were a bit nervous. The hosts, Lance and his adorable cat, made us feel right at home. Bukey is a high energy Devon Rex, very social. Lance made us coffee in the morning. The views honestly can't be beat in this architectural gem. The neighborhood is very quiet, at the edge of a large park.

Unique hand built cob cottage next to lg. pond w water feature. Lg. fenced and gated yard. Gentle, curving space-made from sand, straw, water and earth . Featured in multiple international publications. The floor is also earthen clay with added radiant heat. Beautiful natural light. It's truly a magical place.
It's a curvilinear earthen structure hand sculpted from water, sand, straw, and clay earth. It features a radial roof with a central pagoda-like skylight. When building the Cob, we used reclaimed and natural materials when ever possible. The insulation in the ceiling is made from pulverized reclaimed blue jeans and the floor is made from the same earthen clay. It has a Dutch door, so you can open the top part for additional ventilation. It also has air conditioning available in the warmer months and a radiant heat floor. The bed is a very comfortable double with a memory foam mattress topper. The bathroom for the cottage is in the main house, about 40 steps to the back door. Inside you’ll find a large sitting room and full kitchen as well as your bath with claw foot tub and shower. These spaces are shared with 2 Airbnb rooms in the house. If you find the bath busy, our full bath is available upstairs on the second floor.
We are located in a sweet older neighborhood in inner SE Portland, built around the turn of the century. The neighborhood is extremely walkable/bikeable, and just two blocks from one of Portland's great restaurant rows, filled with unique locally owned restaurants, coffeehouses, bars, food carts, pot shops, ice cream vendors, pizza joints, clothing retailers, yoga studios and yes, even an old-school hardware store.
  • This place is great! Amazing place to stay in. We would love to experience the cob cottage in nicer weather. The location was perfect, close to some really great food (Pok Pok & Roman Candle to name a few) and Division street seems like the place to be! Jack and Cris were very accommodating and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a uniquely enjoyable stay in Portland!

    Joshua2017-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely! Quite street and area but close to a Main Street with los of shops and great restaurants! Hosts were very responsive and space was very welcoming!

    Yasmin2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location is perfect! The space is unique and comfortable. If we are ever in Portland again, we'll be sure to see if Chris and Jack have space for us,

    Kate2017-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! Very cool spot in a great neighborhood. Easy check in and check out and on street parking was a breeze.

    Michelle2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The earthen cob is truly the most cozy room I've ever stayed in. The floor was heated ..and clean. It smelled good in there. The pond just outside our door had a waterfall. There were cute cats roaming around. The bathroom was very comfortable and nicely decorated. Also, the mirror in the bathroom is very kind! ...meaning great lighting! ..Even if it's not realistic (haha). The location is great for awesome restaurants. Easy parking on the street. Was really sad to leave. Hope to be back. Thanks for the hospitality Chris & Jack!

    Amy2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Near many fantastic restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.

    Elise2018-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived just as Jack and Cris got home so we got to meet them right away. They were so gracious and wonderful, showed us around and instantly we felt at home. They built the amazing cob hut themselves and it was cozy and clean and it was awesome to fall asleep underneath a skylight that we could see the stars. They gave us numerous suggestions of things to do and places to go. I knew they owned a coffee shop so I inquired, and they have two shops (Floyd's Coffee), one of which we went to twice because the breakfast burrito is delicious and so is the coffee and chai lattes...The property is an oasis! A seriously amazing BEAUTIFUL and relaxing place to stay. They have put alot of love and care into their place and it shows. The neighborhood is just fantastic with so many cute homes and its very close to a main road that has a bunch of yummy restaurants and ice cream (salt and straw) and food trucks. It's also very quite in the neighbourhood they live and I loved just walking around. I truly never wanted to leave and I will most definitely go back. I miss it already. This was my first time in Portland and I think staying here reinforced my love of it. Thank you Jack and Cris! I will be seeing you again! Xo

    Jessica2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jack and Cris's Earthen Cob Cottage is a unique, beautiful, zen place to stay (photo's can't do it justice) and close to all the fun stuff. They were great hosts- good communication, everything clean and well taken care of.

This wonderful, private little gem is just a few easy walking blocks from plentiful drinking, dining, dispensing, yoga & coffee spots. You will be one block from Woodlawn Park, 2 blocks from a bus and a 5 minute drive from the Alberta Shopping and Arts District. It's all so comfortably close by, but not close enough to disturb your relaxing, sweet retreat. Come have it all while living small in this tiny, artsy home away from home!
This space was built as a Model T Garage in 1926 behind a 1915 bungalow but it has had a face lift and has taken on a new life as a cozy, warm freestanding studio made mostly from reclaimed materials. A "tiny house" if you will, sweetly positioned between fruit trees and a garden sitting area. The sleeping loft comfortably sleeps two and there is a futon below the loft where one can enjoy a book while the other naps above. Occasionally you will hear the trains in the distance which adds a touch of nostalgia and you get to wake to the relaxing clucking and cooing of the neighborhood hens as this area has a nice spattering of urban farms and lots of mature trees. For your comfort, this as a "pet dander free" space. No pets, thanks. The table pictured here has been replaced with a "garden shed" counter that houses a small, removable basin sink. There is also a rustic, rough hewn armoire to hang clothes and tuck away your backpacks. The little kitchenette corner is stocked with utensils, a two burner cooktop, a mini fridge, a microwave, coffee and a coffee press. The studio's setup is more akin to a cabin, and as many cabins go, there is no bathroom. You will be given a key to the main house so please feel comfortable enough to come in and use the facilities. By the way, it is insulated, well heated, and stocked with plenty of blankets so it is a wonderful, warm hideaway in the fall and winter months as well. Yep, snuggly wifi too. The yard is plentiful with flowers and fruit bearing trees (figs and delicious yellow plums) in the summertime, as well as an array of veggies in the gardens where you can sit amongst the trees and regroup after a hard day at Powells Books. It's within a 5 minute walk from the heart of Woodlawn which has some fantastic spots to shop, drink, dance, and dine: -Firehouse Restaurant, somewhat romantic with good service -Woodlawn Coffee House, for plenty of people watching -Breakside Brewery, to grab a bite and catch up on the game -Grand Army Tavern, have some pork with your...pork : ) -Good Neighbor Pizza, laid back & late night too -P's & Q's Market serves yummy meals and a few grocery items -The Village Ballroom, for Square Dance and Special events -Uptown Cycles, sales and repairs -Portland Girl, spa day anyone? -Greener Grasses, well-rated dispensary -Koken Market, for almost any beer you want, snacks -Café Eleven, art, coffee, lunch & some pastries -Oregon Public House, the nation's 1st nonprofit pub -The Highwater Mark, rock pub with pool & hip hop on last Fridays -Tamale Boy, authentic & delicious with lots of outside seating -Bassato Gelato, 12 rotating flavors+bagels in the morning -HighWheel Mead, open Thurs-Sunday -(Seasonally) Woodlawn Farmer's Market at Woodlawn Triangle, Sat. 10-2 Downtown is a 15 minute drive. The Alberta Arts District is also just minutes away so you can hop on a bike and be right in the middle of the jam-packed Last Thursday Art Walk or make a day of it with shopping, dinner and some delicious ice cream from the infamous Salt & Straw. Then come "home" to your quieter retreat where you can just relax and lay in the hammock.....ahhhh. And as the area is well surrounded by beautiful, mature trees, you may decide to enjoy dinner in the love seat swing under the pergola and watch the evening sky. It is a wonderful theatre for watching small bats do their sky routine in the distance. Flying in? This spot is only 10 minutes from the airport. And while in Portland, you may want some wheels! Well, this location is very close to Zipcars and you can sign up with them or Car2go on their sites in advance of your stay. Check out Turo or Getaround to grab a vehicle to tool But if you want to explore the city on two wheels, Everybody Bike Rentals or Ebikes ( electric bike rentals) are the spots to hit first (10 min. by bus). They provide helmets and locks too! ***If you don't see the dates available on the calendar that you had hoped for or if you are traveling with more than two people, please check out my other listing (#95313) which is also a private studio at the same location. It is larger and complete with a private entry and bathroom. Just ask me! Parking is close and the livin' is pretty easy. So please get that profile completed, then contact me and come kick up your heels and stay a while! Oh! P.S. Please read the description, house rules and post a pic of you in your profile beforehand just so that everyone is on the same page. Much appreciated. Cheers!
  • Andree is so welcoming, intelligent and interesting. The carriage house allows for a really independent stay, comings and goings that dont disturb. With the abundant plum tree in the yard and the ability to cook ones own food its really the best possible place to stay. I found transportation very easy and spent many hrs just strolling through the neighborhood. I could not recommend it more and if I return to portland this will be my first choice.

    Katy2013-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cute place to stay! It’s not actually a tiny house... it’s an old garage converted into a place to stay. It’s cute and nice, but not actually a tiny house if that’s what you’re looking for! Otherwise, great!

    Jasmin2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful find in Portland. Not only is it clean and comfortable but it is in a great neighborhood and Andrée is a wonderful host. I was in a crunch and needed a place to stay and she helped me out. I would stay again.

    Laura2014-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Andrée was great! Very knowledgable about local spots to visit including restaurants and funky spaces. And the accommodations are VERY Portland :)

    Ashley2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Host was great, space was great, 15 minute drive from downtown!

    Nino2018-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed the stay here!

    Riho2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Andrée is awesome! Very chatty and friendly. The room is in a good location and just like it looks in the pictures; we were able to bile to everything we wanted to see in portland. People in the neighborhood were very nice - I'm from California and I was surprised how nice people in the area were. Would stay here again, thanks Andrée!

    Scott2014-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed spent a day at Andrée's cosy barn. She was very warm, friendly and hospitable The lack of an attached bathroom might deter some people. I would recommend this place to friends!

With lots of space and light, this studio has everything that makes a house feel like a home: a fireplace, a full kitchen, a queen bed, oak floors, handmade furniture, cable tv including HBO, and a private entrance.
This studio is a welcoming space in the center of an historic neighborhood that offers a unique perspective on the city of Portland. Ask me for in-depth info on where to go and what to see in the Irvington neighborhood, the Alberta Arts District, and other parts of Northeast Portland! Over the years, I’ve gotten to know quite a few incredible places to eat, drink, shop, and explore here. Located at the hub of some of Portland’s most interesting neighborhoods, this studio places the whole city at your fingertips. But adventure can be tiring, and the studio offers ample opportunity to put your feet up. Portland can get nippy at night, and a real wood fireplace, stocked with firewood from locally harvested and dried urban hardwood trees, is the perfect way to warm up and feel at home. The apartment has high ceilings and a great fireplace; it’s minimally decorated but has all the important things: a queen bed, a couch with a coffee table, a small desk, a dresser and extra shelves, and a kitchen table. The kitchen comes fully stocked with the essentials for cooking a real meal, and the bathroom always has towels, soap and shampoo. The space is located on the first floor of a large 1910 home, which was converted to an eight-plex in the 1940s to adapt to the demands of WWII. I have lived in Irvington for 14 years and Portland for 25, and this house is one of the most unique that I’ve seen.
The Irvington neighborhood, now only a ten minute bike ride from downtown, was once a trolley-car suburb to the just-fully-developed West side. Designated a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, Irvington is filled with early 20th century homes that have been preserved in their original states. Irvington has become a livable hub of Northeast Portland as a whole, with shops and restaurants of all kinds, within walking distance, surrounding the neighborhood. Irvington proper boasts more than a few community and culinary destinations of its own.
  • Nice neighborhood

    Erica2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • I LOVED this place! It's bright and roomy with it's own side entrance, full of homey, vintage charm, and stocked with everything you might need for an extended stay. The bed is really comfortable and I can't quite describe how peaceful it is to sleep on this quiet, tree-lined street with the patter of rain coming down. This really was a perfect spot for exploring Portland for five weeks. Jason was a terrific host; helpful, accommodating, and generous with recommendations to nearby shops, restaurants, etc. The location can't be beat, with a coffee shop around the corner, along with a yoga-wellness center, Whole Foods not more than a ten minute walk away, and a park. Though this isn't downtown, you can be there in five minutes by car. I appreciate having had the experience of living in a real neighborhood and community in this city that I perhaps would not have gotten had I stayed in a more well-traveled area. This big beautiful studio was as comfortable as an old favorite sweater. I look forward to calling it home again.

