Mountain River Retreat is in the Pearse Valley, adjacent to Kahurangi National Park. Situated on a 700 acre deer farm, the rural setting is one of grassland, clear waterways, forested hills and a mountain backdrop. The Retreat is in the midst of trout fishing rivers, tranquil swimming holes and forest trails for biking, hiking or horse riding. Three National Parks are within easy driving distance and plentiful vineyards and local artists' studios to visit.

Der Wohnraum

Wonderful views across the valley to the mountains; Easy walk to the Pearse and Motueka rivers for fishing and swimming. Private and peaceful setting with large fenced garden, native birds, farm walks. A lovely place to relax on the veranda in the sun, soaking in the peace and the views, or curl up in front of the fire with a bottle of local boutique wine.

We had a great stay - all the necessities provided and an excellent jumping off point to explore the Abel Tasman national park. Great for groups with plenty of bedding and en suites. We particulalry loved the wood fire!

I would highly recommend this property. It is in a beautiful setting with spectacular views. It was clean and decorated well and had all the amenities we needed. Ursula came and checked in with us and gave us local tips on walking tracks and a shortcut to Abel Tasman. It was hard to leave this wonderful home.

Great hosts who are very welcoming and provided a cozy home. Fantastic views from the house to wake up to and a well equipped house in general. Area is quiet secluded with no signage, so be sure you have directions mapped clearly in advance. Closest shops are atleast 15-20mins drive, so imperative you have all supplies before check in Most importantly, carry plenty of protection against insects and sand-flies/mosquitoes. Citronella candles were provided but were ineffective against the bugs and we had to cop severe itching due to insect bites. Unfortunately this didn't allow us to enjoy the beautiful frontyard, BBQ or the views as we would have liked to. Also the closest accessible point (Quiet Steep so not child friendly access) to the river from the house is atleast 1 Km away. Good location for someone not wanting to do much and happy to just kick back and enjoy a tranquil setting

Thanks for your feedback...we do appreciate hearing your thoughts and suggestions. Such a shame you didn't ask us where to swim... We swim in the Motueka River (which is much warmer than the Pearse). There are two swimming places not far from us which are great for young children (they have sandy beaches and shade). As we are on the Western Ranges, we do get sandflies (but luckily no mosquitoes), so it is advisable, especially if the weather is overcast to have insect repellent. Most people come here to get away from the city and understand that we are not near shops...we give very clear instructions for the finding the property on our welcome letter and have deliberately chosen not to signpost the Retreat so we don't get people driving up to have a look and disturb our guests (this happened when we had a sign).
