Sheltered behind a majestic house listed in San Cristobal’s Historic Registry, this rooftop apartment was built in 2016. It´s so peaceful and quiet it´s hard to believe you´re in the center of the city. Breathtaking original design by sculptor-arquitect Kees Grootenboer combines natural materials with energy-efficient appliances and modern comforts. Abundant windows and skylights welcome natural light and beautiful views; spacious interior invites you to relax or work peacefully with good wifi connection. Roomy corner sofa makes into a bed for two. Two attractive stuffed chairs let you read comfortably, with good light. Outdoor deck with view to the southern mountains is glass-covered, great for eating outside at sunset or using wifi outdoors.
We named this beautiful apartment after my beloved mother, Lavinia, who admired beauty and appreciated comfort.

Entrance is through historic Spanish-style building housing a cultural center and the acclaimed vegetarian/vegan restaurant La Casa del Pan, founded in 1989. Spanish, meditation and yoga classes are available in the building. Documentaries and selected movies are shown most evenings downstairs. Live music in the restaurant on weekends does not interfere with the peace and quiet upstairs.

Weitere wichtige Infos
While the apartment is in the center of the historic center, it is a quiet rooftop retreat, a few steps away from live music, theater and cultural activity in the neighborhood. Restaurants, markets, travel agents, bookstores and shopping are nearby. The washer-dryer is energy-saving, super-quiet but requires 6 hours to finish its cycle of wash & dry. Please note this and plan ahead, if you want to wash your clothes. Also, it uses very little liquid detergent, which we supply, of an eco-friendly variety and 1/2-cup of which should be added directly on the clothes and not in the soap dispenser.
The hot water shower is energy-saving. Thank you for keeping your showers short, to save water and energy.
Your stay with us includes 2 Continental Breakfasts in La Casa del Pan restaurant downstairs, featuring organic coffee or herbal tea, fresh-squeezed orange juice, homemade bread, homemade jam and butter. You will appreciate our quality and the care we take to prepare everything fresh.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.
Please leave the apartment as clean as you found it.
Large parties (more than 4 guests) are not allowed in the apartment, but we have a space available for events downstairs, equipped with a projector and screen, with tables for serving drinks and food, for 400 pesos M.N. per hour.
We ask you to separate your trash in the containers provided for composting or recycling.

i have a vegetarian, artisan bakery-restaurant called La Casa del Pan Papalotl in San Cristobal de Las Casas with a rooftop garden. i love to garden, cook, play the flute, paint, swim and hike. La Casa del Pan is a wonderful place to eat, watch movies, practice yoga and meet people. We host volunteers when space is available. My husband Ron is an agro-ecological anthropologist who works with Mayan and mestizo farmers. We love living in Mexico and enjoy visiting France and England, as well as the wild areas of the US. We like daytime activities more than nightlife, visiting local farms and farmers´ markets, and are happy to recommend museums and restaurants in San Cristobal and nearby natural and cultural points of interest, as well as some of the history of this area.