    Thomas2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Although we didn't meet, Jason was responsive and answered all of my questions. Our stay in his studio was short but pleasant, especially after we got a fire going in the fireplace with the provided firewood and matches. Parking was a cinch and the location is great.

    David2014-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute studio! And the location was so great and central. Jason made it all super convenient and easy for us.

    rebecca2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • great location and good place to stay in the area. beautiful neighborhood and nice people all around.

    Mackey2016-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • The place was clean and comfortable & in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Jason was an excellent host who was always available. I would stay here again.

    Jesi2015-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute apartment. We had everything we needed. Our visit was in the winter and we had to start a fire to get the room warm, but that was part of the fun!

    Natalie2015-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jason was accommodating and very responsive to SMS and AirBnb messages. The apartment is very typical of older Portland apartments and reminds me of some that I lived in once upon a time. The neighborhood has excellent bus service to the rest of the city, is pleasant to walk through and is full of trees. A few blocks north (within walking distance) is a Whole Foods grocery store and a nice coffee shop.

Laurelhurst is an historic old Portland neighborhood with beautiful homes, street trees and a huge park a few blocks away designed by the Olmsted's who designed Central Park in NYC. You will see how homes in Laurelhurst are each very different and unique from craftsmen with large porches to smaller bungalows with beautiful gardens.

    Guenter2015-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • The basement apartment was very cozy. We loved the retro decorations.

    Audrey2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and Bob greeted us with a very sincere and cordial reception! After a long journey to their gorgeous home, they made us feel very welcomed. There was even a treat, a bowl of fresh fruit, on the table when we arrived. The description of the place really doesn't do it justice. The accommodations are wonderful! The bed is so comfy. The kitchen is darling and has everything you need, even a popcorn popper. The shower is perfect after a long day of hiking around Portland. The gardens are so beautiful and peaceful. The location was perfect for us visiting our son who lived close by, but even if someone was just visiting Portland, the place is situated in a lovely neighborhood that is very close to the many sites of Portland. Sue and Bob provided a folder filled with good information about where to eat, shop, visit and how to get around the city. We had a terrific experience, and wish we could of spent more time with Sue and Bob.

    CLARK2014-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time staying at Bob and Sue's home. Sue graciously gave us a tour of the main house plus the rich history. The apartment was very private and so much more than we hoped for, so charming! Our last morning, she set an outdoor garden table for us so we could provide breakfast for my daughter and her boyfriend. We are so grateful for this lovely morning.

    Pat2015-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • The property is in an awesome location if you don't mind a brisk walk or driving a short distance. Laurelhurst Park is a stones throw away which is great for running or simply strolling. The room is a basement space which for the price seems a bit off. I would recommend this wonderful space to anyone visiting portland for a brief period.

    Barry2015-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house. Bob and Sue were super friendly and gave a tour of this historic brick house.... The house was built in 1923 by a brick company to showcase its selection of 25 types of bricks and brick patterns. Many of these styles can be seen on the house, today.....

    Mike2017-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great neighborhood. Intimate basement apartment with access to garden space. Very extensive kitchen and cooking for such a small unit. Friendly hosts.

    Carole2018-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully decorated and comfortable living space. Really felt like a home away from home, and Bob and Sue were wonderful hosts. From the little things like free coffee, cookies and wine, to giving us a lift to the train station after our stay!

Everything you need is here at our brand new guesthouse loft: a luxurious, lofted queen bedroom; high ceilings with floods of natural light, a modern kitchen, full bath with heated tile, comfy sleeper sofa for extra guests, and Stumptown Coffee with organic cream. The loft rests at the back of the property, one block from bustling Division St, and short blocks from restaurants, coffeeshops, & the Woodsman Tavern, named “One of America’s Best Bars,” by Esquire Magazine.
The loft is located in our backyard in Southeast Portland. While we are only steps away if you need us, the space is very private. In fact, guests report that they forget they are in the middle of the city when they stay in our space! We live in a desirable and fun neighborhood, and parking can be tight! Guests usually find parking within a block of our house. At night or during busy times of the day, parking can be found within two short blocks. Guests may feel free to use our driveway for loading/unloading. We do not have a TV in the guesthouse, but offer excellent wifi access.
Our neighborhood has everything you will need, mostly within a five-minute walk! And if you want to visit a different part of the city, there is convenient public transportation around the corner. Check out excellent coffeeshops blocks away (Good Coffee and Stumptown), delicious and intimate restaurants (Bete Lukas, Mi Mero Mole, The Woodsman), or walk up to Mt. Tabor Park. If you're into yoga, there's an awesome space (Yoga Union) around the corner.
  • this place. this town. the vibe. all highly recommended! wonderful accommodations, very clean, unique loft space. Loved every second of my stay here! I cannot wait to come (Website hidden by Airbnb) the summer of course :) thanks again!!

    Stephanie2017-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at Laurel and Brian's place. It was immaculately clean with an inspiring contemporary aesthetic, very light and bright with treetop views. Both hosts are highly communicative and responsive--we genuinely felt our comfort was a priority for them. The guest house provides complete privacy from the host's house although it was nice to be able to say hello occasionally. The neighborhood was fun to explore on foot with lots of amenities to offer. Public transportation is available, although we had a relative's car available much of the time when we need to see other areas of Portland. I would be most happy to return here someday!

    Francine2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Laurel and Brian's space was perfect for our 4-day trip to Portland. It's in a great location; close to shops, restaurants, bars, and also a walkable distance to Mt. Tabor. Their guesthouse is spacious, very comfortable, brightly-lit with tons of natural light, and the heated bathroom floor was a definite luxury. Laurel and Brian were very communicative before, and during our stay; they kindly let us drop off our bags way before check-in time, and asked if we needed anything halfway through our trip. Oh, and the Stumptown coffee they provided was a super bonus too. We would definitely stay with them again, and we highly recommend Laurel and Brian's guesthouse.

    Josephine2017-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A rare jewel in a richly dense and interesting urban neighborhood, Laurel & Brian's guest house is airy, bright, new, tastefully appointed, and safe. On-street parking was reasonable, and info provided on local amenities was thorough and current. Clearly, Laurel & Brian are thoughtful and conscientious hosts. While we didn't have a chance to meet them, we felt their caring presence throughout our stay. Thanks so much!

    Irene2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Take note of the local tips Laurel and Brian send, they are all spot on. Especially the croissants around the corner, we agree - the BEST we have had.

    Sarah2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely and the neighborhood is great. I would highly recommend.

    Douglas2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure staying at Laurel and Brian's place. The area was quiet but had many lovely coffee shops and restaurants to enjoy. The space itself was super clean, just as it appears in photos. Check in and out were super straight forward and the bed was SUPER comfy. All communication with Laurel and Brian was great and it was a lovely neighbourhood (make sure you go to Good Coffee!) Getting downtown was about 20-30 minutes with transit but totally doable and nice to be able to come "home" to a quiet space after long days of seeing Portland. I highly recommend staying here and will hopefully again in the future!

  • I booked this for my parents and brother to stay while they visited me in Portland. It is a fantastic location - so many great restaurants and shops in walking distance. It's one of my favorite Portland neighborhoods. The space is modern, clean, and quiet, and Laurel and Brian made it very comfortable. Check in was easy and they were quick to respond to any questions. The local coffee and snacks were nice touches. My family said they would stay there again, and I would recommend to anyone!

Where Bali meets Portland. Come relax in this newly, beautifully designed, private mixed use accommodation. Just five short blocks from Portland's hip N Williams district. A rooftop deck.
I have a total of five rooms, each listed separately in this unique mixed-use building where I also live and work. You will enter just past the Ned Ludd front patio via a private, secure, gated entrance off of MLK at NE Failing street and follow the stairway up to the second level. This is the larger of the three rooms. Each room is newly refurbished and furnished with beautiful, responsibly sourced tropical salvage out of Indonesia and locally re-purposed wood/trim doors and windows. Your private room comes with a window, a wall-mounted flatscreen t.v., small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, free wi-fi an armoire, an ornate sink carved out of stone, down pillows, down comforters, a king-sized posturepedic mattress and zen colored walls that might just make you think you are in... Bali?
NEPO (aka NE Portland) is hip and cool and like so many hip Portland neighborhoods–it is ever-expanding and reinventing itself. New restaurants, shops, boutiques and businesses are popping up all over. Whether you are looking for a place to lay your head for the night while you get out and explore during the day, or you are just looking for a place you can hole up and relax, we've got you covered. • Gute Unterkunft: hilfsbereiter Vermieter, interessante Umgebung, schönes Restaurant und tolles Café vor der Haustür, Fahrradleihmöglichkeit - alles bestens.

  • This place is so cute! The bed was so comfortable. My favorite part was the back deck for sure. It was adorable.

    Elena2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Timothy's place was in a new part of town to explore in Portland and it left such an impression on myself and my husband. A great neighborhood for foodies...try it all!! His place was super comfortable and quiet and I would definitely stay here again.

    Heather2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay at Timothy's place. The room itself was very clean and comfortable and the location is fantastic. Communication with Timothy was great.

    Kevin2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room and facilities were as the host described. The place was setup as b&b (sans breakfast) rather than a home/apartment, which was perfectly fine by me. Everything was clean, functioning, and up-to-date; great place to stay overall. The room itself was quite good: nice bed, in-room fridge, tv. Check-in and checkout were really easy, as you just show up, type a key code in the private entrance, and the key was in the room’s lock.

    Robert2015-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The room was great - clean and looked just as it does in the pictures. There were fresh towels and even some water in the mini fridge for me and my sister. The bathroom and shower were also clean and provided the amenities Tim said would be available. We wished we could have stayed in Portland a little longer so that we could have enjoyed the beautiful rooftop deck. It was a comfortable stay overall. Our only issue was that we did not receive an itinerary from Tim prior to our arrival. The entrance to the building was a little obscure, and Tim was not home when we arrived. So check-in took longer than we hoped. But once we were settled, everything went well.

