Charming Palms back house, long considered one of the safest, most pleasant and convenient to everything areas on the west end in Los Angeles.
If you want to enjoy a true L.A. early thirties bungalow, one that I imagine may have housed young starlets contracted with the nearby studios back in the day then this is it.
Warm, clean and comfortable, great beds & seating throughout.
The amenities were all that and more than anticipated by me, an active Phoenix grandmother. Drove with two grown teenage grandchildren to stay. We absolutely loved the house. We lived in area our whole lives and only moved to Phoenix 10 years ago when one of my daughters, a pilot for Southwest Airlines, was based there. For me and the kids staying at Derek's house was like going home ... not only for location but for the atmosphere and the immensely enjoyable feeling of the place ... there for the L.A. Film Festival, it was a harried time meeting up with friends, family, etc., but it was such a pleasant abode to come and go from during the days of our stay that we can't wait to return to relax and enjoy.
Seriously, this is a real gem! I hope all guests fully appreciate and respect it for the treasure it is.
We agreed that this was much much better than staying in what would have undoubtedly been a much less enjoyable hotel ... it was our first Airbnb experience and far exceeded expectations.
There is great large TV with multiple viewing options, a most impressive library filled with a variety of excellent reading, a terrific kitchen with all one needs to prepare anything, including a pantry with the basics on hand, such as coffee, tea, spices and whatever you need to tie you over until getting to the grocery. Also an outdoor grill and sitting area, fenced in - private and safe, especially for children.
The gate and house are quite secure and a parking space available right next to house ... a big consideration in an area where street parking can be iffy at different times. To be able to park next to where we were staying was very important for me since I have some mobility issues that make extended walking to car impossible.
We will be looking to stay at Derek's again. He had to be out of town for family event during our stay, but arranged with a lovely friend, Sarah, to warmly greet and give us keys and point out all the necessities we would need to know as well as to be available during our stay.
A final note ... on day we checked out I inadvertently tucked a small bag containing a Kindle and iPod Touch, important personal devices, into the bedding while straightening up ... Derek contacted me immediately and met with my daughter during her brief stay for its prompt return.
So glad I did this - hoping to do again soon! -by Constance
