Very-well-equipped two-bedroom cottage in Volcano Village, Hawai'i, in the upland rainforest at cool 3850-foot elevation. Full kitchen for meal prep, all linens, heated rooms, cable TV, wireless HS internet. Your hosts are your neighbors and guides.
Kahi Malu has been renovated over the years since 2000, with a different project almost every year. One thing we haven't changed is the beautiful hardwood floor. We provide house slippers for bare feet (guests are asked to remove shoes at the entry door, Hawai'i-style); slippers are disinfected between uses! Besides the various breakfast foods in the well-equipped kitchen, there are also supplies (paper products, first-aid items, electric hair dryer, shampoos & conditioners) in the bathroom, besides all bath and hand towels and washcloths. Our guests have felt at home in Kahi Malu for sixteen years; many have returned numerous times. Our guests have taught us how to be better hosts, including making suggestions for items they'd like to have provided for their use.

Weitere wichtige Infos
Kahi Malu is in the village of Volcano, on the "Big Island" of Hawai'i, about twenty-six miles from the town of Hilo, on the east, Windward side of the island. The village roads are almost all paved. There are seven eateries in Volcano, now, for various dining-out options; there is also a farmers' market at the community center in the village on Sundays. Kahi Malu has its own parking space, near the cottage. There is a laundry room, behind Kahi Malu, which guests are welcome to use in the afternoons or evenings.
Our guests have almost always come to stay in Volcano, because they are here to explore HVNP and perhaps the black-sand beach and green-sand beach, among other places. They do not come to have parties, so, we have never had to explain that our quiet neighborhood appreciates peace and quiet; they have understood that, without rules being imposed.
• No pets
• No smoking inside the cottage (only on the covered porch or lanai, where the breeze will blow away the smoke); place butts in outside container
I have lived in Volcano Village for over thirty-two years, but first came to Volcano in 1953, as a child, and visited Volcano, with my family, every few years, during the Summertime. I moved to Volcano in 1983. We've been offering vacation-rental lodgings, in our own cottages, for just over twenty years.
We host our cottages, making them homes-away-from-home, well equipped and stocked with the less perishable breakfast foods, with movies and documentaries about HVNP on DVD, with books and maps about the island and HVNP. I greet guests, after they check in, and give them a tour of their cottage and tell them about the HVNP and the east side of the island, to maximize their touring opportunities here.
We live across from the cottages' property and are available if guests have questions or requests, but we respect their privacy and do not knock on their cottage door, once they've been greeted and settled in, unless they ask for advice or aid.
