We looked for three years to find our perfect spot on Skye and we found it at No 34 Camuscross, Isleornsay We have two houses: the original croft house that is our home and then a more modern house that we have turned into a luxurious B&B with only two rooms. It is suited to Couples as there are only kingsize beds in the rooms. Guests may use the lounge in the evening with complete privacy as we own the croft in front of both houses. Spectacular view over The Sound of Sleat towards Loch Hourn.

Directions

From the Mallaig/Armadale ferry terminal at Armadale – Take the only road the A851 and head North – drive for around 6-7 miles. You will very clearly see the sign post to turn right of Isleornsay. Take this turn off. I have then marked the route on the map below. Our postcode , if you have a satnav is IV43 8QS. My satnav brings me up the road but tells me that I have arrived when I get to the pink house part of my description below so it almost gets me right there!

Here is the written instruction that describes the route marked on the map:
You come down the hill to a T junction – left takes you to the hotel Eilean Iarmain, right is sign posted for Camuscross. Go right and follow the low road for about .8 of a mile. Ignore the rh turn that is sign posted for 14 Camuscross B&B. Keep going until you come to a fork with a small derelict croft on your right. . The left fork takes you along Cruard Bay – but here you will turn right and follow the road up the steep hill, past the pink house and round a sharp bend . Continue along this road until you come to No 34. You will pass No 29 ( That’s what they call the house),you will then come to Eravue and then we are two houses further on. This is a dead end so you cannot miss us if you get to this point and you will recognise the house on your left. It is best to go along to the end, turn in the turning circle and come back to the house.

From the bridge

Cross the Bridge, at the roundabout take the third exit for Broadford, Portree. Follow this road for circa 5 miles. You will come into a 40 mile limit part and you will pass the restaurant “Red Skye” on the LHS. At the end of this long straight stretch the road will bend sharply to the right and at this point there is a turnoff on the left for the A851, sign posted Armadale, Isleornsay 8 miles. Take this turnoff and follow this road for 8 miles. You will pass Kinloch lodge on your left and then just after you have entered the 40mile limit you will pass The Duisdale Hotel on your right . Then you will come to the sign post on the left for Isleornsay. Take this junction and follow the map and directions above.

Interaktion mit Gästen

We are available throughout your stay and in advance of your stay to help you get the most from your visit to Skye. We can help book car hire, restaurants, whisky tours at Talisker or just give general advice on walks or driving routes around the island.

Verkehrsmittel

We are 8 miles from Armadale where the ferry arrives from Mallaig. We are 16 miles from the Skye Bridge. We are close to Kinloch Lodge for those of you that want to experience Michelin Starred dining. There are some buses but your own wheeled transport is probably the best option. Will leave the choice of two or four wheels up to you! It is possible to hire a car on the island and there are several private taxi firms who will offer tours if you prefer not to drive.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Thistles on Skye is on the top road of Camuscross and the croft land is fairly steeply sloping. There are steps to access the front door and stairs down to the lounge/ kitchen area. It is therefore not suitable for disabled access. We do have a dog - an English working cocker spaniel and the croft chickens will keep you amused!

If you're thinking about a trip to the glorious Isle of Skye, this is where you want to be staying! What a remarkable location, and a simply wonderful place to stay. Frances and David are devoted hosts who have put a lot of care, effort and attention into their B&B. The rooms are exquisitely appointed, and have a 'to die for' view. David's cooking and baking is out of this world.

Thistles is billed as a "luxury" B&B and completely goes above and beyond that billing. Frances and David made me feel very welcome from the start and offered the little extras that made my three-night stay a thoroughly restful and beautiful retreat mid-holiday. The accommodations are new and up to the highest standards (incredibly comfortable bed and linens, decadent showers!), the food is top notch (and as a baker myself, I can completely vouch for the amazing quality of David's breads and sweets), the location is off the beaten path but well worth the adventure. Truly, I have not enjoyed a better stay ANYWHERE, and I have been recommending Thistles on Skye highly to anyone considering a journey there. Thistles will always be one of the best memories of my holiday in Scotland.

Nice and cosy place! Frendly host!

Simply brilliant staying with Frances and David. The place was even better than the photos and the photos really sold us the location. The room was fitted to a high standard and was truly a 5* experience. Bed was super comfy too. David made the most amazing breakfast right next to the window with the perfect view. His freshly baked highland shortbread were the best I've tasted! Very helpful couple who did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible, even giving us a lift to the local pub for lunch. I couldn't recommend this place enough! Thankyou both for making our stay absolutely brilliant!

Francis and David are excellent hosts. The luxury room was very nicely decorated, carefully furnished, new and clean, with all the things you might need during your stay. The view out of the huge windows of the romm was so beautiful and breathtaking. The breakfast was probably the best you can get in Scotland. We got home made bread, delicious bruscetta and the freshest fruits. Francis prepared a thermos with hot tea and provided us with home made lemon cake to take with us for lunch. The hosts are very, very kind and help you whenever you need somerhing. This is neither a common B&B nor a hotel: Its ways better than all of that, in terms of hospitality as well as concerning the quality of products, materials and the overall athmosphere! We felt very comfortable and welcomed. Thank you so much. We want to come back as soon as possible.

I have thought of Thistles on Skye every day since we left and I imagine it will be on my mind for quite a long time to come. Thistles was a truly special place and more than just a comfortable base from which to explore the unbelievable magic of Skye. This was our first Airbnb experience and whatever doubts I may have had dissipated within minutes of our arrival. David and Frances were spectacular hosts; they helped us with our itinerary, answered all of our crazy Scotland questions, and we always fell into enjoyable conversation. The room was impeccable and it's the kind of place where you want to sit quietly with the curtains drawn, watching the weather come and go over The Sound of Sleat. Simply beautiful. As two vegans traveling in a more remote part of the country, we thought we wouldn't dwell too much on whether or not our hosts would be able to accommodate the "breakfast" part of bnb. We are used to bringing our own food when we travel. However, for any vegans looking for a place to stay on Skye (and I feel like I should use the word vegan many times so that you'll find this review), David and Francis prepared three incredible breakfasts for each day of our stay! Seriously, vegan sausage, porridge, tomato/avocado bruschetta ... ! I cannot recommend Thistles highly enough and perhaps, someday, we'll be fortunate to return again.

Skye is a magical place, and Thistles on Skye made it an even more memorable experience. From the minute of our arrival, to the fabulous daily breakfasts, to every nuance of recommendations and pointers for an enjoyable holiday, the hosts were informative, engaging, and enthusiastic. The view from our room - and indeed the entire property was simply breathtaking, and it was a bittersweet moment when we departed. We will return - with friends, and goodies from home for our special hosts!

Moved to Skye last year and love it. We have the croft house next door to the B&B. David does the B&B whilst I work as an accountant both on Skye and in Edinburgh.
So B&B guests can use the lounge in the evening in complete privacy as we are just next door. We have a great village pub with good food and Gaelic whiskies and we will give you as much or as little help as you like to plan your stay. Breakfast will be served between 8 and 9.30 and you will be welcomed back with fresh baking between 4 and 6 every night.
