What a lovely place to stay, with a very warm and welcoming owner. We will definitely be coming back

This cottage is in the old part of Cockermouth, close to the Cocker River, many food outlets, and easy walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. It was warm and comfortable and all amenities were provided for an easy self catered holiday. I would recommend Jan's place to anyone who wanted to explore the region and at the same time experience some of yesteryear with modern comfortable facilities. You will have to be able to scale the steep stairway which adds to the charm of your stay.

My daughter and I spent a great week here. The cottage has steep and narrow stairs which weren't a problem for us at all. It was clean and well-kept. Cockermouth is the perfect place for exploring this relatively unspoiled part of the Lake District.

The cottage was clean, tidy and well equipped. The host was lovely and very accommodating. It's very close to the centre of Cockermouth and convenient for exploring the Lakes.

Good place! We (family of 3) stayed 2 nights, walked in Lake District. Jan is very polite and friendly. The house is old (listed), but recently renovated, warm and convenient. Good shower. Kitchen is clean and efficient, has all necessary equipment, utensils etc, washing machine. Good wifi.

Cockermouth proved an interesting place to stay with Jan providing an excellent base. The Wordsworth birthplace is a joy...with wonderful cakes...and you must not miss the hardware shop cum museum...absolutely fascinating!

Cockermouth and the Lakes are very special to me, because my wife was born in Cockermouth and it reminds me of the scenery, mountains and walks I had in Cape Town South Africa where I was born.

My wife and I bought the Grey Goat Cottage a few years ago as a holiday home to escape from the stress and pollution in London and enjoy the clean fresh air, walking the fells plus the quality of life which Cockermouth has to offer.
Cockermouth has a good variety of pubs and restaurants but is not as busy as Keswick which allows me and my family to relax, walk the fells and cycle and re charge our batteries before returning to the fast pace of city life.

My family feels the Grey Goat Cottage would provide affordable holiday self catering accommodation to people who would want a break from living in large cities to reflect on life, enjoy good food, pubs walking and cycling which Cockermouth has to offer.
