Clean room in vintage beach house. The vibrancy this close to the boardwalk & beach can't be beat & this block is pure magic full of interesting views, people food & music. You'll feel local in an instant. The authenticity of the experience is the hardest thing to describe, but the #1 thing my guests speak of. Super Cali Vibes.

Die Unterkunft
Myself and all guests must follow the health and safety orders and recommendations in place by the City of LA and CDC guidelines. I am fully vaccinated. Please let me know if you are as well when inquiring so as to streamline our communication!

Also, please note that this is my actual home, not a vacation rental, (I’m an original Airbnb host - hosting guests how Airbnb started, and it’s loads of fun). I communicate with each guest about their specific needs, expectations, and experience. I do this for my own comfort and safety as well as for yours and the other guest. This extra effort has worked exceptionally well.

Keep this in mind as you book and add details to your intro message that tells me a bit about you, your experience with Venice , how you imagine spending your days, and why you are choosing my sweet piece of paradise because I’ll be asking these questions anyway. Read my profile bio by clicking on my round profile picture for an example of nice details that are helpful when booking and to learn a bit about me.

Located at the front of the house - attached to a small den which you are welcome to use (see pics). Room also has a small seating area/luggage area with french windows overlooking a quaint little porch.

Only one wall is shared with an inhabitable space (your room door comes in off the den which is just inside the front door). The other walls are off the porch, an exterior hallway , and the closet

My room is toward the back of the house and I often enter through the backdoor. The sunroom is just across the den with the entrance just inside the front door. Basically you don’t have to feel like there’s someone breathing down your neck just on the other side of the wall even though this is a shared space.

Your bathroom (pictured) is shared with the guest in the other guest room across the den. All spaces in between are mine (the host); guests may “borrow” my kitchen which just means return it the way you found it in a timely manner :) I will provide you fridge and shelf space - I have plenty available.

The guest bedroom is simply furnished with:
-Comfy Full sized bed
-Walk in Closet
-Small desk
-Cozy soft bedding and a fan
-Heater if you need it
-Great WiFi

My household, meaning myself, my guests and my dog do not create what would be considered disturbing noise. Aside from playing some sweet tunes in the yard while gardening on a sunny, usually weekend, day we’re chill.

I work from home and have respect for others doing the same, but as I write this I can hear a drill from some work my next-door neighbor is having done, and a helicopter could easily come hover, at the same time along comes a kid carrying a boom box playing something you may or may not like. Those things don’t bother me and I consider it a normal part of city life (albeit at the beach - it’s still urban). Weekends are different from weekdays. Nights are different from days and are typically very quiet. With that said, my friends and neighbors who live in the area often describe my place as a peaceful respite and I’ve never had anyone complain of noise, but have added this description as it’s a very common question.

I live on the first floor of a vintage craftsman that is becoming very rare in the neighborhood. The house is just steps (1/2 a block) from Ocean Front Walk and is located on an iconic street in Venice.

Think Charlie Chaplin, the Doors, and skateboarding legends - plus now some pretty great sandwiches and coffee shops - all right outside the front door. Trendy Abbot Kinney is two blocks in the other direction.

I love this "old" (for California) Craftsman house and think it's absolutely charming. There are three bedrooms total (including my private room) and two bathrooms (including mine). Sometimes I am solo and have the place to myself, but often both guest rooms are booked, so you will most likely have another monthly guest in the house in addition to yourself.

No outside guests. The room rental is for one only, but don't worry, if you have friends or coworkers you want to meet up with there are literally dozens of places around my block to hang in; mellow socializing with one other person in the yard is a-okay.

My guests tell me that my location is unbeatable - and I agree. You can get closer to the beach by about a half block - but I think my place is even better as it is typically very quiet and feels like a community block, where just a block or two in either direction puts you in the middle of all of "the action" either on Ocean Front Walk, Abbot Kinney, Windward Ave, or Main St. Santa Monica.

Additionally, you can walk to everything you need here. It's glorious!
Things that are close:
--Ocean Views - from the front yard!
---The ocean, skate park, shops, artist vendors, aka "classic boardwalk scene" -1/4 block
---Trendy shopping street Abbot Kinney - 2 blocks
---Santa Monica - the boardwalk turns into SanMo about 1/2 mile down Ocean Front Walk
---The Marina and marina walk - about 1/2 mile heading south
--- Windward Circle - the famous Venice sign, shops, restaurants - 2 blocks
---Venice Canals - several blocks
0.9 miles: Main Street Santa Monica: tons of cute/cool shops and restaurants - not as "fancy" as Abbot Kinney - 1/2 mile
0.8 miles: Rose St - new shops and restaurants keep popping up here. I hate to use this horrid word again - but it's an up and coming TRENDY area ;)

Mr. Scruffles aka "scruff", "scruffles", "scruffy" aka "my cowboy buddy", aka "mr cruff" aka "pup pup"! - is my cool, sweet little rescue terrier. Consider him my co-host as he's always by my side. Guests are asked to be extra careful to close gates to keep Mr. Scruff safe.