    Pam2015-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • The room was very spacious and lovely with the huge bed and plants, and the deck was also such a nice touch. The directions provided were Timothy were very easy to follow, and he replied incredibly promptly with queries which was very reassuring. Area was great, a nice walk to Alberta and bus lines were just outside. I would definitely recommend this for a fuss-free, reliable and comfortable experience.

    Erica2016-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great room in accessible area, thanks Timothy for your hospitality!

In the heart of Portland's NW 23rd District, our place is nestled close to some of Portland's finest shops & cafes: Salt & Straw, Barista, and Fireside to name a few. The apartment has become a "destination" in itself due to the amazing natural light & Scandinavian interior design - even garnering its own hashtag on Instagram (#theaptupstairs).
"The Apartment Upstairs" is perfect for couples, urban adventurers, and creative travelers. Private bedroom outfitted with luxury Portuguese linen, plush Turkish cotton towels, waffle knit robes & slippers, & alpaca wool throws from our friends over at Parachute Home. • Super!! Benjamin was so nice, and the location was near one of the HOT spot in Portland. Very cozy, clean, and kind. I stayed very compatible. Portland was given me good impression. :) Thanks you, Benjamin. And, if you want to visit to Portland, I suggest staying Benjamin's airbnb. Cheers.

  • If I could give this more than 5 stars for location I would. Walking distance to great restaurants, shops, parks, and public transportation. Wonderful space and friendly and helpful hosts! Will stay here again when visiting Portland!

    Elizabeth2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Apt Upstairs was great. They styling of the apartment was fantastic, super clean and crisp. The location of the house was also fantastic, only a minute or two away from 23rd ave with all of its awesome food and nightlife. I would definitely stay there again on my next trip through Portland.

    Jonathon2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful accommodation centrally located short distance to 23rd street, with its many shops and restaurants, and the rest of Nob Hill. The room was clean and stylish. Benjamin was very responsive and made check-in and check-out process very easy. He also shared some great tips on things to do/see/eat in Portland. Would definitely stay here again!

    Valeriya2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best stays I have had on Airbnb! The place was dialed floor to ceiling and the photos only begin to tell the story. I don’t usually pay attention to the bathroom but it was on point! Ben is super cool and knowledgable about the area! Book if you can. The neighborhood has everything you need, seriously everything… on that black. Amazing first few nights in Portland!! Thank you Ben!

    William2016-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place in a perfect location! So close to all the NW shops, restaurants and bars. Very walkable. Would definitely stay here again.

    Lisa2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ben was very welcoming and kind! We came in late Monday evening and he still gave us a tour and rundown of his lovely apartment. The minimalist simplicity of the apartment made for a beautiful aesthetic and the natural light was perfect. Despite its beauty our favorite aspect of the Apt Upstairs was actually how walkable it was to 23d! Also, Ben provided us with a list of cool things to do which was very helpful. We can't wait to get back to Portland and would love to stay here again!!

Relaxed + modern one bedroom basement apt. Bright + spacious with a handmade Portland touch. Comfortable for two, it's a great home-base for the traveler wanting to explore PDX! Located in charming Woodlawn neighborhood. Near the park, bars and bus lines.
Handmade by us! We're a craftsman and an interior designer who are not afraid to get our hands dirty. Stay in this remodeled basement where every detail was thought, planned and carefully constructed. We value high-end, conscious design. Our motto is maintain, reclaim and sustain. All of the exposed wood was salvaged from this 100 year old home! We love our house and hope that you do too. It's a great, peaceful place to crash at the end of the day. A plush queen sized bed, a huge doorless walk-in bathroom (ie. divided by a wall), glass walk-in shower and a tiny but efficient kitchen were top priorities when we made this place. The kitchen has dishwasher/fridge/oven stocked with all the pots/pans and plates to make a nice meal at home. Its always a shifting art-installation, so don't be surprised if the art in the listing photos change. We like to collect art and objects during our travels.
We're one block from 2 major bus lines (the 8 goes to downtown) and our neighborhood market, P's & Q's. 3 blocks from Woodlawn park + 5 blocks to our neighborhood hub: breweries, dance hall, coffee shop and restaurants. Woodlawn is a great area and closely located to Alberta Arts District, Mississippi and Kenton.

    Rudolf2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • A stylish cosy space with all the necessary amenities for an enjoyable stay. Although we were not able to meet Anna and Jeremy in person, their detailed information made it extremely easy for us to check-in and check-out. The neighborhood seemed pretty calm with ample street parking. They also had some recommendations for local restaurants that we found really helpful.

    Ashesh2018-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable bed, wonderful shower, and the host was very nice. There are two good brewpubs and a fantastic coffee house a short walk away.

    Jenni2018-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Jeremy's place is a perfectly curated apartment in the basement of their awesome house. There was plenty of street parking, fun things to do in the neighborhood, and easy access to downtown and the airport. We will definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a place to stay in PDX!

    Meghan2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so beautifully designed! The bed is incredibly comfortable, the shower is amazing, and it was a nice cozy spot when the temps got chilly. In a great location - good restaurants & bars just down the street and the hosts were super helpful with recommendations. I'd definitely stay here again.

A quiet, cozy bedroom & bathroom on the ground floor of a beautiful, modern new home in a verdant, friendly Southeast Portland neighborhood. Enthusiastic greeting by very friendly dogs & cat comes standard!
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE LISTING BEFORE REQUESTING ACCOMMODATION. As a courtesy to our guests, our check-in time is 2:00 pm; however, as we both work weekdays, we cannot have the rooms ready until 5:30 or so. What this means is that our guests are welcome to make themselves at home in their living room or just drop their bags off and head out exploring, but they won't be able to rest their weary heads or hit the showers until we've had a chance to get home and tidy up. (PLEASE NOTE: This listing highlights the primary guest bedroom available, but for parties of 3 or 4 people, we do have a secondary bedroom that also features a queen-sized bed. If you are making a reservation for two people and you wish to book both bedrooms, PLEASE EXPLICITLY TELL US SO, as the default for two guests is ONE bedroom; for a two-guest reservation, the cost will be the listed room rate + $30/night. All guests share the same bathroom.) There is almost an entire floor available in our newish home smack-dab in the heart of fun, accessible Southeast Portland! This means that our guest(s) get not only their own quiet bedroom, but also a private full bathroom AND their own nicely-appointed living room (please note: the first-floor living room is NOT private, as it does not have a ceiling and is the way between the front door of the house and the stairs to the second floor). We are steps away from a frequent-service bus line, a terrific sandwich shop that's open for breakfast, lunch AND dinner, a pizza joint, a Starbucks, and, best of all, a Trader Joe's! The house is about two miles south of the trendy Hawthorne district, one mile south of nationally-recognized Division Street, and about four miles east of downtown Portland. The house itself is a beautiful, soaring Doug Fir- and hemlock-constructed dream home decorated with one-of-kind glass art pieces and potted succulents. Our guests have access to our fabulous kitchen in addition to their own first-floor amenities. We have a very friendly housecat you will likely meet during your stay, but the guest bedroom and guest bathroom doors are kept closed for the comfort of allergen-sensitive guests. We also have two friendly dogs who will greet you eagerly upon your arrival, but who otherwise spend their time hanging out with us and don't wander much to the guest floor. Lastly, to our guests during the colder months: the guest floor tends to be the coolest in the house, and we provide space heaters and afghans for your comfort, but we figure we should let you know ahead of time that if you run cold, ours may not be the ideal place for your stay.
Our neighborhood is so great! We are really close to several cool Portland hubs, but we're on a relatively quiet residential street so we truly have the best of all worlds.

    Christian2016-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Brad & Becca's urban treehouse was a fabulous choice for my daughter and I's short stay in Portland. The location was central and was within biking distance of some great places to eat. It was nice having the entire floor to (Website hidden by Airbnb) felt very private and we had space to stretch out. Very appreciative that we could rent bikes directly from Becca and bike all over the city.

    Janet2015-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We found both Brad and Becca to be very responsive to our plans and the various updates preceding our arrival. The instructions for entering the house were clear and the accommodations were clean and comfortable and it was pleasantly quiet for us. ~ Despite the fact that we were out all day, Brad made an effort to "connect" with us so we could have a little "face time." Thank you! Michael & Karin

  • Brad and Becca know what they are doing! Their place is magical - Brad constructed an amazing map of things to do in Portland. Their Airbnb is a private bedroom/bathroom on your own floor. They have an adorable, sweet cat! Street parking is easy.

  • I had an absolutely fantastic stay at Brad and Becca's house. The house is new, well kept, and clean. The bed is dream to sleep on. The location is solid for anything you'd want to do in SE and access to 75, a main bus line, is just around the corner. Highly recommended.

Newly constructed in 2016, our private detached garden studio sits in the heart of a quiet residential neighborhood and is a short stroll to top restaurants, food carts, and shopping in hip SE Portland. The space is compact -- about 240sf -- but cozy, bright and a great place to unwind after a day of exploring Portland!
Our cozy studio includes a comfy queen bed, vaulted ceilings, full bathroom, kitchenette, and small sitting area. It's fully detached from the main house, so offers complete privacy. Skylights, french doors, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide an abundance of natural light, even on a grey, drizzly Portland day, as well as views of the west hills. It's small --about 240sf-- but the space is well utilized with many amenities such as wireless Bluetooth speaker, Portland maps and guides, and comfy pillows and blankets to make it feel like home. The space is best suited for guests seeking a cozy place to relax and recharge after a day of exploring Portland; If you're needing more of a "hangout spot," this may not be the best fit. The studio has a full bathroom with shower (no tub). The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, sink, instant hot water, coffee maker, coffee press, microwave and everything you need for reheating leftovers from the many restaurants and food carts nearby. Complementary tea and coffee are provided along with a long list of restaurant recommendations. There’s a growler available for filling, which you can do at The Imperial Bottle Shop on Division Street and at many local breweries and grocery stores nearby.
We love living in the heart of the Richmond neighborhood! Nestled on a quiet, residential street, we're a short stroll (about 1/3mi) to hip and eclectic restaurant and retail districts of SE Portland. A 4-block walk brings you to a bus stop that can get you most anywhere else in town. A short walk from the studio brings you to food, shopping and entertainment (to name a few of our favorites): PokPok, Salt & Straw, Ava Gene's, Bollywood Theater; Food Cart pods, Little T Bakery, St Honore; A myriad of boutiques, shops and independent movie theaters on Hawthorne, Clinton and Division streets. You'll likely meet some friendly neighborhood cats during your stay, but due to severe allergies, our studio is pet- and allergen-free. You may also spot our eyepatch-wearing, kung fu-performing neighbor (and good friend) practicing in the street, sometimes alongside his 4yo daughter. He’s a world-renowned martial artist and teacher, is super friendly and adds some true Portland character to our otherwise sleepy neighborhood.
  • Melissa's place is even better in person! It is amazingly light and bright! She was so easy too communicate with and greeted us after we arrived to make sure we were all taken care of. The studio has everything you might need and was super comfortable! We were lucky to arrive on a sunny March day so we could enjoy the outdoor patio!

    Chelsea2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Far better than you could hope for. Location is awesome, hosts are attentive but respect your privacy and the place is so nice, clean and comfortable. My wife called it "Pinterest like". Don't hesitate, book now!

