Beschreibung

This quiet city retreat, in a beautiful Georgian apartment in the West End, is a five minute walk from Princes Street and the foot of Edinburgh Castle.

You'll have the best of both worlds, staying in the middle of the Georgian New Town with all the benefits of local restaurants and shopping but also having a luxurious, elegant, high-ceilinged space in which to relax and recharge.

The jewel of this apartment is the huge living room. As the photos show, it is a grand space with a magnificent bay window that looks out over an amazing view of Edinburgh, Stockbridge, the Firth of Forth and across to the Kingdom of Fife (the next county).

When you look down you'll see the Water of Leith river at the bottom of the gorge, spanned by the magnificent Dean Bridge.

Built originally as a single Town House in the 1800s, the building was divided into three apartments in the early 1900s and our apartment is on the first floor.

Additional to the beautiful living room is a gracious bedroom, complete with king sized bed, drawers and wardrobe space, looking on to the street through a massive window with double glazing.

The kitchen has everything you need including an induction hob, electric oven, fridge, washing machine and necessities such as tea, coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper and sugar.

The bathroom is freshly renovated with the large shower, sink and toilet all newly replaced.

Access to the secure flat is via a shared front door and stair. I'll meet you when you arrive to show you around the flat, and give you the keys.

I'll meet you when you arrive and love sharing tips and ideas about what to do while you're staying in Edinburgh. I've put together a guide to the restaurants, cafes and shops nearby, together with suggested walks so that you don't miss out on any of Edinburgh's hidden gems.

Edinburgh's historic West End forms a large part of the historic New Town area, built in the 1700 and 1800s when the population outgrew the medieval Old Town.

Walking distance from all the main city sights, the area comprises both the wide, grand avenues of Georgian Town Houses and the small lanes of boutiques, eateries and pubs.

The apartment is located three blocks from Princes Street, the main street of the New Town and a 5 minute walk from George Street which offers prestige brand shopping as well as excellent restaurants.

Within 5 minutes you can walk to one of the city's best farmers markets, held each Saturday at the foot of Edinburgh Castle. A 10 minute walk to the village of Stockbridge is also highly recommended and offers a wide variety of restaurants, pubs and shops, plus a market on Sundays.

Walking is by far the easiest way to get around Edinburgh and our apartment is close to all the main sights.

Haymarket railway station is around a 10 minute walk away, and Waverley Station around 15 minutes walk - or a very short taxi ride! The 'Princes Street West End' tram station is a 10 minute walk away, as is the bus that also takes you to Edinburgh airport.

Our friend who owns the flat stays there regularly and so it is furnished and looked after as a home. There are antiques, books, art works and personal items that you are welcome to enjoy, and asked to treat respectfully.

There is a lovely old grandfather clock that chimes on the hour, and cannot be silenced without damaging the mechanism.

I'm an Aussie who came to Edinburgh for 12 months back in 2008 and have been here ever since. I love Edinburgh and think it is one of the great cities of the world. Small enough to be friendly and walkable, big enough to have a world class festival - and just a short flight to Europe. Love it!

I'm also passionate about the highlands and islands - I'm gradually seeing them all and am always happy to share my experiences and recommendations. My current goal is to go to St Kilda - so remote, so many birds and so much history!
