Have a delightful stay in our well built little studio cottage. Windows on all walls will give you a great view of our Green Mountains! A small kitchenette with electric fry pan, toaster, fridge, crock pot, microwave, coffee maker and a gas grille
Stay in your own private little cottage with windows on all 4 walls. This unique property is the studio of Vermont/California artist, Meryl Lebowitz, and was created to have prime views of the painter's property. The Artist's cottage has it's own heating system, bathroom and kitchenette. Enjoy hanging out inside (bring your inner artist), or explore the trails that traverse the 40 acres. Smell the flowers, visit the cabin in the woods, hit targets with the bb gun, and make sure to have a camp fire.
Kirby is a scenic gem in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, bordered by Burke, Victory, Concord, St Johnsbury and Lyndon. A small, agricultural village the Studio Cottage is 5 miles from East Burke, a village well known for it's ski area and biking trails, and 4 miles from Lyndon, home of Lyndon State College.
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. Enjoy some veggies from the organic garden. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.

Very little, unless there is something I can help with. I come and go, so you may, or may not see me.

Our Kirby Compound has three beautiful and unique rental spaces.
The cottage was once my art studio, and is a self contained building with windows on all sides. It has a king sized bed and enough space for a couple of blow-up beds if need be.
The Apartment is the first floor of our home, with it’s own private entrance, parking, firepit and incredible views. There is one bedroom with a queen bend and another huge bedroom with a queen bed (and couch) and room for several blow up beds. There is also a room with a full sized futon (and wood stove). The well equipped kitchen/living area is large, with a couple of couches. There are a washer and dryer in the large bathroom.
The loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible view of the property. It is cozy, with a wood stove, and has many large tables to work on.
This compound is perfect for large groups (biking friends, family reunions, etc.), set on a totally private property, with gardens, an orchard, and 40 acres of trails to explore.
2 of the units (the cottage and the apt.) are pet friendly when approved, and there is an extra cost of $25 per day per pet.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
No smoking in the buildings. If you must smoke outside, please dispose of cigarette butts.
Please wash your dishes and take good care of our little cottage. Enjoy the books and and fresh veggies while you're here. Occasionally, our terrier, Lyle, will be patrolling the area. Please don't feed him, he's fat enough already.
Pet owners must pick up after their pets and keep them on leash when walking around the compound (no dogs in gardens, please!) Pets are free to run off leash on 40 acres of trails on the property.
I am an artist and have been painting forever. I have a studio on the property. My husband, David Tanych, is a sculptor, and he also has a studio here. Together we created this compound from a bare piece of newly logged land. We constructed the buildings, built the stone walls and planted the gardens, creating what we believe, is heaven on earth. This is a a unique place, calm and private with incredible views. The Northeast Kingdom is REAL Vermont. Ski areas, golf courses, hikes, swimming, biking and kayaking are just a few of the activities that abound. if you want to have a true, old fashioned Vermont experience, this is the place for you!