  • Melissa and Brian's place is just lovely. It looks like something out of a magazine--airy and beautifully decorated with everything you need for a Portland stay. It's located in a lovely neighborhood walking distance from a lot of fun places! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!

Appreciate the ease of check-in/check-out, the local recommendations, the beautiful patio area (for when it's not rainy - haha), and the clean comfort of the entire space. Thank you, Melissa!

The space was clean, cozy, and exactly what we were looking for. The location is insanely close to amazing restaurants, walking paths, shops, & more. This was our first time to Portland, and as a result of this unforgettable experience, we will no doubt be back!

  • If you're visiting Portland and want to be within walking distance to a ton of restaurants, bars and shops then stay here! North West Portland is super cool and has everything you need to enjoy yourself. The neighborhood is a great place to get a feel for the city and close enough so you can get everywhere you want by a short Lyft ride. Aside from the location, the apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

    Justin2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Conveniently located close to public transit, restaurants, and shops in Trendy fun and safe neighbourhood. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were luxury linens and towels. The apartment was very clean and has its own temperature control. Loved the natural environmentally friendly bodywash and hand soap. We found the building itself quiet but there is early morning noise from the street and the occasional late night intoxicated patron from the pub downstairs but it wasnt really that bothersome and they have done everything possible to ensure comfort including sound resistant window coverings. We loved our little home away from home and would definately stay again!

    Patricia2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Really the perfect AirBnB. Clean, has all the essentials, as well as awesome soaps and cleaning products. In a busy area but not too loud at night. Felt really comfortable and at home in the apartment, and I hope we can stay again the next time we're back in Portland.

  • The Lovejoy room was fantastic! The photos were accurate and already looked wonderful - the actual unit was even better! It was sparkling clean and incredibly comfortable. Cute little Tiny House! It used to be our boys' fort when they were young, now it is a comfortable little retreat for adventurers exploring Portland!
Cute little back yard "granny flat" cottage located near Mt Tabor park in very desirable neighborhood! The cottage is "Portland Style" construction with excellent insulation (R30), new windows, etc.. Great host, free internet, parking, furnished living space that is quite private.. The cottage contains an upstairs bedroom & sitting area. Note: There are steep stairs, so please take that into account ~ if you have joint pain, etc. this might not be the best choice of places to stay... The QUEEN size mattress is new and comfortable. Downstairs there is a small kitchen with stove, microwave and under the counter fridge. Also downstairs is a full bath with ceramic tile shower. Coffee maker and freshly ground coffee provided in the cottage as well as complimentary muffins. At times a made to order hot breakfast is available, message me to see if it will be available during your stay :-D. Guests are welcome to use washer/dryer in main house. Guests have use of the back yard with fruit trees and some berries when in season. Also the cottage is within walking distance of Division street shops, Pizzicato pizza, the 52nd & Foster street Food Carts and much more. The # 4 bus is just a block and a half away, which can take passengers west directly downtown. The TRI-MET app or website is easy to use & can help you get you anywhere from the airport, to downtown, to Powells Books, The Chinese Garden, and so on.
South Tabor Neighborhood is a quiet eclectic little neighborhood with many avid gardners, friendly neighbors, and gobs of dog lovers. We have community get-togethers, work parties, and holiday celebrations! If you are used to neighborhoods where no one knows each other or even speaks to each other this is definitely NOT the neighborhood for you :-D
  • Quiet, cozy and very clean cottage. The hot shower was amazing. Lisa is a very welcoming host. Her breakfast burritos were to die for. We definitely recommend her place!

  • I recently completed a 3-night stay at Lisa's South Tabor Cottage. I'd love to leave a bad review so nobody ever books it again and I could live there forever, but I won't. In short, my stay was amazing. The confirmation email contained clear instructions about the check-in process and that really helped. The cottage is the cutest little thing I've ever seen. Clean, classy, quiet and in a great neighborhood. As a coffee addict, I was thrilled to see that there was a coffeemaker and Lisa left amazing freshly-ground coffee as well as cream and sugar in the fridge! The bathroom was great and clean, complete with a strong showerhead, fresh towels, shampoo and soap. The bedroom is really comfy. The bed just absorbs you and after I arrived I had one of the best 2 hour naps of my life and I l slept great every night. The cottage also has a wired internet connection, which is better than wifi for privacy. Lisa offers a free breakfast menu in the kitchen, but I didn't partake as I'm not really a "breakfast guy." My first morning there Lisa invited me to a tamale making class in the main house. I couldn't attend due to my schedule, but Lisa was so gracious as to save some tamales for me and they were really something! I may never forget those tamales. I had the opportunity to spend a little time in the main house with Lisa and her son, Zane and I am so happy I met them. They are great, genuinely friendly people and we had a really nice time chatting. The South Tabor cottage is so cute and charming that I felt like a Hobbit living in a beautiful little place in Hobbiton. So if you've ever wondered what's like to live in The Shire, book a stay at the South Tabor Cottage. This is the perfect place, whether you're single or a couple looking for a secluded romantic getaway. All in all - a great stay at a great cottage with great hosts! I truly hope to return one day...

  • We loved the South Tabor Cottage! It's so cute and cozy. The breakfasts were great too. I'm sure we will be back.

  • LIsa was a great hostess! Fun place to stay, and great homemade breakfast in the morning.

    Sam2013-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is my new home away from home. Lisa is amazing and the yummy food in the morning is a divine way to get ready for your Portland adventure. The location is perfect and easily accessible by a bus line. The neighborhood is beautiful and very quiet, trees and lots of birds singing kind of picturesque . The wifi connection was good and the welcome letter gave me all the information to enjoy the space without having to bother Lisa too much. I enjoyed my peace and quiet and learned a few extra things about being a great host from Lisa. I am a host in Seattle and was impressed by her set up and hospitality.

    Angielena2013-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was convenient to the bus line, good coffee shop, and good, inexpensive pizza. I think the cottage may be a good place to stay for a night or two but as I stayed a week I found I needed better lighting and a better place to sit. I was glad it hadn't rained while I was there because it would not have been that comfortable to stay for any length of time during the day. I wish the porches, both front and back, had been less cluttered and dirty as it didn't give me confidence that the cottage was thoroughly clean; in fact, there was a bloodstain on the mattress area. Lisa was friendly and I did appreciate the assortment of breakfast items with home made sauces.

    Kathleen2013-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was great. I was only here for one night but it was a very cool space. While the cottage looks small, it has everything you could need and I felt we had plenty of room. Lisa was very nice. I left early in the morning so I was not able to take her up on the offer for breakfast but everything she was offering to cook sounded delicious.

Nestled in the private backyard of our family home, a neighborhood hub. The round, rustic, romantic MudHut hides in a secret garden overlooking the St. Johns bridge and sparkling river, near Cathedral Park, Forest Park, downtown St. Johns, canoe and hiking trails... Firepit, permaculture gardens, loaner bikes, community life, view!
Our hut was handbuilt by family, friends, and community with great love and serves as a guesthouse, homeschool hut, sauna and sanctuary. Wood-heated and candle-lit, it's a tranquil, rustic sleeping space. I recommend staying two nights for an immersive experience in the relaxing atmosphere.
We're in St. Johns, Portland's northern-most neighborhood and a small town of its own with a strong community identity here. Many families here trace their roots back to James John, the pioneer founder of St. Johns who is memorialized all over the neighborhood. Downtown St. Johns is a few blocks away, with plenty of restaurants (Thai, vegan, soulfood, chinese, pub grub, pizza, deli, breakfast, coffee & gelato), an old movie theater and shopping (lots of vintage). Cathedral Park, three blocks away, is gorgeous and photogenic with access to the Willamette River and the awesome overhead presence of the gothic St. Johns Bridge that you can see from the hut. We're also close to a lot of natural areas for urban hiking and paddling. Forest Park, full of trails and old growth forest, is right across the bridge. Just north of here is Kelley Point Park, the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers; Smith and Bybee Lakes, a wetlands for birding and paddling; and Sauvie Island, with beaches, farms, nurseries, hiking, fishing, & birding. We're on the Pacific migratory fly-way, so lots of raptor action around here. Bald eagles, peregrine falcons and hawks swoop by regularly.
  • What an amazing experience! We're currently working on a mockumentary about a sustainable living commune. Staying in the cob hut made it feel like we were a part of our own film. The hut and surrounding property was poetic and cozy, and it made us feel so connected to the natural side of living. We absolutely LOVED the concept of no electricity and only using candles for our evening lighting (beyond romantic, IMO). The gardens were a joy, with fruit dripping off the trees. Our host, Ivy, far exceeded our expectations, as she was warm and courteous as she showed us around the property. The communication before our arrival was perfect as well. She served us delicious tea in the morning. Don’t let the bathroom fool you (based on what others wrote). Yes, it does "look" dark and creepy going down and below their house. But looks are deceiving! The shower head, water pressure, and shower size easily made it our best showering experience of our 10 day road trip (beside a luxury bath in Tahoe). Our only regret was not staying longer. Ivy and her kids made us feel quite welcome, and this is certainly a place I plan on visiting again. Very unique!

    Greg2014-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Such a gnarly experience!!

    Nate2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • So whimsical! Ivy was great! Very helpful and kind. The mudhut was very charming and the garden smelled so good to walk through! We will back very soon! This kind of experience is hard to find, much like a fairytale!

    Rhiley2015-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Portland wouldn't have been the same without the hospitality of Ivy and the privacy of the mud hut. Her property was inspiring and there's nothing more relaxing than soaking in the hot tub in her beautiful garden on a blue bird day. Truly fortunate to have been able to stay the night. Thank you Ivy

    Joshua2015-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our time exploring Portland and surrounding areas while staying in the mud hut. It is cozy and unique, located in a pretty quiet neighborhood not too far from downtown and other fun streets to explore. I enjoyed hearing the train going by in the morning and lighting the candles made for a neat effect, though we didn't keep them on too long since it had been quite hot that day in the city. Ivy was gracious, communicated well and accommodated for us arriving a tad later than planned. Thank you for hosting us :)

    Amanda2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ivy's place is a gem. She couldn't have been kinder or more accommodating. It is truly a unique place and I wish we had more time to really take in all that the property and outdoor space offers. Thank you for sharing.

    Rainy2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ivy was very welcoming and kind. The mud hut and the surrounding land are a sweet sanctuary to relax/ recharge in. A truly unique and special place where you can feel the love that went into creating it. I enjoyed exploring the food in the area and Cathedral Park, and it was also very easy to get in and out of the neighborhood to see more parts of Portland. The photos and description are accurate and exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort!

    Kathleen2015-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • I wasn't there, I booked it for my husband, but he had nothing but rave reviews. And changed his trip on the return end so that he could stay again on his way home. Unique and beautiful is what he said and I can't wait to see the photos.

