I work during the day and most times I'm travelling to other various locations such as yours. While I am away from the house I will happily provide you with information about getting around and what exciting things are currently happening on the island and on those nearby. There is always someone at the house, whether it is myself, or my mother or sister....the warm, welcoming hospitality is always there.

We had a wonderfull stay at Urika's place. We were hosted by her mom who made us feel comfortable right away by cooking us a nice dinner after we arrived from a long boat trip. She is a very friendly lady and very easy going and welcoming. Urika has also been very helpfull with advices on where to go around the island. The location is central in Union Island and therefore a good starting point to any hike and beach. By van it is only 10 minutes to Clifton (or a 30 minute walk), where most of the activities and restaurants are. The rooms look exactly as on the pictures and were clean and cosy. Good place to stay, especially compared to the expensive prices of the rest of the Island!

Urika's place is in Ashton. If you want to experience the local way of life this is the place. Urika's mother Pam was a wonderful host and introduced us to some very nice people in the village. There are buses into the main town of Clifton where it is more touristy. There are lots of bars and restaurants as well as some great swimming beaches. There is no hot water in the house but the warmth of Pam and her family more than made up for it. Many thanks

A wonderful, friendly welcome to Union Island. Urika was out of town when we stayed, but her mom, Pam was the hostess with the mostess! She checked us in late at night (our boat was very delayed), and knowing that we'd probably be hungry from a long day of travel, she went out of her way to cook supper for us, and bought some fresh local fruits and juice for the morning. It was also a bad time for mosquitoes during our stay, so she bought sprays, bug matts and a mosquito net for the bed to ensure we were comfortable. Could you really ask for more?! Pam knows EVERYBODY on the island, so arranging early morning rides to the ferry, advising on the best charters, restaurants, hiking was easy for her, which made it easy for us. We have nothing but positive praise for Urika and Pam. We also liked our room, but with a few tips we can help you ensure your expectations are accurate before you arrive. The room was clean, and the queen size bed was very comfortable (a rare occurrence for Air BnB's at this price range). Although there were lot's of dressers in the room, they were all full so there wasn't much space to put our own clothes. We shared this suggestion with Pam already, and given her awesome hosting i'm sure she'll make sure there is more room in the future :) WiFi strength was great (surprising for an island) and the room had a private entrance, which was nice. During the dry season (when we went) water is very scarce on the island. So water pressure is very low in the shower, and it's wise to take quick showers, flush sparingly, and clean dishes in a wash bowl in the sink rather than running water. If you like ultra strong pressure hot water showers this is not the place for you - but if you're ok with a cool quick shower, it's more than fine! (The best way to get refreshed is the many beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters anyways). You have to catch a bus (2 ECD per person) to get into town (Clifton), but we never had an issue catching one, even late Sunday nights. They are less frequent later at night, but you'll eventually get one. There are no street names and house numbers on the island, so always keep landmarks in mind to find your way back home. Just tell the bus driver to drop you off at the "Discount & Trade Hardware Store", or by the Karaoke Bar which is just down the block. Besides fending off the mosquitoes while we were out, it was a friendly place to stay, with everyone being very welcoming. The island is definitely worth the trip! (Don't forget to visit Happy Island) - Martin & Heidi P.S. We'll post some blog (EMAIL HIDDEN) soon with more island info - so stay tuned! :)
