This 3300-sq. ft. home in a centrally located, historic neighborhood is the ultimate Derby City getaway. You get tons of room in a stylish, comfortable house a quick hop to downtown, great bars & restaurants, and Louisville's can't-miss spots. This house is made for groups, with plenty of private and communal spaces for relaxing and gathering, plus an enclosed courtyard. With a national food & travel writer as host you'll get insider tips on how to make the most of your stay in bourbon country.
This rambling, beautiful home has the perks of its 1890 build -- we've got your hardwood floors and pocket doors, eight(!) fireplaces, 11-foot ceilings, clawfoot tub, and all the gorgeous architectural details you'd expect from a home built in 1890.
But as the home of two incurable travelers, the style is inspired by our jaunts around the globe with a mix of antiques, and funky and whimsical finds – and it's updated with the modern must-haves (central air was our first project!). Overall, it's a home meant to spark delight.
What does that look like? Well, see that mid-century foyer table? Flip the lid for a blackjack table or remove it for roulette and craps. The bourbon bar was a schoolteacher's mailbox in a former life. Our kitchen island was custom built by a local artisan of salvaged Kentucky woods and topped with a Paris cafe-inspired zinc counter. A vintage military field desk serves as a dresser, meanwhile that gorgeous tiger oak bureau in the grand entry has been in the family for generations. The unifying element: an emphasis on comfort, fun, and intrigue.
The first two floors (aka "the main house") are yours. The third floor (with its own outside entrance) may be occupied, either by us and our two dogs, or other Airbnb guests. The main house includes:
-Living room (parlor if you're fancy) with a small TV and elegant but comfy seating
-Dining room with antique Gothic style table seating six
-Fully outfitted kitchen ready for you to whip up a meal (we can steer you to where to find the best local ingredients) and another small TV for catching up on news
--Bar with accoutrements for mixology enthusiasts (just add bourbon –- and I can direct you to the shops with the best selection)
-Choose your own adventure mini home casino in the foyer (or hey, it can just be a stylish table with a secret)
-Bathroom with six-foot soaking clawfoot tub with shower
-Small desk with charging station in the hall
-Roomy bedroom with a king sized Tuft & Needle mattress (this room opens to the courtyard)
-And a courtyard outside with Weber grill, plenty of seating, and lots of fairy lights. This may be shared with upstairs guests or us, if we're staying on the third floor.
-Big bedroom with super comfortable double pillowtop king sized bed
-Small adjoining library with room for a queen sized air mattress (and with closet space for you)
-Sitting room with big TV and a Rowe sleeper sofa (more comfortable than their bed at home, some guests have told us!)
-Adjoining laundry/dressing room (with closet space for you)
-Bathroom with step-in shower
Zugang für Gäste
You have the run of the main house – that's 3300 square feet on the first two floors – and shared access to the courtyard out back (enclosed by privacy fence and our carriage house). You'll have access to all the essentials and then some (cook on the pro-style gas range with our prized French copper if you like; listen to your music on the awesome bluetooth Marshall speaker; in general make yourself at home. Just add bourbon!)

During your stay we may move upstairs to our third floor flat with our dogs (or sometimes we leave town). You don't have to see us unless you're just sociable like that, and we definitely don't come into the main house unless invited. It's *your* house while you're here. You may see us and the dogs in the courtyard or in the general outside area when we take them out, but we respect your privacy.
That said, if you're up for a chat we love meeting guests. And we're available by call or text if you have questions or are looking for suggestions. We're happy to show you around when you arrive and sit down to talk Louisville and fun things to do (we've even been known to take guests on an impromptu tour around town), but can also leave you to your own devices if you prefer.

The house sleeps six in 'real' beds (two kings and a sleeper sofa) and one or two more on an air mattress we set up in the small library with one more place on the comfy couch in the living room.,
This is our home, but we turn the house over to you for your stay. Our family includes two dogs, and though the house will be professionally cleaned before you stay, if you have pet allergies this will not be your best fit.
We're in an urban area, on a corner with a traffic light, and a bus stop across the street. There's fairly steady auto traffic, a good bit of foot traffic, and all the sights and sounds that entails. It's also a pretty tight-knit community with an active neighborhood association (you're staying at the home of the association secretary:) all committed to making and keeping this a great place to live. They are supportive of our Airbnb efforts, and we ask guests to be respectful in turn.
Sound great but more than you need? We can also rent our two to three-person third floor flat (while we stay in the main house). Check out Vertigo Louisville if you need a more intimate-sized space. Or if you have a really large group, book the ENTIRE house - send me a note and we'll chat.
We offer discounts for longer stays! Enter your dates in the calendar to see the lower prices for 4 day stays and longer.
And get an inside look at the house, the neighborhoods, and our adventures with our pups in bourbon country and beyond on insta gram at VertigoLouisville.
This is our home, so please treat it like you'd want your home to be taken care of. For us, that means no smoking, be gentle with the old dame, and definitely no parties. Be respectful of the neighbors and our community, as well.

I'm a freelance writer -- food, travel, bourbon, adventure, and anything else that catches my fancy -- and one of Airbnb's longest tenured superhosts.
My husband and I call Louisville home when we're not exploring the world. We love sharing our city with travelers and are excited to help them make the most of a stay in bourbon country, whether it's a two-person getaway to our third floor writer's flat, or a friend's gathering in our big, rambling Victorian.
