This private timber-framed guesthouse is a stone's throw from Seymour Lake and a ten minute drive from downtown Smithers. It has beautiful wood furnishings, a king-sized bed, a fully-stocked kitchen, and is situated on a large forested property. Perfect for: couples looking to get away from it all; those looking for a home base while taking advantage of the Bulkley Valley's world class hunting and fishing; and travellers looking to experience the Canadian wilderness.
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION. Important notes: No dogs. No small children. No breakfast provided. No wi-fi. Sorry. Seymour Lake is a tranquil getaway at the base of Smither's iconic Hudson Bay Mountain - home of our renowned downhill ski area. Our property is on the far side of the lake where the least development has occurred, allowing us (and you) to take full advantage of the calm beautiful natural surroundings. It is a ten minute drive from Smithers and half an hour commute from the local downhill ski area. Our guesthouse, while near our family's home, has its own private drive and will ensure that you too, can enjoy the lake and the surrounding area. It's a 600 square foot space with modern wood furnishings and kitchen complete with pots, pans and eating/drinking utensils. There are large windows allowing a lots of natural light, particularly in the evening. There is king sized bed and a hideaway couch that contains a double bed. The guesthouse style is an open loft and there are therefore not distinct bedrooms. The guesthouse is surrounded by a large forested property with many trails to walk should you feel adventurous. During the winter three sets of snowshoes will be provided. There is also a small gravel beach the guesthouse shares with the main house complete with a small dry sauna and a canoe. During the winter months there is (usually) a community skating oval ploughed by our neighbours on the lake. Sadly, this year the ice conditions have been less than ideal. As a result there is no skating on the lake as of yet (December 24th). Community skating rinks exist in town, however. Feel free to ask about them and we'll tell you where to find them. Skiing (both cross country and downhill) is a big deal in Smithers. Ask about local conditions and where to rent gear. If you're less adventurous we have a small library of books and a selection of board games that you can use during your stay.
Our neighbours are the moose, the bears and the birds. Staying at this guesthouse will get you right out into nature and you are welcome to travel through our neighbouring forest through the trails we've cut through over 200 acre property. A map of the property will be provided for your stay so you can go explore it yourself.

  • A beautiful, quiet retreat. I really enjoyed my coffee in the morning sitting out on the deck in early August. So peaceful. This is a place to rest, and restore, for sure! Thank you!

  • If you are looking for a pure get away home to stay this is it. Close to town, but immersed in the tranquility of the woods. A beautiful home to stay at with being surrounded by nature. Especially clean and so comfortable with all the provisions of home. Highly recommend this place to stay when visiting Smithers!

  • Great private location. Beautiful well equipped cabin. Wish we could have stayed the whole summer!

  • This spot is a gem. Almost a private lake to you and the loons, beautiful loft cabin with all the appliances, double-headed rainshower, washer/dryer, L-shaped porch, canoe, and a short trail down to the water and sauna. Stay here, you'll love it. Ten minutes drive into downtown Smithers.

  • We were delighted with our stay in this beautiful cottage on the Lake. It is absolutely the most perfect setting and one of the best Airbnb's I have been to! Our only regret was that we were only booked for one night - we wanted to stay there for the week! The cottage is clean, beautiful decorated and the ideal place to relax. It is also easy accessible once you know how to get there!

  • My significant other and I stayed here in snowy January. It was an absolutely stunning and beautiful cabin on Seymour Lake, which was not more than a 5-10 minute drive from downtown Smithers. We felt so welcomed here; the cabin itself was gorgeous and had all the necessities we needed to enjoy our weekend getaway. Since we were out of town and driving in the night, Liz was happy to drive us to the cabin from the main public roads. We had a small car that was able to easily get through the gravel roads because the area had been ploughed very well. Come Sunday morning, we didn't want to leave! This is the BEST place to stay in Smithers, for a winter or summer getaway. Highly, highly recommend!

  • Fantastic place to stay! Went to Smithers for a wedding and stayed with Kathy for a couple nights. Wonderful, friendly with an amazing house!

    Shaughnessu2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Arriving after driving six hours through a snow storm, Kathy's home was a safe and secure landing...only wished I had more time to spend there. Her home is very well suited for Air Bnb and she fits the mood as another perfect host. Really enjoyed exploring her winter wonderland back yard and encroaching ice flows of the Skeena River. The riparian zone is heavily used by wildlife and this year there is an amazing inundation of ice found in it's many river forms...could have spent all day there with a camera equipped with Kathy's insights into living along side the mighty Skeena River.

    James2016-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was a wonderful host and her house was perfect for my ski trip. I'm happy that our dogs got along and that we stayed in a house that wasn't far from Hudson Bay Mountain.

    Jamie2014-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great night at Kathys house. If you got time, stay more than one night in Smithers. There are some beautiful hikes around (even with a fully decorated christmas tree on the way to Malkow Lookout Point).

    Frank2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • My young daughter and I really enjoyed our stay at Kathy's home. The room was clean and bright and the beds were comfortable. We had a bathroom to ourselves right across the hall. We felt welcome to use the living room and kitchen area, and Kathy was friendly and interesting and able to make my shy child feel comfortable. She even took us for a walk to see the beaver dam at the back of the property and showed us around the river where we were able to find beaver and deer tracks, as well as beaver trees-- this was the highlight of our weekend in Smithers for my daughter! Kathy gave us advice about good places to eat in town, and other places to go for walks to see more beaver trees and "chuckings" as my daughter called them. Staying with Kathy ended up feeling like staying with a good friend and I am glad we were able to meet her; I would certainly stay at her home again in the future.

