A unique, small home on 2 acres, in a peaceful setting with an attractive natural outlook and surrounds. It's located 4km inland from Hokitika, and is a great place to relax and unwind.

I have 3 tame pet sheep who free range around the property. Popcorn (big white one) is generally happy to meet people and be patted, and will come inside if you let her (please don't! lol )

Die Unterkunft
One private bedroom with a double bed. Open plan kitchen/lounge with a pleasant natural outlook. Rustic bathroom with shower over bath.

Zugang für Gäste
You will usually have exclusive use of the whole house, as I sleep in a separate hut away from the house.

Kitchen facilities are available for your use - hotplates for cooking, a kettle, toaster and mini-oven. Plates, mugs, cutlery, pots, and utensils are provided. No microwave.

No wifi sorry, but you are welcome to use the the internet on my laptop if you want to. There is cellphone coverage, and free wifi at Westland District Library on Sewell St in Hokitika township

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Breakfast
I don't usually provide breakfast because most people bring their own food. If you'd like me to provide breakfast supplies, please let me know when you book. There are tea, coffee, herb tea, milk and jam here for your use

Expectations
Please note that this is a down-to-earth, character home in a rural setting. You will encounter sheep poo! It might be best to leave your best shoes in the car

Weather
The West Coast is known for its high rainfall. Summer is usually a great time to visit, but it's a good idea to bring a jacket and mosquito repellent to help make the most of your time here

Children/extras
It may be ok for children and/or extras to stay too - please enquire. I have a couple of stretchers that can be set up in the lounge.

Lage

Kaniere, West Coast, Neuseeland

The West Coast is one of the most natural, untouched parts of New Zealand and there are many opportunities to explore. We have beautiful lakes, rivers, beaches and native forest. There are nice bush walks at both Lake Kaniere and Lake Mahinapua. There is also a popular cycle trail. Please ask me or the i-Site about places you can visit

When doing longer walks, make sure you have suitable shoes, a waterproof jacket, drink bottle, snacks and take mosquito repellent. In summer, wear a hat, cover up and use sunscreen to avoid sunburn. A lightweight long-sleeved shirt with a collar is a good way to protect yourself from the summer sun. Sometimes the West Coast can experience wet weather. To make the most of your time here, I recommend that you have a waterproof raincoat so that you can still explore the area if it's raining.

Other Hokitika highlights: Fat Pipi's Pizza, Sweet Alice fruit icecreams and fudge, Hokitika beach near the river mouth at Sunset Point, Wilderness Gallery - amazing photographs of local scenery, Treetop Walkway

I enjoy a simple, peaceful lifestyle on 2 acres of land near Hokitika. I have 2 shy cats and three pet sheep Popcorn, Aleppo and Dakota. Comments from people who have stayed with me: "Merryn lives in a little paradise with Popcorn the sheep. Her house is so cute and comfortable and she knows all the great spots around. We felt at home for the two nights we spent there and wish we have stayed longer. " "We loved staying at Merryn's place! It was a nice home and great place to rest. Reading our books and watch Popcorn in the garden was awesome. Thanks!!" "We enjoyed staying with Merryn for 2 days a lot. She has been giving us a warm welcome and its been always interesting talking to her. Merryn knows a lot about the area and gives good advice for walks nearby. We loved her cosy house and the beautiful garden as well as hanging around with her adorable sheep Popcorn." "Merryn is a really kind person and I felt really welcome at her place. She has a really cute sheep, which is really friendly towards visitors and she has a lot of knowledge about the surrounding area, especially when it comes to hiking/ tramping." "We spent a couple of happy days in Merryn's cottage. The place is charming, the pet sheep super cute, and Merryn herself extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area." "We stayed with Merryn for two nights. She lives a different lifestyle, but it's so interesting to talk to her about that. We loved her sheep Popcorn and her huge garden. Thanks so much Merryn!"
