A unique opportunity to stay in an historic building in the city centre. This spacious Georgian New Town basement flat has modern facilities for a comfortable stay. Its position allows easy access to the main attractions, restaurants and shops. It is well served by buses to take you anywhere in the city or a day in the country. Unfortunately it is not suitable for people with mobility problems because of the steps down to it.
The flat is a bright basement flat build in 1820 which still has many original features, including working shutters. There are steep stone steps down from the street to the front door so the flat is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems, and care must be taken on them. This area is not looking it's best, we are waiting for repairs to be carried out on a wall.
The light and airy south facing living room is very quiet despite a bus stop and main street close by. You can relax in this spacious room after a busy day sightseeing or eat at the dining table that seats six.
There are two good sized bedrooms, one with a British king sized double and one twin room, both rooms are very quiet as situated at the back of the flat.
There is a well equipped kitchen with a small fridge with freezer compartment and a washing machine, but no dryer. The bathroom has been converted to a shower room with a vintage feel, there is no bath. The W.C. is separate from the shower room.
We provide high quality bedding and towels for each guest as well as a cot and /or toddler rail and high chair on request. There will be a welcome pack of fruit, tea, coffee, sugar and milk as well as Scottish shortbread biscuits. There are complimentary soaps and shampoos. You will find plenty of guide books, DVD's, CD's, books, games, puzzles and a toy box as well as a flat screen TV and WI-FI. Our flat, and the flat below share the front door and patio where we have a secure store for bicycles, let me know if you require this. The flat has a strict no smoking rule and also, sorry no pets.
During your stay you have exclusive use of the flat, make yourselves at home. I will not be able to meet you as I do not live in the city but my cousin does and we can be contacted anytime on the numbers in the welcome notes, we are only too pleased to help. Our family use the flat often when we stay in the city and the belongings in it have been in our family for two generations, enjoy and respect.
I love the fact the flat is in the New Town and close to the City centre in a vibrant area with wonderful grand architecture but has a village feel with many small shops, bars and restaurants close by.
Just across the road you can access Carlton Hill which gives you not only fabulous views of famous landmarks like the Castle, St Giles Cathedral, Scott Monument, Holyrood House, the Scottish Parliament, and Arthur's seat but also wonderful views over roof tops to the sea and Fife.
The flat is very close to several bus stops that will take you everywhere in the city. Most attractions are within walking distance and there are cycle routes round the city which can be accessed close to the flat. The new tram line from the airport terminates 5 minutes walk from the flat.
Take a look at Edinburgh Innertube Map which will give you traffic free routes round the city. The flat is very close to the Stand Comedy Club where comedy can be found every night. Check their website for times.