    Cara2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • I found Kathy's home to be quiet and peaceful and enjoyed the beautiful light that the windows in the main room offered. Kathy was quick to respond to my questions and gave me all the information I needed to find her home and expect the friendly neighbours who checked in with me right away. The home was clean and comfortable and the linens and towels were great, and I was grateful for the peaceful respite in the middle of a gruelling long workweek.

    Julie2016-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was very welcoming and friendly. Her place was exactly as we expected based on her listing. We had use of 3 bedrooms for our party of 5 as well as a spacious kitchen, dining, and living area. It was very comfortable and we felt at home right away. The space was clean and well-kept. We loved the funky interior colours and knick-knacks. Although Kathy used the living space as well, she deferred to us when we wanted to make our meals. We could come and go as we wished.

    Calvin2015-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Spent the night at Kathy's house on a long drive up north. Kathy was a wonderful host! She was very friendly and great to chat with. She was accommodating of my evening arrival. The house was clean and had everything I needed. The only downside was that I couldn't stay longer!!

    Claudia2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, quiet room with its own separate entrance and access to private restroom. Right across the street from the river walking path, which provided a nice walk after driving all day. As Phillipa said, most food places are in the nearby town, about a 7-8 minute drive away. The room was very clean, breakfast and coffee/tea available, and if you’re into yoga there’s a class every Tuesday and Thursday you’re welcome to join. Great place to recoup from road-tripping!

    Rachel2017-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Phillipa is a fantastic hostess. Her home is in a very beautiful location along the river. The bed is comfortably firm, a good self serve granola, yogurt , coffee breakfast. A private room and clean, well maintained bathroom.

    Wendy2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place! It was wonderful being able to have a good cup of coffee either on the veranda or by the river just across the street. A luscious garden surrounding a heritage home, a very comfortable bed, a spacious bathroom. Fridge and coffee maker in the room, nice granola with seeds and other toppings for breakfast. We were traveling from Williams Lake which had just received an evacuation alert due to the wild fires raging in the area. Phillipa was kind enough to contact us in order to offer that we come a day early and stay for free. Gracious and friendly hosts. We wish we could have stayed longer.

    Omid2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Cute! Clean! Convenient!

    Naomi2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, didn’t have a chance to talk to Phillipa in person but self check in was straightforward. Stayed just one night while traveling through. A lovely room with a picturesque garden right on the river among a strip of heritage homes. Much better than a cookie cutter hotel room n Smithers. Will definitely stay there again if I have the opportunity.

    Tannis2018-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures don't do this place justice! Phillipa is such a sweet person who welcomed us into her beautiful space. The yoga studio is to die for. Super dog friendly and a great place to eat and walk near by. The only thing I will say is the walls are fairly thin so we did feel the need to be quieter than normal. But would definitely recommend. Had great snacks!

Small suite, big views! Within 10 minutes of downtown Smithers, this small detached suite is privately nestled on seven acres of aspen forest. If you're visiting in summer, we're close to hiking trails and within five km of all the best local mountain biking. We're also 15 minutes of Hudson Bay Mountain ski area and a few kilometres of cross-country ski trails. This space is suited to singles, couples or small families, with a queen bed and option to put a mattress on the floor for children.
Located above our detached garage, this 300-square-foot suite has everything you need: a bathroom with shower, kitchenette with sink, hotplate, mini fridge and cooking utensils, an eating nook overlooking the valley, and a small wood stove. The queen-size bed it most comfortable for singles or couples, but we have a mattress for kiddos that are happy to sleep on the floor.
Close to lakes and hiking trails in summer, downhill and cross-country skiing in winter. This is as close as you will get to Hudson Bay Mountain ski resort without staying right at the hill!

    Indra2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Totally loved this place! It really is a cosy mountain hideaway. Amanda and Nick are lovely and will tell you about the best spots in town and things to do in the mountains.

    Theresa2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful stay here with our 4 year old daughter. This bnb is quiet, cozy, and scenic while also being just a short drive from town. Our host was very welcoming and accommodating and made for a very pleasant stay. We will be back again, thanks Amanda and Nick :)

    Leah2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda has a beautiful home. We stayed for one night, (wish it could have been two!) Very quiet and peaceful setting on the side of the mountain, under the trees. Amanda is a great host! Would definitely recommend her lovely place.

    Nanci2017-09-04T00:00:00Z

    Sylvie2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic little hideaway in a forested area. There were all kinds of hiking and biking trails nearby, which were outlined for us in a lengthy and helpful note when we arrived. The place was cozy and stocked with dishes and cooking equipment. Enough breakfast was even provided for our stay. We really enjoyed our time there.

    Katerina2017-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet and secluded, but easy and quick to get into town. We stayed nearly a full week and it was a pleasure to return this cozy cabin everyday. The cabin was small, but had everything we needed even for an extended stay. We enjoyed being able to take a short drive up the mountain to see the sunrise (or even through the cabin's window). The well water was delicious as was the homemade granola breakfast. We will definitely look at staying here again the next time we are in Smithers.

Annette&Robert