This space will make you feel cozy and right at home! A bright and well appointed tiny house located in Northeast Portland. Just steps from some of the best restaurants in all of Portland. The Alberta Arts district is just a few blocks away with cafes, pubs and local shopping. There are unique neighborhood amenities, such as the soaking pool and movie theater at the Kennedy School. For more photos and neighborhood info, visit: @portlandtinyhouse on Instagram.
We put a lot of love into Portland Tiny House. The space includes warm wood flooring, ceramic tiling, modern decor and special vintage touches. The house has a very comfortable Tuft and Needle queen sized bed, bathroom, kitchenette equipped for cooking light meals and cozy counter seating for two. Coffee, tea, fresh eggs and Portland travel guides provided. Need anything else?...just let us know! (2 guests with a small child may sometimes be accommodated)
Guests are a block away from Portland's most popular and notable restaurants: DOC, Beast, Autentica, Dame, Expatriate, Wilder and Yakuza Lounge. The house is within walking distance to the local New Seasons Market and the Alberta Arts District with shops/restaurants/art galleries and the hugely popular Last Thursday monthly arts festival. You certainly won't want to miss all of the wonderful shops and restaurants up on Alberta Street. There are many popular restaurants that often have a line to get in (yes...they are THAT good!) like Pine State Biscuits, Salt and Straw Ice Cream, The Grilled Cheese Grill and the Bollywood Theater. Lots of vegan dining as well: Vita Cafe, Back to Eden Bakery and the Bye and Bye Pub. So many wonderful options, we usually have a hard time deciding what to pick! Just around the corner: Walk a block up to enjoy hand-crafted morning coffee at Extracto or breakfast at Cup & Saucer. Drop in to take a yoga class at The People's Yoga studio. Hunt for fun vintage finds at Red Fox Vintage. Or you can explore the McMenamins Kennedy School: a historic elementary school re-purposed as a hotel (including a movie theater, soaking pool ($5 for a relaxing soak), restaurants and pubs). There are two parks within walking distance from the tiny house, Alberta Park and Fernhill Park. Peninsula Park is also a quick jaunt from the tiny house and it boasts a beautiful, seasonal rose garden that is often less crowded than the well known International Rose Test Garden in the West hills.

  • This was the best Airbnb we've stayed in yet! Charming, clean, exactly as described. It was in a great location - lots of food choices nearby, and easy to get to all parts of Portland. Also the bed was the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in! Would highly recommend this place, and will stay again if we come back to Portland.

  • Roland and his housemates were very accommodating and respectful. The place is private, but there is no doorway or separation from the downstairs, as you can see in the pictures. Even so, I slept great and felt that my needs were being considered and respected by the house. Also, the private bathroom with Jacuzzi… That tub is a bit of a religious experience. The neighborhood is quiet but happening, and there are lots of great places to walk to easily. Highly recommend and will probably be back in the future!

  • My new home away from home. Roland is a great host!

    Vincent2018-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Roland was very welcoming, and gave me plenty of privacy. The room was spacious, well-lit and comfortable, and the bath was a real treat.

    Kevin2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • It's a nice big space with a private bath, both of which are very important. The stairs could be difficult for some, but I did fine. As I stated, there isn't a door on the room and you can see down the spiral stairs to the front door, so it felt a little odd, but my privacy was never compromised. Roland's house caretaker was there, but he was not invasive and helped get the fireplace going for me. Overall it was fine. The neighborhood is nice for walking. There is a Starbucks a nice, but short walk from the house. Good location for getting around to the fun places!

    Sandy2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Truly enjoyed my stay at “the loft.” Ronald was a great host. The loft was exactly as described, clean, comfortable and private. The room had tv with cable, a mini fridge, a microwave & coffee/coffee maker. Lovely, safe, family friendly neighborhood with plenty of parking . Walking distance to Division St where you can find trendy cafes, food and drink, and shops (loved Flying Cat Coffee, & the cute earnings I bought at Gypsy Chic Boutique!). I’d definitely recommend staying at “the loft.” Great space, at a great price, great location, & great host. Thank you for everything, Roland!

    Elizabeth2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Roland was a very kind and attentive host. He really made me feel at home and some of my favourite moments were spent chatting with him. The place is in a perfect location, near to the Division and Hawthorne districts, full of great places to eat and drink. But it was a few blocks away so quiet at night and had a friendly neighbourhood feel. The loft itself is very well equipped and is practically an apartment in its own right. On top of this it was great value, so I would highly recommend it.

The Hawthorne Wisteria Retreat is exactly as pictured - private, charming, clean - a special retreat! All amenities we needed were provided. The location is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, convenient to transportation. With its own private garden entrance, it truly is a retreat. Furnishings were comfortable. • What a gorgeous loft that Heidi and Marenda have built to share. This was by far one of THE best places I've stayed on vacation. It was so warm and welcoming down to the last detail. Wished I could have stayed longer. If you get a chance to stop on by for even one night I highly recommend booking a stay here. Thanks again ladies! Hoping next time I make my way out to PDX I'll stay here again and get a chance to meet you.

    Lauryn2016-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, clean, modern and cozy home! Had a wonderful first time Airbnb experience. We loved all the windows and skylights, especially at night when we could hear the rain. This place was well stocked with anything that you could have possibly forgot to pack. Overall it blew our expectations waaaay out of the water and we would DEFIANTLY be booking here again!

  • This little gem was perfect! Everything was even better than described. Small touches like snacks in the fridge, q-tips and and toiletries in case you forgot something, books and magazines about the (Website hidden by Airbnb) was impressive. We arrived late and they were sweet and left a light in for us. We received a text welcoming us and letting us know we could contact them for any need. It was all just so cozy, inviting and safe. Great quiet little neighborhood, but located so it's really easy and quick to get to anything you'd need. It was an ideal place to stay and if we head back up that way, I would book it again in a heartbeat.

    Nanette2016-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Heidi and Marenda's loft was perfect. Everything you could possibly want on vacation, they have put thought into every detail for all their guests to feel relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend this place!

    Heather2016-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived late on a Thursday evening. The loft was cozy, clean and super cool! The hosts were kind enough to have yogurt, granola, oatmeal, eggs and plenty of coffee for us, which was super nice since we had no time to shop. The loft is located in the cool backyard and their two dogs visited us in the mornings! This place has a well stocked kitchen if you want to throw down a good meal, although we were on such a tight schedule, we didn't get to take advantage. The neighborhood is great and I was able to get out for a nice, safe long run! We didn't get to meet the hosts, but we sure appreciated a nice place to stay and we got a lot of great ideas for upgrades to our home in Bozeman! Thank you Heidi and Marenda! We hope to be back again!

    Connie2016-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • The house looks exactly like the photos. Everything was very bright & clean. I appreciated the shampoo & body lotion in the bathroom. Loved having a washer & dryer!! Plenty of street parking for the car. This was a great place for a weekend getaway.

    Kimberly2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This spot could not have been more perfect! The loft is absolutely gorgeous, so clean, and very comfortable. Heidi and Marenda were welcoming and responsive and have lovely dogs! They were also sweet enough to leave us some yogurts and all the fixings for coffee. I enjoyed having coffee on the little deck in the morning and relaxing in this space. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, but there is easy public transportation to other parts of the city and a few great coffee shops/bars nearby.

    Abigail2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! The hosts are welcoming, their property is beautiful, and the loft was cozy and super cool! It was great to have a home as a couple traveling in a new city, so we felt comfortable hanging out to figure out our destinations for the day, then being able to completely relax after a long day of exploring! If we'd stayed longer we definitely would have cooked some meals with the provided tools and fully functional kitchen. Although bikes were available, we ended up taking public transportation because it was so easy to get around! I thankfully left my car parked for our stay. I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone who wants to see the neighborhoods of Portland, but if you need to be close to downtown there are better locations.

Seen on the TV show "Tiny House Nation", CNN, Food & Wine Magazine, and the NY Post, the 350 sq ft Rustic Modern Tiny House was designed and built by us, your friendly AirBNB hosts. Guests call it "completely charming" and "the perfect urban getaway". Welcome! M+J
For years we've been daydreaming about building a little house one day. Then we finally made it happen - using our own two hands (DIY! The Portland way!) and with the help of some great friends. We had a vision in mind, but a lot of the details came together as we built, based on what materials we had available to us. Downstairs is the kitchen, living room with convertible couch, and bathroom with tiny clawfoot tub. Access the upstairs via STAIRS (not a ladder), where you'll find our loft bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed. Sustainable design is important to us, and the house is constructed and furnished from an eclectic array of reclaimed materials - squirreled away over the years, and now creatively reused and repurposed. See photo captions for a detailed walkthrough of the house. We love our walk/bike friendly N. Williams Ave neighborhood - it's been getting a lot of media attention as one of Portland's hottest neighborhoods. You are one block from the main corridor, bustling with award-winning restaurants, bars, coffee shops, wine bars, bakeries, yoga studios, and indie boutiques - it seems there's something new every week. Sunset Magazine loves its “low-key urban vibe", past guests call our neighborhood "awesome", "amazing" and "full of things to do". Our street has even made an appearance or two on the TV show Portlandia.
  • Amazing location! A short walk to great Portland neighborhoods. The space is creative and cozy. Jenny and Michael were good hosts, ultra quick to answer any questions.

  • I LOVED The Tiny House and want to make my own!! The place was great. A perfect space for two, but I could also see it working for four people if you don't mind close quarters. Beautiful personal touches on everything. The neighborhood is great - within walking distance to food and drink, and a 15 minute walk to Mississippi street for a little shopping. We rented bikes and had no problem covering most of the city. The only problem I could see - for older folks, less mobile folks - getting up and down from the loft and the bathroom is a little tight.

    Caroline2013-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • awesome space. good communication. great location. every one of their suggestions we got to try were so great.

    Dan2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in the Tiny House! The neighbourhood is really nice (and safe) and Jenny's suggestions on where to eat were terrific. Everything was really clean and really comfortable. Public transport, supermarkets and great cafes and restaurants are just a few minutes walk. I would definitely recommend staying here!

    Michael2015-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We love the Tiny House! Clean, funky, has everything you need and is in a great district. I highly recommend it.

    Lauren2013-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absolute perfect experience! The place was exactly how it was described and was such an adorable gem. Great location too. Walking distance to great food and bars (highly recommend What's the Scoop? and Tasty N Sons... both on Mississippi and a 5 min walk from the tiny house) Overall- highly recommend!

    Peter2013-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a great place to stay! I don't even know where to start. I suppose with the fabulous hosts, Michael and Jenna. Communication was quick, accurate, and all questions were answered well in advance of checking in. From a design standpoint, Michael and Jenna have impeccable taste and have created a gorgeous home. While it's billed as a "tiny home" I never felt cramped or that I was lacking anything during my stay. The residence is situated between many hip neighborhoods and I was able to find some great places to eat within 5 minutes of the home. If not, the kitchen is adequately stocked with any supplies that I may have needed. I found the neighborhood to be clean and quiet. Parking was never a problem directly outside the front door. I can't wait to come back to Portland and stay here again!

    Cody2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great way to experience Portland! We loved the tiny cabin. It was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen has two great burners for cooking - its a good, compact kitchen with everything you need. The bathroom is tight, with a tiny sink, but easy to get used to. I loved the cozy loft with blue lockers for storage. The private porch was great for drinking chai on the chilly mornings. We spent 1/2 the trip without a rental car and could easily walk to the grocery, brunch, yoga, coffee, and shopping. Or you can take an easy bus ride to the train/downtown. I don't recommend taking a taxi from the airport - that cost more than we planned. Take the train/bus if you have the time. Or you might as well rent a car, so that you can drive to the coast! Less than 2 hours away! It was easy to text and communicate with the host. Appreciated the passcode entry to the cabin.

