If you want to be near the sea but at the same time need a certain distance to beach life, if you want to live within narrow lanes in an old town of the medevial age without missing a bit of comfort, if you prefer uncomplicated booking and still don’t want to miss direct, simple and prompt communication when facing questions or problems - then your choice should be the Town House in Old Labin. We spent three weeks here and would always come back. Just awsome!

We had a lovely stay at Denis. The apartment is located in the old village of Labin, it is very clean, well organised and beautifully decorated. Within central Labin it was very near to delicious restaurants, and from many little art and craft shops. A perfect base to travel around Istrie!

We stayed at Denis's house for five days in August 2017 and it would be really difficult to overstate what a great stay we had. I could easily write a dozen pages travelogue about it but I'll try to summarize it here briefly. Fist, the old town of Labin, where Denis's house is in, is arguably one of the most beautiful places in all of Istria. It's a historic town on the hilltop 3 km from the sea, offering magnificent 360 degrees views of the turquoise waters of the Adriatic on one side and lush plains of Istrian peninsula on the other. And when I say historic, I really mean historic, because the town was there in Roman times and was built on top of itself since the third century AD. It's not that often that you get to spend some of your holiday in a place continually inhabited for almost 1800 years. City's narrow cobbled streets form an amazing Mediterranean-style labyrinth with surprises waiting to be discovered behind every corner: fiestas (the night we arrived they had a major fiesta on the main town square with a music stage, food stalls and about five thousand merry people dancing and having great time), street performances, exhibitions, art galleries, museums, taverns, coffee shops, boutique olive oil shops, hidden gardens, parks, renaissance churches, palaces and historic fortifications. We would walk around for hours and pretended to get lost (the kids loved it). It's like a place from a fairy tale, a living medieval town so vibrant and beautiful that I'm honestly surprised that they didn't shoot any Game of Thrones episodes there. It's not unlike Dubrovnik, but smaller and less touristy. And the best thing is that is not a dead museum town at all - there are real people actively living in all those beautiful houses, going about their business every day, with busy traffic going across the main town square. No wonder so many artists have summer residences or were born in Old Labin, our host Denis being one of them - the place is so picturesque one could find years worth of inspiration there (I too would move there in an instant). And not just artists: there are dozens of busts of famous Labinians in the town park - poets, reformers, philosophers, inventors, heroes - it is a testament to the enduring spirit of this amazing place and its people - that such a small town has produced so many distinguished citizens over the centuries. The first anti-fascist uprising in the world? Labin Republic, 1921. Enough said. Second, Denis's place - it's actually a whole 3-story historical house in the very center of the Old town, literally next door to the city museum, church and gallery. On the inside, it's newly renovated, fully equipped, comfy and beautifully decorated with some of or host's own artwork. At the same time it's just a few steps and a couple of stairs away from the parking - as a guest you get...
