The villa is a gem, tucked away up the mountain side. It is an adventure to get to, and fun to stay in. There is plenty to see right around the villa, and its close to many beaches, parks, and things to do and see. Having Laundry facilities is amazing if you are doing active thin…
Unless you are 100% comfortable with bugs (large cockroaches, moths, beetles, etc...typical bugs for the jungle) this is not a good housing option. There are multiple holes in the screen so bugs came and went freely. We were glad we were only here for 3 days. Once the sun goes do…

I alway's send a very detailed e-mail with lots of tips and tricks. One of the thing's in that e-mail states how to minimize the bugs coming into the house.. for example leaving the lights on outside in the evening so the bugs stay outside and when you're ready to go to sleep there are 2 bug lights (one in each bedroom) that will zap the remainder of the bugs so you are ready for a bug free nights sleep. I've stayed in the Villa for a month at a time and never had a problem with bugs. And yes the wifi only works with laptops or possibly a 2G network cell phone as that entire area only has a 2G network cell tower. Laptop's definitely work the best.
This place is a unique experience for the adventurous and fit traveler. We booked for a week and it was too long.-- this is a great place to stay for a few days. The stairs are quite steep and there a lot of them (96), I definitely recommend packing light or trying to bring in o…

This place is a fantastic place but I guess it does depend on the traveller. I have had people stay there a month or two weeks and didn't want to leave because they loved it so much. I do suggest to people to generally stay at a few places along the coast or in the mountains so people get the full exposure of everything Costa Rica has to offer. There are several stairs down to the house, which I mention in my airbnb listing, so it may not be suitable for people with hip problems or trouble with stairs. You just need to take a few trips in bring all your stuff down which is kind of a nice thing about staying for a longer period as you don't feel like you're constantly taking things up and down the stairs. March and April are the hottest months and I plan to purchase a couple of fans for the 2nd bedroom as right now there is only one fan in the main bedroom upstairs. The rest of the year does get quite cool at night, that's why the blankets and comforters are provided. There shouldn't be a bug problem at all as I find if you leave the outside lights on only and no inside lights when it gets dark and then about 1/2 an hour before you go to bed turn on the two bug lights provided (one in each bedroom), there is no problem with bugs at night. I have a mosquito net provided but I have had many people tell me they didn't need to use it because the bug lights just zap the bugs before you go to bed and are very effective. It's not a good idea to leave the outside lights on all night as this will attract more bugs to the screened walls. Only keep them on until you're ready for bed and then turn on the bug lights and you'll be good to go fr the night, bug free:) As for the distance to the airport, it is approximately a 3 hour drive from the San Jose airport or if you fly into Quepos it's only a 40 minute drive. If you click on the map on my listing for the location, it clearly states it's in Savegre (Baru) in the gated community of Cascada Azul and if you zoom out on the map you can see where all the airports are including San Jose as well as where Quepos is and Liberia, if you zoom out far enough. Also, I had a sign at the entrance of the driveway for "Waterfall Villa" and an arrow pointing in the direction but it must have fallen down.. I'm having that taken care of as I type this. The internet is spotty but unfortunately that's the entire area. It's currently a 2G network and they are supposed to be upgrading the cell tower to a 4G but I have no idea when that will be. It's best to print off the email I send you with all the gate codes and wifi password as well as any instructions before you leave.. this way you have everything right there. I'm very detailed in my instructions and places in the area to buy food and restaurants like El Chicote 5 min. away right off the main road and as Aicila mentioned Rancho Los Compayres just up on top of the mountain past the Cascada Azul gate. I also give people my website which has tons of tourist attractions in the area and restaurants, as well as fantastic day trips of places slightly further away. Hopefully this clears up any of the problems Aicila may have encountered and those issues can quite easily be fixed. Also, if you are having problems with anything while you are staying at a specific place, just ask your host and we're more than happy to help in any way we can. I had no idea Aicila was having issues with the bugs and was leaving the lights on all night...if I had known I would've helped her out by explaining a before bed process which works fantastic. Anyway, next time just ask your host and you'll have a much more pleasant stay:) Sincerely, Courtney Gill Waterfall Villa & Jungle Retreat Host
