Der Wohnraum

Just steps from the island's most famous sunset beach and the dock where fishermen unload and sell their fresh catch, this little cottage is a piece of Vineyard history, perfect for a totally relaxing family summer. This is the place for those who value antique charm over modern luxury and casual cosiness over extravagant opulence. It comes with access to passes for the islands top beaches, Lucy Vincent and Sqibnocket. There's a kayak so you can explore the ponds, outdoor furniture and a Weber.

You will have the whole property--cottage, 2 bed bunkhouse, garden. Parking for one car, but if you don't want to hassle with getting a car on the ferry, the bus service is great and many fun activities, including Menemsha Beach, which is kid-heaven for its calm waters and shell collecting possibilities, and has lifeguards-- are an easy walk.

Firstly, Geraldine's cottage front porch, back yard and master bedroom window all have their own direct view of the glorious, coveted Menemsha sunsets! As well, the location in the Menemsha Hills is centrally located - 3 minutes walk to the General store and the Galley restaurant which has the best clam chowder on island! Best oysters on island are also a short walk into the Vilkage at Stanley and Lynette's Menemsha Fish Market, whose service and quality are impeccable! The soft sound of the harbour bell lulled me to sleep surrounded by the healing salt water air wafting through the beautiful cross ventilation of the cottages. The set up can easily accommodate 6 people including two in the small cottage outback, which is delightful. The cottage is full of interesting books in all of the books and cranneys. The cottage was clean, and well appointed with every kitchen tool and beach need one could want. Outdoor shower - fabulous. Geraldine is a stellar communicator, kind and caring host and was immediately responsive to any of my questions. I left the cottage feeling more peaceful, grounded and healed. If you have an appreciation for history and being immersed in an old cottage timeless feel, this cottage is a treasure! I will be back!

This is a simple, old Vineyard home in an incredible location. Our kids loved being able to roam freely around Menemsha. We loved grilling fish or bringing home cooked lobsters and dining in the garden. The owner could not have been kinder or more accommodating. It was a magical week.

We had a great week at Basin View! Lovely cottage with fantastic views of Menemsha Harbor. My daughter loved the independence of staying in the bunkhouse. Very charming. Would stay again.

It was the highlight of my summer to spend a week at this gem of a cottage, with the heart and soul of Menemsha still beautifully apparent in its 1940's bones. Simple, so comfortable, functional, well equipped, with touches of home and breathtaking views from the porch and upstairs bedroom & bathroom. It was an absolute treat, rain, fog or shine. The hospitality couldn't have been warmer, and I very much look forward to making a stay at this Menemsha cottage an annual habit!

I've been visiting Menemsha with my parents for over thirty years. This year our expanding family required a bit more space of our own and Geraldine's house was the perfect spot. It had all the charm we look for in an old house in a tiny fishing village, as well as all the conveniences to make for an easy and comfortable stay. Our two weeks included sunny days perfect for the beach or sitting on the beautiful porch, rainy days for curling up with a book on one of the many daybeds or rocking chairs, and windy days for listening to the tossing leaves of the huge maple tree in the front yard. In any weather, the view from almost every window can make your heart skip a beat. If you're hoping for luxury accommodations in chrome and marble, you'd better keep looking, but if you want to be immersed in the simple, beautiful life of one of New England's most perfect fishing villages, you could not do better than Geraldine's place.

Head down into Menemsha, drink in the bright blue water view, turn right at the general store and find the cottage at the top of the hill. As described, there is nothing fancy here but sitting on the porch, peeking into the life of the harbor below, is priceless. My family - 3 adults and 2 children- was very comfortable here. I slept in the bunkhouse and loved it. There is no central heat but the many space heaters kept us warm and cozy. They were especially needed on the stormy night when the winds rose to 50 mph. The owner kept in touch with us via email assuring us if there was anything we needed we could contact her. We weren't able to find the beach chairs, but being October, this wasn't a problem. No nothing fancy, but a gem of a spot in a gem of a town.

We stayed here for a week with our 2.5 year old daughter and it was a lovely vacation. The cottage is quaint and charming with beautiful views of the water and the sunset. Our daughter especially enjoyed playing in the large yard. The location is perfect - walking distance to everything in Menemsha, including the very child-friendly beach and all the delicious seafood eateries. We enjoyed taking the bike ferry across the inlet for bike adventures in Aquinnah. We also biked to nearby ocean beaches in Chilmark. We loved the cottage and are already plotting our return.