Experience the best Portland has to offer from a private studio in a lush, backyard garden. Our beautiful, eco-home on a quiet street is conveniently located in Southeast Portland's best and most walkable neighborhood.
Chosen as one of Portland's 10 best Airbnb rentals by Portland Monthly Magazine, it's hard to find a better deal. Tucked between Hawthorne and Division, you’ll have easy access to award-winning restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops, parks, and so much more. Our 1909 built home is clean, tranquil, and truly unique. Previously featured on Portland's Build it Green home tour. The one-room light-filled studio is perfect for a single or couple. It has a comfortable full-sized bed with nice linens, a small table and chairs, coat and luggage racks (there is no closet), and a place to sit and read while you enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. Whatever season you are visiting Portland in, you will find the studio to be quite comfortable. It stays nice and cool in the warmer months with a ceiling fan, and the convection heater keeps it warm in the winter. Beautiful photography, by a local artist, graces the walls.

    Angelika2014-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Joelle and James were wonderful hosts. The Garden Studio is just as amazing as it looks in the pictures and the bed was comfortable enough to fit the two of us. We couldn't have asked for a better neighborhood, everything was so pretty and it we only had to walk for a few minutes to get to (almost) everywhere we wanted to go. Thanks again for everything, you made us feel very welcomed and comfortable for those couple of days - we only wish we could've stayed longer! PS. We'll be dreaming of those raspberry bars for a long time!

    Anna2015-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • James and Joelle were the most wonderful hosts. The garden studio is nested amidst the greenery of trees and bamboo, it is quiet, private (you can draw the floral window shades) and very cozy. James and Joelle truly treat their guests as if they were visiting friends, the attention to detail in every aspect of your stay will really touch you: from the freshly cut flowers, to a beautiful ceramic plate on a nightstand where you could put your jewelry, to bathrobes to enjoy the outdoor tub (which was amasing!), to different blankets for optimal temperature, to transit maps and magazines with local travel suggestions - supplemented by the hosts' personal recommendations, to James' delicious baked goods and a lovely selection of teas, to bubble bath and salt for your bathing pleasure in the in-house bathroom. The house, where you are welcome to use the kitchen, living room and first floor bathroom, has a lot of character and is very well appointed; it is a pleasure to spend the morning there, while sipping a cup of tea. We feel that our stay at the garden studio has really enhanced our one-week trip to Portland. Having conversations with our hosts, petting their 3 adorable cats, exploring the bustling neighbourhoods of Hawthorne, Division, Belmont and Burnside by foot has been incredibly easy and enjoyable, with lots of great food and local boutiques all around. Coming back to the house in the evening, we felt very safe and enjoyed the sounds of the crickets or children playing in the yard. We spent little time downtown and really got to soak up the vibrant neighbourhood life of Portland. When we return to Portland, we would definitely stay at the garden studio again - this is by far the best AirBnb stay we've had! Thank you Joelle and James!

  • Joelle and James's hospitality was fantastic. They provided a beautiful place to stay in addition to welcoming us into their home. They have lovely cats and made us delicious vegan and gluten-free treats. If you are looking for an easy and memorable get-away in a convenient location, I would very much recommend the Urban Garden Studio.

    Jamey2013-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, wonderful experience. Joelle was there to greet us right when we arrived and she gave us a quick tour. The garden studio was a beautiful room and the neighborhood was easy to explore by walking. We appreciated the guide book that was provided and used several of the recommendations. And then there's the raspberry bars that were truly out of this world! Joelle and James come off as very kind and genuine people that put a lot of thought into hosting guests. Great experience, no complaints, and we would definitely stay here again when we're in town. Thank you!

Brand spanking new, beautiful, modern addition built on our ranch house.
Our 425 square foot addition is brand new (finished 2015) - immaculately designed, gorgeous and a perfect place to stay during your time in Portland. It has a pellet stove for delightful ambiance (and heating), it's own entrance, a blow-up air mattress (for a third guest) and a patio. Stay in a place completely Portland, powered by solar panels, built environmentally friendly, sitting on a major bike street and a couple blocks from the MAX light rail.
Our house is within 2 miles of the fantastic north and north east neighborhoods of Williams, Mississippi and Alberta. There are dozens of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance and I leave a list of our local favorites in the house.
  • We were only in for one night but had a very nice stay in the addition. Everything is brand new and beautiful. We took the Max in to downtown which only took about ten minutes and walked to breakfast in the morning. The pellet stove was a big plus on a chilly evening.

  • Stayed here for one night with my girlfriend. It’s a cute place and my girlfriend loved all the decor.

    Ariel (JR)2018-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is described as it is and is located in the lower/basement level of the house. Therefore, there’s a stair going up and down. They have a great amenities and a comfy bed. There’s no TV in the unit but that’s not an issue for us. It is good to be unplugged from electronic devices once in a while. Both Melissa and Ken are great hosts and we saw Truman and their black cat!

    Ay-Lih2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa's place was beautifully decorated. It was full of thoughtful details (like fresh eggs and local beer in the fridge, recommendations for local places, and fresh whole bean coffee!). It was impeccably clean and cozy and the perfect place to stay if you're traveling solo or in a couple. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and she had the flexibility to let us check in early so we could take a break from our conference. Thanks so much!

    Samantha2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy place!

    Agnes2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa's place has it all! The basement apartment is quiet, clean, and super stylish. It's nearby the lively Alberta street, which has lots of cute shops and restaurants. Downtown Portland is a short drive away, and we found it really easy to navigate all over Portland from the apartment. Melissa was a joy to communicate with and made check-in and check-out a breeze. I hope to stay here again the next time I'm in Portland.

    Jackson2018-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Really fantastic place to stay! Great style while still being cozy & comfortable. Very clean & tidy. I'm looking forward to returning!

    Mikao2018-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. The apartment is so cute and had everything we needed.

    Jessica2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Saw Melissa’s place and instantly fell in love! It looks exactly like the pictures! Everything went smoothly from start to finish. We had plenty to do in the area and enjoyed relaxing inside the cozy studio. If you’re looking for a place in the Alberta Arts District, look no further. You get all you need and more at a fantastic price. We also bonded with her sweet cat Audrey— a bonus for this cat lady ❤️ Thanks so much for being an amazing host Melissa (and Audrey)!! • We loved our stay here! The apartment was prepared perfectly, exactly as the description, and the little details (little notes & welcome cookies) really made us feel welcome. We only wish we could have stayed longer. The apartment itself was spotless and recently renovated. The place was spacious and cozy enough for our family of four - the couch could be easily rearranged into 2 beds. We fell in love with the neighbourhood - very residential and quiet, with so many great restaurants and shops (SE Division St) a stone's throw away. We will be recommending this place to our friends and would love to stay here again if we revisit Portland.

  • Chuck and Annika made us feel welcome right from the start. The apartment was exactly as described and even better in person. It was very clean and cozy and all the furniture was very comfortable. Parking was very easy to find on the street. The neighborhood was amazing with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. We loved our time in Portland and would definitely stay here again!

    Cori2015-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable dwelling in a very convenient location...our stay was enhanced by Chuck's advice on local spots, and by the numerous guide books present in the apartment. We loved our time in Portland and this home away from home contributed to our positive experience.

  • Awesome location - very clean, nice apartment with a comfy bed and nice shower. They left us delicious chocolate chip cookies which was very thoughtful! Easy check-in as well. Great stay!

  • The apartment is tucked under the house-- a rather steep flight of stairs right after the front door. But the place itself is lovely-- clean, well-appointed, nice lighting. Our teenaged daughter slept in the main room and loved the duvet and blankets, wanted to stay one more night. The neighborhood is quite fun-- great food, quirky shops. I walked around a lot. Thanks!

    Yoko2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were greeted with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, yum! The bed was comfy and we had everything we needed for our stay. The location was great with a fine selection of top notch restaurants.

  • What a perfect location and such accommodating hosts! The apartment was very clean and comfortable. We also loved the close proximity to great cafes, shops, and restaurants. We'll definitely stay here again when we return to Portland!

  • Chuck and Annika's apartment was great. We felt so at home from the moment we stepped in. We loved the bathroom and kitchen, they look brand new. The place was bigger than we expected which was great. The bedroom has a good size bed and we found it very comfortable. The neighbourhood was gorgeous and the location was perfect, just a short stroll to some great food and drinks. We had an amazing time in Portland, thank you Chuck and Annika!

Our studio guest house comfortably sleeps two and features a mini kitchen and private bath. Walk through the garden to your private entrance. Curl up by the fire and enjoy one of the art books from our library. Walk to nearby Alberta Arts District.
With two small children at home, we have found little time to paint in the second floor of the studio building at the rear of our property. Come and enjoy this lovely space! It features high ceilings, ample light, a wood stove (with back-up electric heat), views of the surrounding gardens, a large table and a drafting table to spread out and work on, and an art book library. The kitchenette is equipped with a sink, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and electric kettle. It does not have a cook top or oven or toaster. We provide coffee and tea. The bathroom features a shower stall and an eco-toilet that collects water from hand washing to use on the next flush. With summer temperatures rising, we recently added an AC window unit for our guests comfort. We offer a full bed with a seven inch Ikea spring mattress and a two inch memory-foam topper. Our guests report that the room is surprisingly quiet at night. Please note we do not have a TV; however, our wifi is fast enough to watch movies or shows on your personal device.
I love this place. This is a residential neighborhood with a wide cross section of racial and economic diversity, a lot of the old 'hood funkiness still intact, plus newer hipster creativity and some higher-end business activity. Expect to see a mix of dilapidated buildings and newer or rejuvenated construction. We feel safe at night, however I do advise women to be wary about walking alone at night, particularly if you don't have much street smarts. We are within easy walking distance of Alberta Street Co-op, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and other businesses. The post office, laundromat, Safeway and Walgreens are very close by as well.
  • Great host, awesome studio makes me feel at home. Quiet neighborhood and you get your privacy. Would definitely stay there again.

    Horacio2016-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was super cozy and beautifully decorated, on a cute little residential street close to the Alberta Arts district. They provided really delicious coffee and half and half in the fridge and that was amazing! Nell's family and dogs were lovely and welcoming. Communication was easy and the space was perfect. Thank you!

  • This place was cozy and clean and very conveniently located to restaurants and shops. The hosts were lovely!

    Tyler2015-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was the first place I've stayed at using Airbnb and it was far better than I had imagined. I was planning on listing my apartment at some point on this site but now I'm afraid my guests won't feel the same way that they feel after staying here (like you wish you actually live here). It is simply a spacious and calming retreat to stay at and enjoy and explore Portland from. To top it off, there was some freshly ground coffee and cream that I shamelessly helped myself to. Would stay here again if I had the chance.

    Jae2015-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great location in Portland. Very easy walking to Alberta Street which features many restaurants and shops. Nell made us feel very welcome sharing the yard and toys for our 18 month old to play in. We greatly enjoyed our brief one night visit to Portland. It was the perfect place to have a respite from the road on a long trip.

