In addition, the villa is 1h15 drive from the airport. We can organize airport transfers at an extra charge.
We do recommend car rental as public transports are not reliable in Mauritius. Should you not want to rent a car, we should be happy to provide you with the contact details of reliable taxi drivers.

A coastline comprising exquisite coves and emerald lagoons, permanently enhanced by a cool sea breeze: life goes by at a slow pace in the east – whether you’re a member of the fishing community or a holidaymaker.

Situated between the mountains and the sea, the east is characterised by charming little villages with poetic names like Petite Julie, Mare d’Australia and Queen Victoria. It also plays home to some of the country’s best beaches, including Roches Noires, where you will want to spend hours basking in the sun, glorying in the sight of the long stretch of white sand.

Grand River South East

Visitors and locals alike enjoy navigating along the mouth of Grande Rivière Sud Est, swimming and diving under its waterfall or having a picnic on the riverbanks. Outings to this popular beauty-spot can be organised with local operators from the village of Trou d’Eau Douce. Best done by catamaran.

Victoria 1840, Trou d'Eau Douce

Victoria 1840 is an old sugar cane factory, classified as part of Mauritian heritage in its own right, which has been converted to house a fabulous contemporary art museum and a delightful restaurant. 25m by car.

There are vast swathes of spotless sandy beach on the east coast, running all the way down from Belle Mare through to Trou d’Eau Douce. The gently undulating sand tracks along this stunning coastline are often used by joggers, if you fancy bringing your running shoes on holiday with you. Alternatively, take time out simply to enjoy the spectacular surroundings. The beaches on this side of the island are, after all, some of Mauritius’ finest.

Île aux Cerfs

Most aerial photographs of Mauritius reveal the dramatic shapes and colours of the lagoon that surrounds Île aux Cerfs – once used by wealthy Europeans as a stag hunting ground,. Today, the island is a popular destination for day-trippers, who often combine it with a sojourn to the charming fishing village of Trou d’Eau Douce on the east coast.

The islet is dedicated to the high-end Le Touessrok 18-hole golf course. However, it also features many picturesque coves, sheltered by clusters of casuarina trees, which are crying out to be explored. Half an hour by car.

Paul et Virginie Monument, Poudre d’Or

The most famous story in Mauritius folklore, ‘Paul et Virginie’ was inspired by the shipwreck of the St Géran, which came to a watery end just off the north-east coast at Poudre d’Or. A small monument marks the spot where the boat sunk.

Legend has it that while Paul, the son of a slave, waited for Virginie, his bourgeois sweetheart, to return from overseas, her boat the St Géran floundered on the rocks. Paul apparently swam out to his lover, but she modestly refused to remove her clothing to swim back to shore with him. Eventually her Victorian clothes dragged her down into the depths and she was drowned. Paul subsequently died of a broken heart. Only 10mins by car.

There is more to Pamplemousses than its delightful botanical gardens. Deriving its original name from the Pamplemoussier citrus plant that was imported by the Dutch who first colonised Mauritius in the 17th Century, this northern town has a rich historical past.

Interesting places to visit include the Old Cemetery, the 18th Century Saint François of Assises Church, and L’Aventure du Sucre: a fascinating museum that chronicles the history of the Mauritian sugar industry while offering additional insight into the island’s wider history, including slavery and rum production. Only 20mins by car.

Rental car is strongly advised. We can suggest reliable rental car companies if requested.

Self catering villa.
The service of a maid is included in the price everyday from 9h00-13h00 except Sunday and public holidays. She does the cleaning, takes care of the linen and washes/dries clothes. She will also do the folding of clothes. She does not cook there. However, if needed the house lady can prepare a few local dishes for a nominal fee but requires at least a 24hr notice.

Depending on the catch of the day, there is a fisherman who can deliver lobsters, shrimps, fish, crab etc.