MUST LOVE VENICE - (or think you will)

I live AT the beach. Yes, Abbot Kinney is three blocks away with some of the trendiest eateries and shops in LA, and you have a fairly good chance of seeing a celebrity.

With that said, Ocean Front Walk (OFW) is even closer - where the carnival feel of "old Venice" is still very much alive.

If you don't already know Venice well, please visit Trip Advisor, the comments there will illuminate if this is the right spot for you.

Here is a review I took from Trip Advisor about Venice; I did not write it but feel it summarizes the area well.

"There is no doubt that Venice is gritty. Yes there are homeless people around. Human beings that have fallen on hard times that live in a supportive community in Venice. Yes, there is a lot of Marijuana around and for sale - but this is legal in California. Clearly you have to be very careful at night. But that's true for so many parts of LA. During the day this is an interesting, diverse and exciting place to be with an atmosphere and energy that's almost unique. The skate park is fantastic, and this part of the Strand is amazing for walking, running, biking. There is an amazing range of restaurants in the area. I think if you come from a more conservative part of the country and have a point of view about society that's less tolerant, maybe this isn't the right place for you. But I think for most people this would make a great place to visit.”

Venice Beach, Kalifornien, Vereinigte Staaten

I live VERY close to the beach and boardwalk (less than a block). I am lucky to have views of a vast blue ocean right outside my front door and live a very "California" lifestyle - lot's of sand, salt, and sunsets.

The famous Venice boardwalk is just at the end of my block. It spans in both directions and I find that some guests come stay with me and don't ever "leave", but instead choose to venture by bike or skateboard in one direction or another - either towards Santa Monica or Marina del Rey.

The old-school 1970's surf/skate vibe of Venice is still hanging on - and there is still a nice tight-knit community of locals who keep the art scene here alive. So even though Venice is now considered to be one of the "hippest" places in the country, it's still very "hippie". Lot's of tie-dye and drum circles. In general, everyone is super friendly and open-minded. I perhaps take this for granted, but guests often comment about the pleasant interactions they have had just meeting others around town.

Venice may NOT be a good place for travelers who are uncomfortable around and of the following:

a. marijuana (420)
b. homeless/mentally ill (we have a decent population on the boardwalk)
c. "liberalism"

This is not meant to scare you off. I love Venice and think it is a magical mix of art, music, food, rich, poor, ugly, beautiful, etc., etc., etc..again, feel free to ask questions if necessary!

"Live in the moment, be kind, be honest and listen" is a philosophy I try to follow always. I am an avid homesharer through airbnb and can say without hesitation that my guests have helped me grow and learn in unexpected and pleasant ways. Everybody has something to teach and I am always looking to learn. By profession I am a former high school teacher turned digital marketer who sometimes picks up work as a substitute teacher in Santa Monica with middle school kiddos to get my "teacher fix", but when people ask me "what I do" I answer that I skateboard and hang with my dogs in Venice. The marketing is just how I make money :) What I love to do most is host guests, create experiences, and to continue to work on designing the life I love to live, which is full of ocean, sand, dogs, art, people, music, skateboarding, and learning whether it be through travel, conversation, reading,or simply observing. I believe that we are all very similar at the core of it and that transparency and managing expectations is the key to happiness - feel free to ask me what I mean by that if it sounds vague.

After hosting for a while I can safely say that guests can simply choose their level of interaction. I am always open to joiners when someone wants to join!
This has resulted in having dinner and drinks with some guests, skateboarding with others and having almost no interaction with some. All scenarios are fine with me.

I can't however guarantee that my personal schedule will allow for heavy interaction - sometimes I am super busy with work and/or travel (I do have a cohost I rely upon and will notify you if this is the case).

Basically, I will just be living my life while you're here. Me living my life consists of working from home (digital marketing) playing from home (beach, skateboarding, gardening, hanging with a neighbor or two in the yard, watching a movie.), lots of crafts and "arty stuff' (tie dye, painting, remodeling a tiny travel trailer)..."very california" a friend of mine says, and it's true!

So, if it seems natural to interact then we shall! You don't need to hide out while you're here, but if you want to, it's pretty easy to do that too.