    Corinne2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is truly a lovely spot, lots of natural light and a comfortable feel. Nell greeted us in the garden when we arrived, and we had a fantastic stay.

    Erica & Adam2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was exactly as pictured - it was a gorgeous studio with a lot of natural light coming in (which I loved), and the fireplace was definitely a neat experience. Checking in was easy, and there wasn't any disturbance from the dogs at all. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, and it wasn't too far off from good food and public transport :)

    Nicolette2015-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nell's place is fantastic! Exactly how described. Nice locations and easy to get downtown. We would definitely stay there again.

My house is close to light rail and bus lines in a quiet and secure area. Many restaurants, coffee houses and bars are within walking distance and there is a large grocery store nearby in case you need provisions. There are parks within walking distance as is the Adidas campus. My place is good for solo adventurers and business travelers. There is another bedroom that can sleep two and I have an air mattress available.
Private home with 2 bedrooms in the upstairs of the house. Fully equipped kitchen with a laundry room. The stove is gas so please ask for instructions on how it works before using. The back yard is shady and there is a patio with a fireplace. The neighborhood is very quiet and easy to walk around in.
There are quite a few very good restaurants with in walking distance of the house with a sprinkling of coffee houses and bars. Well lit and quiet there are also a couple of parks with in a few blocks. Also a great grocery store is near by.
  • Sheila is such a helpful host! Her details for checking in, even if it's late, we're super clear. The bathroom for guests is great and even has items for if you get sick on your trip! It's not right downtown, but it is well-connected by bus.

    Michelle2017-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sheilah's place is easy to access with public transport, quiet, pleasant and has nice coffee shops and restaurants nearby. I found it to be a great value, and really very comfortable nice place to spend three days

    Luna2018-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sheilah's place is in a very walkable neighborhood. Coffee, food and the light rail are all within a few blocks and the area is very safe at night. The room is on the second floor so anyone with mobility concerns should keep that in mind. The room was very clean and comfortable, with a great dresser, closet and nightstand that make you feel much more at home. Sheila was a great host and though I wasn't able to extend my reservation (to be fair to her, I decided to stay a few more days very last minute!) she was very helpful in recommending a neighborhood convinent for the sights I wanted to see in Portland. Would absolutely stay here again!

  • This room provides everything you need for an amazing trip to Portland. I stayed for about 5 days and had the best time. The house is close to small restaurants so it makes dining easy. It is just about a 5 block walk to the yellow line which takes you directly into downtown. I was able to get everywhere I needed to go in Portland from the train near the house. The room is exactly as pictured and is equipped with a private bedroom heater which was nice. There is a separate wing for the guests rooms each with its own semi private entrance, I never even knew when I had guests in the room next to me, it was quiet and comfortable. Sheilah was also great and super nice, I only ran into her a few times but she was such a sweetheart and was really helpful throughout the booking process. I highly recommend staying here if you get the chance, I know I definitely want to come back soon!

Inner SE Portland is an established older mixed use residential urban neighborhood with narrow streets, sidewalks, single family houses, apartments and schools. The main corridor -Division Street- has been experiencing moderate retail and service re-development which has energized the neighborhood with a wide range of restaurants and food-cart vendors as well as natural food markets and coops, and boutiques. Overall livability is excellent as public transport and bike lanes are accessible and convenient. In summary, there is: public transportation, retail, restaurants, markets, bakeries, parks, rose gardens, nightlife, theaters, and live entertainment within walking distance and/or a few minutes ride.
  • This was a clean, quiet and cozy spot in a good location. Kurt and Nathalie left detailed instructions inside the studio and were very easy to get in touch with. The refrigerator and pantry had the essentials: milk, eggs, butter, coffee. I would definitely stay here again.

    Dana2017-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • I can't say enough great things about Kurt and Nathalie's studio. The location alone should make anyone want to immediately book this studio, but the details they have put into the place makes it a wonderful place to stay. From the abundant natural lighting to the cute French country inspired kitchen and a variety of books, we were very happy to call this place home during our week in Portland. They provided clear details on checking in and checking out, ease of communication, a list of recommendations on where to eat, friendly conversation and a fridge full of breakfast foods. Kurt and Nathalie have been one of the best hosts we have encountered using AirBnB.

    Amy2016-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Kurt and Nathalie's place. The studio was even better than we anticipated, and there were nice touches such as a fridge stocked with food and water. The neighborhood was the perfect spot for a weekend in Portland. We could get downtown easily, or we could just walk from the studio to all the spots on Division Street. We also ran into Kurt and Nathalie (and their friendly dog Myrna) a couple times throughout the weekend. They were very friendly and welcoming, and they offered up advice and ideas for places to check out, all of which were great. We definitely look forward to coming back sometime and staying here again.

    Edward2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place was excellent! Very cute house in a cool neighborhood. Kurt and Nathalie went above and beyond as hosts. The place is stocked with everything you could need. We'd highly recommend their place.

    Sara2018-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • The space is lovely. The kitchen area had a fridge and a stove top, which were great for buying food to cook. Its in a great location and Nathalie gave me great tips for the bus line and for local eateries.

    Lori2018-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • If we could give it 6 stars, we would! The space is super bright and clean and comfy, and we really liked the neighborhood. Kurt and Nathalie were very helpful and had great communication throughout. Their lovely dog is a bonus. We really appreciated all the thoughtful touches like good bath products and a stocked pantry. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

    Giordana2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time staying at Kurt & Nathalie's place. That should speak for itself. The location is great, it's super close to so many restaurants and boutiques while still managing to be quiet and relaxing. The neighborhood is very nice with lots of nicely kept craftsman style homes. It's more of a locals perspective of Portland versus staying in a hotel downtown. As far as Kurt and Nathalie go, they are such great people. They are fun to chat with and super friendly. They will offer recommendations when needed and do a great job of supplying all the necessities and more for your stay. The fridge and pantry were full of options and the toiletries were fully stocked. The place was also very clean. We will definitely be back to enjoy the experience of Portland from Kurt and Nathalie's place again!

    Matthew2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was the perfect spot for us to stay on our quick trip down to Portland. Excellent space, very clean and thoughtfully stocked with coffee, tea, fruit and Burt's bees toiletries. We were able to park in the driveway and access was quick and easy. The neighborhood has great restaurants just a couple minutes walk away. Nathalie and Kurt were very responsive and helpful even though we book at the very last minute. We will definitely recommend the studio to our friends and family for future stays.

NEW MURPHY BED with comfy mattress! Great little tiny house in a fantastic neighborhood. It is cozy and modern, with a great layout. It's a tiny, stand alone house with a private bathroom. Short Term Rental Permit Numb (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) -HO
Brand new, tiny-home style house. 200 sq ft. Covered porch. Full bath with standing tile shower. Full-size wall bed "Murphy bed" installed December 2015. Bamboo floors & reclaimed wood stairs. No kitchen, but has a microwave for heating up leftovers, water, or popcorn. Wifi. This is one block off Mississippi Ave, with many bars, restaurants, and one of the best coffee shops (Fresh Pot) in Portland. A block away from Amnesia Brewing and Grand Central bakery. 10 minute walk from the Yellow Line MAX (Overlook station.) Mississippi Studios is right down the street- a fantastic venue for local and traveling bands.

    Beatrice2014-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny House on Mississippi was cute, quaint, and very easy to walk to coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping. The neighborhood seemed quiet and safe. Parking was easy. My only feedback on improvement would be to bring any commodities that a hotel would normally provide including coffee, creamer, sugar, little bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Two towels and two hand towels were provided, and although that's plenty for us, I can see how someone may want more. For the price, I would think those same accommodations found in a hotel would be provided.

    Jessica2015-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was perfect! It had everything we needed to feel comfortable during our time there, and the foam mattress was very comfortable. There were tons of restaurants nearby and it also was close to the highway for when we wanted to head elsewhere. Also the internet is super fast, which was a nice bonus.

    Matt2016-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was a super charming place in a great, convenient location. It was walking distance from breweries, coffee, and restaurants. There was always street parking within a block of the place. I would bring some amenities with you though, since all was provided was a couple of stained towels and several half used travel size bottles of shampoo and body wash. There is no longer a bed in the loft (which was a bummer for us, we were excited about that), so you only have the pull out sofa bed (which was thin and not the most comfortable). Oh, and bring your own coffee/tea - there are cups and ways to brew, but no coffee/tea to make. Other then that, it was clean and modern, and we had a great stay.

    Cynthia2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at this tiny house on very short notice, is right in the Mississippi district, great walkability! I liked the layout of the tiny house, well setup (but no stove if you are wanting to actually cook, which I was not...) There was a slight check-in snafu probably due to my very short notice, the owner handled it quite well so all was good.

    EDGAR2014-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and good location!

    Brad2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • I've stayed at the little green house for a week. It was one of the best vacations I've ever had, thanks in part to this lovely house. Everything is super convenient, new and works well and it was a bliss to plan my adventures for the day sitting at the porch after having breakfast at the Big Egg food cart, located at a pod nearby. The neighborhood is amazing: many excellent restaurants, bars and food carts (don't miss the tacos at Porque No!) that require no more than a 10 minute walk; Mississippi Studios with great small concerts every night; easy access to public transportation... I was travelling by myself and got to know lots of people in the neighborhood (super safe and calm). The house was always the starting point: "oh, you're staying at the little kermit house, how fun" :) And Rick is a great host. Replies to everything fast, I had a small issue with the lock one day and he came on his bike to solve it in 15 minutes (it happened to be the batteries, changed promptly). Stay there! I plan to go back soon 3

    Camila2013-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the Little Green house. It pretty comfortably slept 4 people and was in a great neighborhood that had lots of shops and restaurants. It had pretty easy bus and Max access to the rest of Portland as well. We'd definitely stay again next time we're in town.

Our small (8X12) free-standing studio is light-filled, private and tucked away under the trees. With a comfortable queen-sized bed, microwave, mini-fridge electric kettle and table, you will be cozy here! Please note: The Tiny House does not have its own bathroom. Guests use a shared bathroom just inside the back door of our house (our family has a primary bathroom upstairs, but we use the downstairs bath occasionally. We keep it clean and use it minimally when guests are in the tiny house).
Our tiny house is a delightful retreat. While you do share a bathroom in the house, this outdoor studio will offer you great privacy. The tiny house is set up for you to be able to sleep and make coffee/tea and microwavable meals. There is a mini-fridge for your perishable foods, and microwave and electric kettle. There is a table which you can use for dining and also as your desk. Enjoy sipping a cup of locally roasted coffee (beans provided!) while you enjoy the peaceful trees in our 2/3 acre yard. Our backyard also has a large "pump track" that Joel made, as an enthusiastic mountain biker. Feel free to bring your mountain bikes and ride it! The tiny house is very small so we do not store many things in there, but we do have additional amenities available, including: extra pillows and blankets, extra fans and space heaters, hair dryer, curling iron, clothing iron, yoga mat, extra towels, kitchen utensils, tupperware and more. If there is something you need, just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate! Please Note: There is no kitchen or plumbing in the tiny house-it is small studio. It works best for guests who plan to eat out or prepare very simple foods with the microwave and mini fridge. We are happy to provide extra plates, silverware, etc. and if you need to wash a dish or two, just let us know and you can pop into our kitchen.
We live in Portland's Lents neighborhood, which is ethnically diverse and not yet gentrified. We are close to some lovely local nature preserves, including Leach Botanical Gardens and Powell Butte. We are also close to freeways, airport, parks and public transit. Please note: We are about 10 miles from downtown Portland and about 3-5 miles from the "hip" neighborhoods in SE Portland that have a lot of walkable attractions. If you have a car it is pretty easy to get around from here, but this is not the ideal neighborhood if you are hoping to walk to Portland's best spots without driving or taking the bus. You can walk to Safeway, Walgreens, and the closest bus stop very easily from here.
  • It was a wonderful experience. The tiny house was warm and comfy and homely, and there was the odd chicken roaming around the grounds too. Everything was clean and exactly as described in the listing, and the hosts helpful and full of advice for those new to the area. Would return again in an instant! Good tips for breakfast from Joel too!

