This is our main home. With original Edwardian features, including fireplaces in most rooms.

Located in the bustling West End of Glasgow in a quiet road with easy access to trains and local amenities this is the perfect space for your trip.

Our main door flat has traditional storm doors and an original stained glass inner front door. The flat is 2200 sq ft with lovingly restored original features in every room including feature fireplaces in the public rooms and bedrooms).

We have recently (spring 2015) installed oak flooring throughout which, as well as being beautiful, provides additional insulation. At the same time we installed a new central heating boiler and radiators with individual thermostats which ensure each room is as cosy of cool as you like.

The living room has a living flame gas fire, a Bose docking sound system (which can be moved between rooms) and a smart TV (i.e. you can access your own Netflix account) with Virgin cable and a DVD player (along with numerous DVDs for most tastes, including children). The living room, dining room and master bedroom have full length, lined silk curtains to keep the elements at bay in the winter, making the rooms even more cosy and luxurious when drawn.

The kitchen has marble worktops and hand crafted beech units, a belfast sink, gas hob, electric oven and a dishwasher. As keen cooks we have a preponderance of recipe books and cooking equipment which I hope will cover your needs! The kitchen also has a dining table which comfortably seats 6 and a utility room where you will find the washing machine, iron etc. and more baking utensils if you're in the mood. There is also a 'drinks fridge/freezer' as well as an integrated fridge/freezer.

The family bathroom is accessed through double doors inset with original stained glass and floor tiles and there is a shower room with a power shower and underfloor tiled heating.

There are three bedrooms with a super king, king and double beds and the sofa in the dining room converse to comfortable double bed (in the swankiest room in the house). All have storage space cleared for your use.

The hall was designed as a dining hall and provides great space for kids to play around in if you need some quiet grown up time.

You will have complete access to the whole flat including a private front door, a small from garden (evening drinks on the steps in summer is a local tradition!) and communal back garden with a patio which is a wee sun trap in the mornings.

Our family friend will be our host and will answer all questions you may have. We will be on the Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides but happy to take calls or answer e-mails (as and when we can pick them up)!

The 'leafy' West End of Glasgow is frequently described as 'vibrant' and 'bohemian' with our neighbourhood of Hyndland at its heart. The area's architecture, amenities and accessibility to the city centre, presence of the University of Glasgow, Gartnavel Hospitals, high performing public and private schools (Kelvinside Academy, Hyndland School, The High School of Glasgow, Jordanhill School, Glasgow Academy etc) and public parks (Botanic Gardens/ Kibble Palace, Victoria Park, Kelvingrove Park, Dawsholm Park etc) that gave Glasgow its "Dear Green Place" name make it an extremely popular residential area.

Byres Rd, the main thoroughfare linking Great Western Road to Dumbarton Road, is a convivial walk with its bars, restaurants, antique/boutique shops, bookshops, Waitrose, butchers, fishmongers and cheese shops (not to mention charity shops and the inevitable Estate Agents branches) is a 15 minute walk and adjacent to the University of Glasgow (est. 1452) with its spectacular panorama over Kelvingrove Art Galleries across Glasgow.

Some of our favourite neighbourhood bars, cafes, bistros, restaurants: Delizique (best homemade daily bread selection) and Cafezique, Cottiers (theatre, restaurant, bar), The Lismore (best whisky bar, often with live Scottish music), The Ubiquitous Chip, Brel, Booly Mardy's, Oran Mòr (lunchtime plays and very late night opening), Number 16, Two Fat Ladies, Nick's Bar (burgers and pizzas), Epicures Food Emporium, Caffe Parma, Hyndland Fox, Hyndland Cafe, Hotel du Vin. Too many others to mention, apart from the excellent James Allan, butchers 200 yards from the house.

The University of Glasgow is on the edge of the vast Kelvingrove Park, one of the many public parks which earn Glasgow it's name 'Dear Green Place'. Closer to the flat there are a range of parks including a toddler's swing park and a more adventurous park and outdoor gym within 5 minutes walk.

If you bring your car(s), free on street parking is available right outside (avoid the double yellow line - the hard working traffic wardens start their rounds at 8.00am prompt!). The West End is a 30 minutes drive from Loch Lomond National Park and the highlands of Scotland beyond, a must see!

A regular train service runs from Hyndland Station (just down the road on Queensborough Gardens) direct to Glasgow's Queen Street and Central Stations - trains run every 10 mins and the journey to either station takes 10 mins. From the same station you can also take direct trains to Edinburgh (90 mins); Milngavie - the start of the West Highland Way ( 20 mins); Helensburgh - Charles Rennie MacIntosh's Hill House ( 40 mins); Balloch - gateway to Loch Lomond National Park (35 mins).

Glasgow International airport is a 10 minute cab ride or drive from the flat and Glasgow Subway (aka the Clockwork Orange as it's a very simple loop!) either Hillhead or Kelvinhall stations is within 15 mins walk.

Black Cabs will collect you from the house (Glasgow Taxis (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN))
and can be hailed on the street - they are reasonable, safe and dependable.

Regular bus services run into Glasgow City Centre and beyond from Hyndland Road (2 minutes walk).

We seldom drive. Local, regional, national and international public transport links are frequent and convenient. I will have sent you directions for arrival by trains, planes and automobiles...

A few things to note;
Anna Mary will welcome you and show you around, her number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Ideally she will meet you around 4pm to let you into the apartment but can be flexible with some notice;
the 'sparker' for the gas hob does;t work, there's an electronic igniter in the top right hand drawer you an use;
an enthusiastic cleaner rubber off the guide points for the cooker - the instructions are in the same top right hand drawer;
the central heating thermostat is in the utility room, on the wall beside the window, controls overall temperature - there are individual thermostats on each radiator which is the best first place to modulate heating;
if there is an electricity short unlikely) there is a fuse box behind the cupboard door (between the large bathroom and the pink bedroom), simple push the ref switch back up and you'll be back in business.

We want you to be relaxed and enjoy our home. There are a few rules we'd ask you not to break:
please treat our home with consideration (take out your trash to the outside bins, leave the place as you found it etc);
please don't smoke - there are lots of fabrics which will soak up the smells (so we'll know if you do!), it's a fire hazard and think of the health benefits - if you need to smoke there is lots of room outside for smoking;
please do not bring your pets;
please do not have parties - sorry;
please do not wear heels in the house - the oak flooring doesn't like them - slippers are the future!; and
please consider the neighbours.

I have lived in this apartment for 10 years with my husband Donald and we are offering it as a Glasgow base to Air B&B travellers because we are going to renovate my husband's family home on the Isle of Harris, Western Isles.

We have both lived and worked overseas and consequently tend not to stay in hotels when we're on holiday as we much prefer the flexibility and enhanced local experience of living in apartments.

We both love travelling (predominantly Europe and the islands of Scotland), walking, reading, cooking and spending copious amounts of time with family and friends. I also run, reluctantly, but it allows me to do the 'cooking and spending copious amounts of time...' bit.

We're very proud of Glasgow which is a famously friendly, beautiful and engaging city. In the West End where we live there are many cafes, bars and restaurants that we which we take advantage of regularly. Having benefitted from comprehensive recommendations from Air B&B hosts when we travel, we have developed a package of suggestions for you when you stay in our home.

We really hope that our enjoy our home, we love it and share it frequently with friends and family - we hope you'll enjoy staying here as much as we do.
