This apartment is half of a 1925 neo-georgian 2 family house in a historic district just a 20-30 minute subway ride to Manhattan. It has 2 bedrooms, one bath, a fireplace, vaulted ceilings. Historic Jackson Heights, is one of New York's attractions, mostly as a magnet for foodies. There are bars and cafes nearby, but the street we live on is quiet. Beschreibung

The neighborhood is the most diverse in the country; about 150 languages; LGBT venues; every religion. It is lively, but one of the safest in NYC.

The space: This apartment is 1 part of a 2 family neo-georgian home built in 1925. It looks out onto the rear garden and onto other historic buildings. It is adorned with quality furniture, soft towels and sheets, and has hardwood floors. There are stairs you have to walk up, however, so it is not great if you have bad knees.

You will have full access to a private loft apartment with a separate entryway. The stairs bypass our house altogether. But we are downstairs if you need us.

We are a couple, and live in a house downstairs. Gezi is a writer and artist, and is around much of the day. Peter is a professor at Columbia University and try to stay home as much as I can. We can also be reached on our cell phones. Our languages are English, Spanish, and Chinese and basic Thai. The neighbors can help with just about any language you need.

The neighborhood: We moved here from Manhattan because the neighborhood is more diverse, the food is better, things are much cheaper, and the subway to Manhattan is fast. There is a Little Thailand, Chinatown, Little India, Little Colombia...not to mention Korean, Filipino, Mexican, and just about every other ethnicity in the neighborhood. There are also amenities for yuppie Manhattan escapees like us, such as cafes and bars with single malt beer. Just about everything for everyone. There are also a wide array of LGBT options.

We will leave information on the best restaurants. But cutting to the chase, there is no better Thai food outside of Thailand. And the Ecuadorian and Peruvian is amazing, as is Mexican.

The neighborhood is multi-ethnic, multi-religious, LGBT/straight. Roosevelt Avenue is very lively with music and dancing all night. (Lots of Columbian kids out.) While it is lively, with lots of street vendors, it is among the 10 safest precincts in the city. See:

Check our guidebook for food, bars, and cafes

There are many modes of transit. We are 3 blocks from the 7 train, and (healthy) walking distance to the E, F, M, and R trains. It is about 20 minutes on the E or F train to get to Manhattan, and about 30 minutes on the local 7. Sometimes faster and sometimes slower. This does not include walking time to the train. Your time will vary based on your destination. Brooklyn takes at least 50 minutes, though.

There are lots of cabs. You can just grab one. Uber and Lyft tend to be cheaper than yellow/green cabs.

There is express bus service, including to La Guardia and JFK.

To get here:

La Guardia: you can take a cab (about 7 minutes) or a bus (about 15 minutes).
JFK: a cab will take about 20-30 minutes, and the E train will take about 30-45 minutes.

The neighborhood is safe and quiet. The only annoyance occurs when a runway at La Guardia is undergoing construction or there is a harsh weather pattern. Under those conditions, there is airplane noise, but otherwise noise is rare. There is also a school nearby, so you can hear kids during school days.

Truly the best Airbnb experience anyone could ever hope for....I do not know where to start....with the amazing neighborhood of Jackson Heights, the host Peter, who went way above and beyond to make my trip special, or the beautiful and super comfortable apartment where I was lucky enough to spend 4 nights....I could go on and on about how wonderful everything was. This is the hardest travel review I have had to write to date because I do not know how to possibly highlight all the positives (there were no negatives besides the fact I was not able to stay forever) of this trip. I have had a number of really great airbnb experiences, but this one stands out as being the absolute best. I had the desire to stay in Jackson Heights because I wanted to experience the diversity the area has to offer in the way of food and culture. I had no idea at the time that the neighborhood was also home to some of the most stunningly lovely architecture in the city! I knew that this home was located just about a block away from the bustling and vibrant Roosevelt Avenue, but I was so surprised to find how peaceful and beautiful the residential area was. Everything in the neighborhood is super walkable, and very safe and also family oriented (I say this as a lone female who has spent some time in a few of NY's neighborhoods, and I felt safer here than many areas in Manhattan). You could literally walk anywhere from 5-20 minutes, and taste India, Thailand, Ecuador, the Philippines, or just about anywhere else in the world. Everyone knows that Queens is the best borough to visit if you are into food, and I would venture to say that Jackson Heights is the top neighborhood to visit if you want to try it all. Peter was not only the best Airbnb host I have ever had, but also one of the nicest people I have met in my lifetime. He went out of his way to ensure I felt comfortable not just in the apartment, but the entire neighborhood, giving me a tour of the area, pointing out the gorgeous architecture, providing history, and even sharing lunch with me at the most delicious Filipino restaurant! I cannot express how deeply grateful I am to him for enhancing my experience of his neighborhood by spending this time with me....he is an immensely kind and beautiful soul, and I feel so lucky to have been able to rent the spacious private apartment above his home. Waking up in this apartment could never get old. Instead of hearing traffic and the city noise you may expect, you are greeted each morning by the songs of the birds, and the gorgeous view of the tiled roofs of nearby homes. The apartment itself is incredibly spacious, private, and comforting, with a wonderful collection of books, very comfy beds and soft linens, attractively tiled bathroom, high ceilings, gorgeous...

The two week stay was wonderful. The stylish clean apartment has great hosts, art, books, furniture and amenities. Know that it's a shoes-off apartment. The table on the washer is really useful although the top and things on it can slowly vibrate into random new positions during a wash. Jackson Heights is a great area to explore many different cuisines (Nepali, Tibetan, many Latin American cuisines, and more; you will be shocked; and the desserts..) and hear Spanish everywhere. Subway, car, bicycle and walking access are all excellent. If you are feeling too outdoorsy for the 30 minute subway, it's a two hour walk to Manhattan with good cafes and restaurants along the way and a cool bridge over Roosevelt Island.

Sissia and Peter were both incredibly welcoming, warm, and all around genuine hosts. The private loft/apartment was as beautiful as the surrounding area/neighborhood; and exactly as described. Visiting NY can be quite overwhelming at first, especially if you're not from there but making the trek back to the airbnb made my trip seamless and comfortable; knowing I had such a wonderful place to come back to and relax before getting ready to explore in the city the following day. Thank you again for your hospitality, I truly had a great time.

This wonderfully spacious apartment located in a quiet, and lefy location, is yet just a stone's throw to the vibrant arteries of Jackson Height. Sissia is a great host and staying with her has been a real pleasure.

I used to be a journalist & editor of a Chinese magazine for over 8 years; now I am a author and artist based in Queens, New York. I just had my first book published last year, now I am working on my second. Writing and drawing is my way of exploring the world.

My husband and I travel together around the world, we are bicycle fans, we love music, films, food. Especially food, that`s why we chose to live in Jackson Heights, Queens rather than the Lower East Side, were we lived before.

Jackson Heights has more than 146 languages spoken. You can find all kind of food from all over the world, little India, Mexico, Ecuador, Chinatown..we find food in little Thailand even better than the real Thailand. believe me. This is a place worth exploring.

we are a 4 block walk to the 7 train, which takes about 25-30 mins to Manhattan. The E/F express train is a longer walk, but it takes only 20 mins to get to Manhattan. The N and M trains are also nearby.

Our house is in the historical area, we are one of the super beautiful 80 year-old historical buildings. We have a front yard and a flower garden, it is quiet and peaceful. After a whole day hustle in the city, this is where you can to take a long, nice bath, and wake up with the birds singing.

Our house is also our own ceramic studio, anyone who stay with us are welcomed to join us.
