Was ihr unternehmen werdet
Before the day of the ride we'll talk a bit about what you'd like to do and see, your level of experience and fitness, and then tailor the ride to fit you and any other riders on the day. Usually we begin the day at my house in the leafy suburb of Flamengo, where we'll fit you to your bike, a 2019 Trek Marlin 5 mountain bike with Mega-range gears to help with climbing. If you bring your own clipless pedals we'll fit them before heading off, and you'll also get your helmet and a bottle of cold water for the ride. We'll then set off. The first section is on urban roads as we head to either Jardim Botanico or Larenjeiras, where we encounter the first climb into the forest. The climb is steep, and if you need we can stop riding and walk with the bikes. We'll stop at either Vista Chinesa or Morro da Dona Marta for some photos. For many guests, this is already a HUGE challenge and enough hill climbing for the day. Depending on how you feel, we can continue upwards, or take the beautiful downhill journey back home, stopping at a cafe on the way if you wish. Most of the ride is through the forest on sealed roads. There are some cobblestones on the descent towards the end of the ride, but no highly technical mountain-biking. The furthest we'll ride is around 35km, but with climbing, photo stops and a coffee break, it will take up to 5.5 hours.
I'm an Australian who has worked with bicycle and rickshaw projects in Australia, the UK, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Madagascar, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Bangladesh, Laos, and Nepal. Amongst other things, I founded an NGO in Namibia that has helped deliver more than 50,000 bicycles. We have created a network of community bicycle shops that has spread to other countries, and I'm currently working with a friend to help connect refugees in Brazil with bicycles. I've lived in Rio for 7 years, and one of the first things I did when I arrived was to take my mountain bike up into the Tijuca Forrest, the world's largest urban rainforest. I've since taken many friends to explore the network of roads through the forest, and like to visit this oasis in the city as much as possible.

Wo ihr sein werdet
There are a number of spectacular viewpoints in the forest, and we can stop as often as you like for photos. These include Vista Chinesa, Mesa do Imperador, Mirante Redentor, Mirante do Cristo and Mirante Dona Marta. We can also pass through Santa Teresa if you're in the mood to see one of Rio's most famous neighbourhoods from a different angle. On the way home we can stop for some food and a drink at a Boteco--a traditional Rio bar--or a cafe.
