Honaunau is a cute little town in the heart of Kona coffee farmland. Slightly higher in elevation, it's cool at night, but within 5 miles of great snorkeling spots. There are no hotels in town. This is the real HI island life.
The house is a three bedroom home. The main house has one bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The second bedroom (the room for rent) has a separate entrance on the side of the house. You can walk across the lanai to use our kitchen in the main house. The bedroom you rent has it's own full bath inside the room.
You have one parking spot by your room entrance. There is a half acre backyard. We have a small lanai in front of the entrance to your room which has a view of the ocean. The bedroom has one queen size bed.
We have a 7 year old English Lab. He is extremely friendly and loves visitors. His space is on the lanai you have to cross to get to the kitchen. If you are uncomfortable around dogs, we can move his bed to the lanai behind our bedroom. Please message us in advance requesting this.
The house is a typical Hawaii home. It is open and airy with views of the ocean from the kitchen, living room and bedroom. The room for rent has lots of privacy and is almost like a separate apartment, However, you do have to cross the lanai into the main house to use the kitchen.
The nights are usually very peaceful and quiet.

I work from home every day but Tuesday. I will be available to answer questions and help you find things to do. I work one day at a honey farm a few miles away, giving tours of their beehives. I work a lot with other local farms and know a lot about things to do in the area.
We love to go to the beach, paddle, swim, snorkel, and hike. Nate surfs and I keep bees. We've both lived here a few years and enjoy hiking to new spots and secluded beaches. We're happy to share info on how to get to our favorite places on the island. We have a Big Island Revealed book, Reef Fishes book, and Hawaiian plants book in the room for you to look at. These island are pretty unique and I am always learning about new plants and fish I've never seen before.

Please note the neighborhood we live in is agriculture land. The neighbors can be heard using landscaping equipment or power tools or playing music. None of this noise is exceptionally loud, but it can be heard from the room for rent. If you are early risers and want to go explore the island, this is a great place to do that. It is almost always very quiet at night. But if you are looking for a quiet, secluded place, this house is not for you.
We expect our guests to treat our property as they would their own. You are welcome to use the kitchen to cook or put food in the refrigerator, but clean up after yourself and wash your dishes before leaving the kitchen.
You can play music, but please do not have your music loud enough to be heard from inside the main house. This is a very quiet neighborhood at night. Please be quiet after 10pm, as we both get up very early on the weekdays.
The living room in the main house is not open for use. We have a lot of instruments in this room. We ask that people be respectful of this space and not touch the instruments.
