Everyday we fell in love more with this little gem of a cottage on Sunset Cove. As mentioned before, while the house itself is lovely with clean, uncluttered yet cozy spaces, and thoughtful details, the property takes you by surprise. Down a long, quiet gravel road through an unassuming mixed-income neighborhood, the house sits at the top of a hill, which gradually slopes down toward a private dock and fire pit. There are neighbors, but we never felt limited by that as many of the interior and exterior spaces are shielded by architecture, trees, or the cliff. During our time at the property, our daughter caught and released hermit crabs at low tide, waded to a distant sandbar, ran through the grassy lawn, made wildflower bouquets, saw shooting stars and the Milky Way, roasted marshmallows over a campfire, found harbor seals, egrets, osprey, herons, cormorants, among many others, rode with us on kayaking trips to islands in Middle Bay, and sat with us to sun on the dock, read books in the shade, and watch the sunset from Adirondack chairs. If you add all the amazing things in the area, it would be a run-on sentence indeed:).
The kitchen was well-equipped with basic cookware, including sharp knives, a standard coffee pot, grill instruments, and anything you would need for corn, lobster, or blueberry pie. Basic but quality ingredients can be found at the Vegetable Corner. Bring or venture into Brunswick for spices or less commonly available ingredients. But every time you even think about it, go get lobster at Erica's.
Besides kayaking and swimming, the area offers many fairly gentle hikes a quick car ride away. For running, the private road is about a mile long with a small hill before going out to a two-lane highway with a narrow shoulder.
Note that the property sleeps approximately eight, but would be most comfortable for a small family, two couples, or several close friends. Those with small children should consider their child's propensity to climb or explore the dock or water's edge unsupervised. While the property lacks air-conditioning, this was not an issue during our stay with daytime temps ranging 70-80, dropping into the 50's at night. There are many windows, which bring a significant cross breeze, and a large ceiling fan.
Overall, we came home rested, restored, and without complaints.
