Was ihr unternehmen werdet

We'll begin with a walk through Balmy Alley, where you'll learn about the vibrant cultural history of mural arts in San Francisco and get inspiration for our creative adventure. Our next stop will be the Precita Eyes studio, where we'll collaborate as a group to develop your mural theme, sketch out ideas, and begin painting what will become a beautiful, portable mural that will be hung at Airbnb!
Other things to note
Painting murals is messy! We do have smocks, but they will only cover part of your clothing, so we recommend that you wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting splattered with paint!

If you cannot make any of the scheduled dates, other times are available upon request.

I had the chance to walk with Patricia for an hour along Balmy Alley. Patricia was great: she explained everything about the murals, the tecniques and their meanings. Balmy Alley got a whole new meaning after her descriptions. I'm glad I had the chance to discover so much about the city and Mission neighbourhood through her words, and the works of art. I highly recommend this experience.

First, Precito Eyes is an amazing organization that does so many beautiful and empowering things for in the Mission District. Their murals are known to be some of the most evocative, expressive, beautiful street art in the world. The stories and the issues inside the murals are moving and inspiring and as relevant as the daily news. Knowing this, I was excited to get to be part of the esteemed Precita Eyes organization as part of my Bay area staycation. The whole thing included a tour with an intro to the many murals in the Mission District, then the opportunity to go to the nearby Precita Eyes studio and jump into the process of making our own mural - from concept, to images, to design and painting on a 5x5 fiberglass paper. Our own mini mural! I consider myself pretty awful at drawing, but Yuka worked with us in such an encouraging and affirming way, supporting the creation of our mural every step of the way. I can't believe all that was included in this experience and highly recommend it for individuals and couples. It would also would be great if a group of friends, a family or colleagues wanted to do this for fun, for a memorable occasion or around an issue that is important to share together. So if you can get a group together, even better, but as an individual doing this on my own, I had a fantastic time! Yuka and the Precita Eyes team have tons of experience and really know how to make it special for everyone involved.

This Mural Workshop has a lot of potential, however I noticed a few opportunities for improvement in the execution of it. On the day I attended the host Elaine was not present, two other people from the Murales Association Precita Eyes guided us through it. The tour to Balmy Alley didn't seem to be very much prepared. Indeed, I would have expected to receive deeper information and context on the murals we walked by, and how to read and interpret them. The murales workshop per se could have also used a better moderation and guidance, as there were different artistic levels in the room.

Elaine wasn't there to conduct the experience but Yuka and Carla did a good job hosting us! The street tour is amazing as we walk through a street of mural and Carla gave us a little history of it. I enjoyed myself :)

I moved to the bay area a year ago, so getting the chance to walk through Balmy Alley and learn about the rich heritage of the murals there and elsewhere in San Francisco was really incredible. The painting that followed was fun, but it definitely would have been a little cooler to have learned more technique, though I think with a group there's only so much you can do in a few hours! :) Very cool experience, and my wife and I stayed out in the Mission after to grab some amazing food, as well.

Elaine is a great host and artist, and has lot of info on the history of murals. I really enjoyed the tour she gave us at the start. It was also fun to do some hands on painting with the group.
