Was ihr unternehmen werdet

You will be taken on an immediately friendly, factual, relaxed, under the skin tour of one of the world's great medieval cities. Using my extensive local guiding knowledge you will experience intimate areas of the city not normally shown to the public. You will see things largely unknown, surprisingly, to even its own citizenry! I will personally guide you through living history from Roman roots AD50, the Rougement Castle of William The Conqueror 1068, Northernhay Gardens, Englands very first public space 1612, Britains' narrowest street 14th century and the 2 great medieval halls 1130 and 1471 to which we will have unique access. Along the way we'll delve into 1680s witchcraft, when Exeter became the last place in England to execute witches, The Prayer Book Rebellion 1549, Norman Conquest 1060s, Insurrection 1497, Vikings 1003, both World Wars, Royal births and the Woollen Cloth Trade which paid for all of it and made Exeter the 3rd wealthiest city outside London. What I've described will be a full half day and I haven't even mentioned the great Cathedral nor the waterways... I am a very experienced guide and feel, that in order to best absorb a location enjoyably, that it should be broken down into manageable portions that can be easily assimilated, later, while relaxed, over food, ale, wine and good company. There is always time enough for more if required.
Other things to note
Please wear comfortable footwear and be prepared for the prevailing English weather. The less you carry, the better time you will have, so be prepared but not excessively. In the city everything is close at hand.

I've been leading around the world since 1980. My specialist areas are Exeter and Devon where I live but I have worked the Mediterranean from Crete to Seville and all places in between. I also lead The Camino De Santiago. I have worked at the highest level in all my professions teaching leadership, appreciation of history, culture and the health benefits of an engaging mind. However, I am happiest in the physical lead of small groups bringing landscapes and history to life for them. Frankly we are History as "History is the dead hand of the living" and it gives context to all our lives and mindsets. I have an infectious passion for simplifying the complex and communicating the vital. I tell factual, engaging and humourous tales to engage you, facilitate understanding and welcome questions as all I have ever learned started as a question!

Wo ihr sein werdet

We will visit William The Conquerors Rougement Castle (1068) The Historic Exeter Guildhall (1130) and Tuckers Hall (1471). These 3 classic locations will be woven together by the route through the centre of a great medieval city. You will see structures that have stood for 2000 years and buildings for half of that. You'll visit places where the newest part of the building was put on in 1590 just after the defeat of the Spanish Armada.
