Hello & Welcome to my tucked-away Bahamian cottage!
My place is on a quiet dead-end street in a residential neighborhood, and just a 7 min. walk to the bridges to Paradise Island!
Need help planning your trip? Ask me anything - I'm happy to help!
My place has 2 bedrooms available either separately, or together. Each one shares the kitchen, bathroom & living/dining area.
Make yourself at home & stay in a real Bahamian neighbourhood!
My place is a modest, clean, relaxed and friendly home with lots of space.
Sit on the front porch and watch for lizards (little ones, or the big curly tailed ones as well) and then there are often Bahama Parrots flying by - you'll hear them first - they're noisy!
There are 2 separate bedrooms available, with a shared bathroom. You can see them both in the photos - the "East" room is the one with the blue comforter, and the "West" room has the white comforter.
For one night rentals there is a $25 (1-2 people) or $35 (3-4 people) cleaning fee. No cleaning fee for rentals of 2 nights or more.

Captains' Cottage is a great design for privacy, especially when you book both bedrooms, as it is basically split in half - with one half for guests, and one half for your host & her husband.
The house is basically split in half - with one half for guests, and one half for your host & her husband.
You'll have a key to the front door and to your bedroom(s). You'll have full access (stove, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer) to a completely stocked, shared kitchen. You also have a semi-private living room and dining area - your hosts will share the kitchen with you, and the front door, but have their own half of the house with their own living room, bedroom and bathroom.
There's a big front porch - smoking is allowed on the front porch only. The back garden is where our dogs live, so this is is not a place for you to hang out, however the dogs are very friendly and you may visit with them if you like.

I'm from Nassau - I'm a local and I love it here. Any questions at all that you have about the area, just let me know, I'm more than happy to help.
I have lots of helpful tips, if you like - ask me any questions you can think of, see my Airbnb Guidebook here on this site, for a start, and ask me to send you some (or all) of my info-mega-messages! The topics on these include - beaching, downtown Nassau, Bahamian food, things to know about Nassau in general, how to get around, what to see on Paradise Island, and more....!!!!
Generally my husband & I will keep to our half of the house, except when we're using the kitchen, or coming home through the front door. We also value your privacy, so interaction is up to you!

Before you come - ask me to send you my info-mega-messages - over the past year I've written them about everything and they can really help with your pre-trip planning!
When you're here - have a look through my Captains' Cottage "Info/Welcome Book" - this is a work in progress but I have quite a lot of information in this so far, with everything from take-out menus, to descriptions of beaches - so check it out, and please sign a guest book page at the back of the book - thank you!
Barefoot House: Captains' Cottage is a barefoot house. We require all shoes taken off at the front door and left on the front porch, or inside the front door. This keeps our white tile floors as clean as possible!
Keeping cool: We have lots of a/c - there are ceiling fans and individual a/c window units in both of the rental bedrooms, as well as central a/c in the entire house. We usually decide when to run the central air, but you are free to use your own room's a/c units as you like (please turn them off when you are not home).
Pets: We do not have any pets inside the house. We do have 2 medium-sized dogs - Scarlett & Blue - but they live outside (and yes, they have a very nice dog house!) in the back yard. They're usually quiet, and very friendly, but since the entry to the home is through the front porch, you will only come in contact with the dogs if you want to!
Laundry: We do have a washer and dryer, in the host side of the house. If you would like to do laundry, you may, for a small fee ($5).
Kitchen: We have a complete kitchen and you are welcome to cook if you like. There are shared cupboards, as well as some that are off-limits, and an empty shelf in the fridge, and the pantry, for your groceries. You may use token amounts of staples, but in general, you should purchase your own supplies and replace anything you use.
House Rule #1 - Welcome! Make yourself at home, and if there's anything I can do for you, just ask!
Shoes: We have a barefoot house. Please remove your shoes when you come home and leave them on the front porch or inside the front door. This keeps our white tile floors as clean as possible. We've never had a pair taken from the front porch yet, but leave them inside overnight if they're special.
Smoking: this is allowed, but only on the front porch, or outside, and absolutely not inside the house.
Kitchen & cooking: Make yourself at home! Ask me to give you a little kitchen orientation before you get to cooking, and when you use the kitchen, please clean up after yourself. Generally I'm happy to share condiments e.g. salt, pepper, sugar, odds & ends of spices, cooking oil, foil, etc. but if you are cooking a lot, please replace anything you use a lot of - thanks.
Coffee: If you like coffee in the morning, let me know, we'll make more than we usually do, for you to have some too. If you think of it at the grocery store, and if you're here a while and drink lots of coffee, please buy a can to top up our supply - (we do Maxwell house ground coffee, regular) - thanks.
Drinking water & ice: We include drinking water, and ice, right from the fridge, just help yourself. Please do NOT use this ice to fill up a cooler - you can buy ice from the gas station nearby.
Eating: Please don't eat in the bedrooms - we don't have any overly friendly or hungry bug friends in the house, and we'd like to keep it that way!
Cleaning up in general: Please just try to leave the house in the about same condition as it was when you came.
Electricity: Is very expensive here in The Bahamas :( Please conserve energy by turning off all lights, fans and A/C when you go out.
Partying/noise: Simple... just try to respect the privacy of others living in the building. No loud music or partying late into the evening.
Pets: Pets are not allowed.
Sand: Please leave all sand outside (see towels).
Towels: We have lots of towels for you in your bathroom, and your own towel hooks over the back of your side of the bathroom door. Please take the green and white ones to the beach, and use the yellow ones at home for showering. We do not have hand towels or face towels, so if you would like these, bring your own. Shake out beach towels on the front grass when you get home, and hang them to dry over the chairs on the front porch. Please do not bring them inside unless they're completely dry and sand-free. We just want to try and keep salt and sand out of the house. If you need more towels, it is not a problem, just ask for new ones - we have lots.
Shampoo & body wash - help yourself.
The bath tub - was a bad purchase! It had oval shaped non skid patches, that are stained, not I assure you, they are not dirty. If anyone has any suggestions of how to get the stains off, I would love to hear them - so far I have tried chlorine bleach, Comet/Ajax, Snowbowl.... argh.

I was born and raised in The Bahamas, and love it - I have lived here all my life.
My husband and I own and operate a sailboat charter company - Barefoot Sailing Cruises - which keeps us very busy, along with traveling, and keeping up with our 3 grown children. And yes, if you sail with us while you're in town, we offer guests of Captains' Cottage a 20% discount on all of our cruises.
5 things I can't live without are - (this was an Airbnb suggestion) - my family, the turquoise water of the Bahamas, books, baking, the internet, and sailing. Oh, wait, that's 6 things.
I really like to travel, and also enjoy hosting other travelers, and sharing experiences. I'm happy to answer all questions, and share my love of Nassau, and the other islands of The Bahamas, with you. Favorite travel destinations? Switzerland, France, Costa Rica, Colorado and the Exuma Islands, and everywhere I haven't been yet...
