Die Unterkunft

INSTANT BOOK - My calendar is updated every day of the year so you may 'Instant Book' with confidence. :) No need to ask 'if available'.

The carriage is snug ALL year round - panel radiators in every room and, woodburner, and double glazing.

What's included? Basically just bring yourselves, and food and drink. The bed/s are made (according to number staying) with 100% cotton linen, towels & teatowels provided, fresh dishcloth every time (and washing up liquid, and liquid soap, and first few toilet rolls). First basket of logs (and kindling, paper, matches) for the woodburner. The kitchen is equipped. All you need is to relax, get out on the veranda with your drink of choice, and start looking for dolphins!

Conde Nast Traveller - Top Five 'best spots to enjoy the British Seaside' 'This carriage has reached her final staging post - between the beaches of Aberporth and Tresaith. The only neighbours are the birds...this is the perfect place for toasting crumpets after a day's walking or dolphin-spotting' (Sally Shalam for Conde Naste Traveller magazine).

Enjoy some of the finest views in Wales from our converted Edwardian railway carriage located on the coastal footpath between the sandy beaches at Aberporth and Tresaith.

Many guests see Europe's largest colony of bottle-nose dolphins in the bay in front, and direct access to the heritage coast footpath makes our carriage the ideal location for exploring the West Wales coast. Peaceful location with no roads within 300 yards. You can catch sea bass and mackerel on lines from the rocks in front of the carriage.

In Detail -

All rooms in the carriage are lined in oak, are insulated and have panel heaters so are suitable for use all year round. We love it when it is stormy in winter!

WIFI provided free of charge, works in every room (note we've never had any problem with it, and to our knowledge it always works, but like any accommodation provider we cannot guarantee WIFI)

Kitchen with cooker, microwave etc. Fairly basic as kitchens go but better views than most you'll have used! Fridge with small freezer compartment. Door to rear covered patio 'the train platform'.

'Salon' with woodburner (first basket of fuel supplied). Two sofas

Verandah with views to the front. benches and table.

Bedroom Compartment 1: standard size Double bed, wardrobe etc, luggage racks! It's compact, but cosy. Fitted wardrobe and dressing table. Hairdryer.

Bedroom Compartment 2: Standard size Double bed + one narrow train bunk (suitable only for child). Again, note it's compact!

Dining Compartment: It wouldn't be a train without one! 1930s Oak dining suite.

Shower Room with quality quadrant shower, toilet etc. Heated chrome towel rail and blast fan for warmth when you get out of the shower.

Garden (enclosed) with access to sea, picnic bench, also private patio to rear

WIFI included free of charge, but, like in any accommodation, cannot be guaranteed. Always worked so far :)

The carriage is a very special place to visit. It feels like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel. The location is one of a kind. It's a short walk from the car (remember to pack carefully!) but totally worth it for the views and the peace and quiet. We were lucky enough to spot dolphins in the Aberporth cove, and I'm sure we saw them go past the cliffs in front of the carriage too. Bring binoculars!, we will next time! I love the fact there is no TV - we played cards and read books on the deck, and had a lovely break from background noise. It's so quiet that you can just sit and listen to the many birds. I recommend the Cardigan Island Farm Park (we saw 4 dolphins and 2 seals), Cwtch cafe for a quick bite, and The Ship was very friendly for a drink or pub meal.

One of our favourite airbnb's to date! Stunningly beautiful & peaceful location and accommodation with great character and charm. The carriage was much more spacious than I anticipated having stayed in others (and similar sized barges) - it would easily accommodate a family of four. The garden and seating areas front and back are fully enclosed which was perfect for sitting outside with the dog. The kitchen had everything we needed and bedding/towels smelled beautifully fresh. We didn't have any wood or kindling on arrival (as advertised) but bought our own in the village and left enough for the next person. Internet reception was fine throughout our stay. The footpath in front of the carriage was not in the least bit busy - we hardly noticed people passing and was plenty far enough away not to disturb. Dolphns appeared like clockwork at 10am each morning and were regular chough sightings in front of accommodation - wonderful for wildlife lovers! We would return without a shadow of doubt.

This was a lovely place. We saw dolphins on numerous occasions. Twice on a boat trip from New Quay. Twice in the bay at Aberporth. Went for a curry on our first night in the village and not great. Rice was cold, they had to be reminded that we needed plates - 3 times, and the service was very slow. The meal in the Ship in Aberporth was lovely though and if you can get a table upstairs you have a lovely view across the bay. We also went for a meal twice at the Ship in Tresaith (I think this is how you spell it). Was a mile walk along the coastal path but a really lovely walk, and the views from the pub are gorgeous. Both pubs were typical pub food. I'd recommend booking for both of these as we had to on both occasions as they were both fully booked when we tried getting in first time round. Comfy beds, lovely wood burner and very lovely to relax on the veranda - even in the rain it was sheltered!

We had a great stay in Greg's gorgeous railway cabin! The views are incredible and our two dogs (Golden Retrievers) just loved the attention from walkers and other four-legged friends passing by on the coastal path. The cabin was super cosy inside on cold Easter nights - we had the fire on and Scrabble out with the sea views out the window... absolute bliss!
