We will meet up in Manarola, and after a quick visit of the village, which will be nice and quiet early in the morning, we will start our adventure by taking a deep breath and hiking up to Volastra, a wonderful hamlet as far off the beaten path as you can get in this area. The hike is straight uphill and it will make you sweat, we promise! There will be plenty of visual rewards along the path, though, because you will get the most spectacular views of Manarola and the sea, almost like you were a drone (only without flying off the rocks!). Then, after approximately 1 hour, we will reach our destination. And there, only there, will you feel like you have earned your well deserved wine tasting. We will drink the wine of one of the greatest local winemakers right on his vineyard while looking at the Mediterranean directly below, almost touching the sky and rejoicing in the power of nature.
After the wine tasting, our experience is finished. From Volastra, you can choose to continue on the trail to Corniglia, the next Cinque Terre town, go back down the trail to Manarola, or take the eco-bus down to Manarola at a cost of 2.50 per person.
Other things to note
Rain can be serious in the Cinque Terre, so if it is raining too heavily, or if the National Park issues a weather alert, we won't be able to do the hike. In that case, we will take the eco-bus up to Volastra at an additional cost of 2.50 per person.

Ciao everybody! We are a mixed couple: I, Erica, am Italian (born and raised in Parma) and Doug, my hubby, is an American who decided to spend his life in this crazy country.
One day we decided to leave everything behind and move our family to the Cinque Terre, which means that we see this stunning place through the eyes of people who know how lucky they are to be here!
We know every inch of every town and trail, but the real thrill of this experience is that we have the inside track on the best Cinque Terre wine, which we will enjoy from the best view on earth ... after you've earned it!

Wo ihr sein werdet
Volastra is a special place, one of the original settlements above the Cinque Terre, and so we're taking a breathtaking trail to this village in order to catch the vibe and the views up there. After grabbing some wine from Luciano Capellini's cellar (we're not allowed to go inside it this year, because of the anti-COVID safety restrictions), we'll walk out to his vineyard to taste his renowned wine while gazing on the Mediterranean below.

Doug was an awesome guide and - more than that - a person whose company you enjoy. The location is stunning, but learning about its history with a friendly and welcoming host made all the difference. We were fortunate enough to explore the local vineyards mid-harvest after our tasting - a unique experience for which we’re extremely grateful. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Wow - firstly, Doug the host was such a cool dude. He made the trip and we can't thank him enough for showing us cinque Terres wine and home town. We had the most amazing morning and I wish I could do that everyday. Secondly, this hike is not for the faint hearted so cut down on the pizza a few days before. All the best,

Super interesting to hear all of Doug’s in depth knowledge about the region and history. This added an extra level of understanding of the area to our trip and made it extra special!! Very smart to leave early from Manarola as it was hot and sweaty but totally worth it to get that lovely wine and explanations - and world class views. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for more knowledge and some new friends! Thanks Doug!

For us it was the end of our holiday in cinque Terre and it was great „summary“: short hike, vine and a breathtaking view :) all of it worth the steep stairs.
The Focaccia Erica brought was one of the best I tried during my time there.
Due to COVID we couldn’t go into the cellar but they built a cute little hut in the vineyard from where you have a great view on the sea!

Erica took us through a trial which had beautiful views of the sea and Manarola all along. On the way, we ate wild berries made some stops to hear interesting stories from her. At the end of the hike, we had wine with an absolutely amazing panoramic view of the Mediterranean sea. It was a lot of fun.