  • This tiny house was clean and comfortable and exactly as described. It was small but well designed to be very functional and allowed for a great place to rest your head. Kate and Joel were welcoming and helpful while also offering me my own space during my stay. I hope to have the chance to stay here again in the future.

    Daniel2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kate and Joel's tiny home is truly a hidden gem. This was my first visit to Portland and I feel extremely fortunate to have found this cozy retreat. Kate and Joel were prompt and flexible with my arrival and departure, going so far as to provide a space heater and extra blankets ahead of time. The restroom in the back of their home is easily accessible and just on the other side of the door (for those who don't like confrontation or prefer a lot of privacy, this is ideal). Kate and Joel are urban farmers (I grew up on a farm, so this was idyllic) and so have they're own chickens and garden in the front yard (the chickens never woke me from sleeping). They also have two young children, both of whom are equally friendly. My only criticism is perhaps the temperature of the tiny home can be difficult to control. It was dipping near freezing during my stay and so, in bed (making use of the extra blankets and space heater), my body would sweat but my head with remain quite cold (then again, I'm a skinny guy). Regardless, the bed, pillows, and sheets are incredibly comfortable! Distance-wise, it's not super close to downtown (20 minutes away by car), but a relatively short drive to any desirable location. If you're looking for an affordable and quaint place to stay, do yourself a favor. Don't even hesitate. Thank you, Kate and Joel!

Magic Barn, circa 1936, former sculpture studio restored by community artists with old growth barn wood, up-cycled furnishings, kitchen, claw foot bath with a sculpture garden. Centrally located in the heart of a charming restaurant and boutique district; three blocks walking to both SE Hawthorne and Division St. Fifteen minutes to both the airport and downtown, there are four bus stops and rental bikes within three blocks, and ample street parking on our block. Built with Love!
From 2000 to 2015 the Magic Barn was Todji's sculpture studio. Most of the sculptures in the sculpture garden were designed right here and are exhibited for everyone to experience. When Todji first moved into the main house as a renter, the Magic Barn was just an empty crooked shed with no electricity, water or heat and it was filled with trash. Todji purchased the old neglected rental in 2004 when self-employed artists could get a loan, and after fifteen years of restoring the main house and the old "Barn", while building a career as a sculptor, Todji and Gisele decided to convert his studio into its own unit to host travelers and guests such as yourself. During the summer of 2015 Todji designed and built the Magic Barn with the talented carpenters and fine art painters Theo Holdt and TJ Ravenwolf. The interior wood siding are salvaged old growth barn planks, and the ceiling is made of the original 1936 rafters and sheathing. TJ’s painting is hanging above the couch. TJ is native American from the Alaskan tribes of Koyukon Athabaskan and Muscogee Creek. TJ collected all of the natural pigments in the painting from all around Oregon in prayer, and his prayer in painting now graces the Magic Barn. Todji and Gisele have taken on the profession of being Airbnb "Artist Inn Keepers" to help support the cultivation of their artistic practices, and to share their creative work with you. Todji and Gisele produce public art bronze sculpture monuments for US cities which you may already have seen, or that you may see one day, please feel free to take a postcard home and visit their sculpture website.
The Magic Barn is centrally located in one of the most beautiful and charming hip neighborhoods in Portland. With the center of both Hawthorne and Division St. within 3 blocks, there is an abundance of restaurants, grocery stores, neighborhood strolling, boutique browsing and hiking options within walking distance. See a movie, or just step in to witness the beautiful and iconic McMenamin's Bagdad theater, accompanied by an incredible restaurant/bar/pool hall in the back called the "Back Stage Bar", at SE 37th and Hawthorne. It will give you a feel for classic Portland! We are minutes from Mt Tabor park which has a lovely forest with walking trails sitting upon a dormant volcano, and we are 45 minutes to the spectacular 600 foot tall Multnomah waterfall in the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge scenic area. Division is the new up and coming Southeast neighborhood. With lots of modern architecture, new restaurants and shops you will get a feel for the freshest vibe Portland has to offer. Here is a list to get you started: Restaurants: (The options are endless but here are a few popular favorites!) Serving Food Late - Sapphire Hotel at 50th and Hawthorne, Romantic and sexy atmosphere- great for late night drinks and gourmet bar food. Stumptown Coffee Roasters- 45th and Division, Classic Great Portland Coffee Trinket- One block away on Lincoln and 39th, great for Brunch with their locally sourced eggs!) Harlow- 36th and Hawthorne, Hip and Healthy, great for lunch, or fresh veggie juice. Por Que No- 46th and Hawthorne, Wildly popular Mexican with a great playful decor. (Don’t be intimidated by the line, you order at the counter, and then get a seat and your order will be out in no time) Pok Pok- 32nd and Division, There are literally 11 Thai restaurants in walking distance, but Pok Pok is the best. Began as a food cart, but grew into a Restaurant Empire. Worth the wait. Bollywood Theater- 30th and Division, Indian food small plates. Also along line but worth it! Salt and Straw- 33rd and Division, Food Networks top five ice creams! Super Popular! Lauretta Jeans- 34th and Division, Breathtaking Pies! Tidbit Food Cart Pod, 28th and Division, Fabulous food cart selection, lots of seating, including a beer garden and vintage clothing bus. A truly Portland experience. Hiking: The website of "Friends of the Columbia Gorge" has detailed information about many hikes in the scenic and nearby Columbia River Gorge. It is a 45 minute drive from here to enter the gorge. Below are the names of hikes that we love and recommend. Check the website to find a hike with a distance and fitness level that suits you. For those who are visiting the gorge for the first time, I recommend visiting the most spectacular, and also the most touristicated, 600 foot Multnomah Falls. For those who want a challenging half day hike you can begin at Multnomah Falls and hike a loop called the Franklin Ridge Loop. Multnomah Falls /Franklin Ridge Loop Eagle Creek Angels Rest Bridal Veil Falls Triple Falls Wahkeena Falls Groceries, Pharmacy and Shopping: New Seasons- Local Health Food Store (40th and Hawthorne) Fred Meyers- Local Department/Grocery store (Cesar Chavez and Hawthorne) Rite Aid Pharmacy- Drugstore/pharmacy (Cesar Chavez and Division) Powell’s Books- A smaller version of Portland’s famous Bookstore (37th and Hawthorne) Gold Door- Wonderful Imports from around the world (37th and Hawthorne) Enjoy!
  • Great! Pretty easy to find. Parking on the side street was plentiful. Loved the space. They have done an amazing job with it. Central location was convenient for walking to great food and shopping. Close enough to downtown. And the art is awesome to check out!

  • The magic barn was exactly what it sounds like.. MAGICAL!! It's a little slice of heaven crafted by two extremely talented artists. It was the perfect get away for my wife and I. Todji was an amazing host and very welcoming. Him and his wife have very gentle and caring spirits! The magic barn is located very close to many great local restaurants and shops so you never have to drive. It was an all around great experience!

  • The Magic Barn is a work of art. Great thought and attention has been given to every detail. The space is beautiful and comfortable. Being set back behind the main house, far from the road, makes the Magic Barn feel private and secluded. You are close to busy neighborhoods but there's plenty of peace and quiet. Two different strips of hip and happening activity are a very short walk away. We found awesome shopping, coffee shops, and some of the best restaurants in Portland without getting in our car. The Magic Barn was worth every penny.

This private studio is truly one of a kind. Surrounded by natural beauty, this exquisitely-crafted and light-filled space is conveniently located to downtown and desired neighborhoods via car, light-rail, bus or bike. Truly a retreat in the city. City Permit #(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)-HO
This is an entirely private space on a large lush lot in Portland. It is surrounded by tall evergreens and a beautiful garden. It was built with hardwoods and has several skylights which provide both light (during the day) and a view of the sky and stars during the night. There is a small kitchen with a stove top, toaster oven and refrigerator. The tall ceilings, woodwork, and stonework make you feel like you are in a modern cabin situated in nature even though you are just 5 miles from downtown--which can be easily accessed by bus or train. Relax in our hammock, or spend time in the outdoor sauna.
North Tabor is a quiet neighborhood with big lots, wide roads and lots of trees. We are less than a 10 minute drive to downtown Portland and there are some great restaurants, coffee shops and a brewery within walking distance.
  • We couldn't ask for a better location for our trip to Portland. This backyard studio is located in a gorgeous little neighborhood filled with wildflowers and charming Portland homes, and plenty of parking if you need it. We used uber a lot which was around $10 to downtown. I especially enjoyed the short walk to Fred Meyer which was extremely convenient for beer and anything we needed. This studio is pretty private and we did not feel uncomfortable coming and going as we pleased. The backyard was beautiful and filled with more lovely flowers, which made my heart happy every morning that we woke up there. The studio itself is a work of art as you can see in the photos and the interior is just as beautiful with many natural wood and stone elements to match its surroundings. The loft is an interesting experience the first time you do it, but after a few times it wasn't so scary anymore. The sauna also worked great and is just as beautiful as the studio. Would recommend to anyone!

  • Jill's urban retreat was breathtaking! The decor is absolutely beautiful, and the space is expertly designed. They really put alot of love into this place, and it shows! The cherry on top was the cozy wood stove, where we made our own fire (with instructions left by Jill). We would stay again in a heartbeat!

  • Jill's tiny home was perfect for our Portland weekend. It did not feel small at all and it had everything we needed. It was $10-15 Uber away from downtown which was perfect and the Fred Meyer down the street was also super convenient. It was raining our entire trip but it sounded so nice on all the skylights in the place. Will definitely book this place again!

  • Our Host Jill was fantastic! The place was welcoming! She was honest about the description of the place. It was a joy and a delight to stay there and would happily do so again! It was so nice to have a fire and no T.V. We really were able to relax and unwind. She was very attentive to our needs and would recommend to family and friends!

  • Adorable, super clean home with warm, good vibes in an ideal location for my Portland work trip. It was centrally located for me to do business and squeeze in a couple hours of hiking at waterfall alley. Plenty of free parking, ample kitchen fully stocked w utensils and French press, very comfortable queen bed in loft, great water pressure and temp in shower. I wanted to use the sauna but was too busy. Donella was very accommodating when I needed an iron and ironing board. Will definitely be staying here again next chance I get!
