We looked for three years to find our perfect spot on Skye and we found it at No 34 Camuscross, Isleornsay We have two houses: the original croft house that is our home and then a more modern house that we have turned into a luxurious B&B with only two rooms. It is suited to Couples as there are only kingsize beds in the rooms. Guests may use the lounge in the evening with complete privacy as we own the croft in front of both houses. Spectacular view over The Sound of Sleat towards Loch Hourn.

From the Mallaig/Armadale ferry terminal at Armadale – Take the only road the A851 and head North – drive for around 6-7 miles. You will very clearly see the sign post to turn right of Isleornsay. Take this turn off. I have then marked the route on the map below. Our postcode , if you have a satnav is IV43 8QS. My satnav brings me up the road but tells me that I have arrived when I get to the pink house part of my description below so it almost gets me right there!
Here is the written instruction that describes the route marked on the map:
You come down the hill to a T junction – left takes you to the hotel Eilean Iarmain, right is sign posted for Camuscross. Go right and follow the low road for about .8 of a mile. Ignore the rh turn that is sign posted for 14 Camuscross B&B. Keep going until you come to a fork with a small derelict croft on your right. . The left fork takes you along Cruard Bay – but here you will turn right and follow the road up the steep hill, past the pink house and round a sharp bend . Continue along this road until you come to No 34. You will pass No 29 ( That’s what they call the house),you will then come to Eravue and then we are two houses further on. This is a dead end so you cannot miss us if you get to this point and you will recognise the house on your left. It is best to go along to the end, turn in the turning circle and come back to the house.
From the bridge
Cross the Bridge, at the roundabout take the third exit for Broadford, Portree. Follow this road for circa 5 miles. You will come into a 40 mile limit part and you will pass the restaurant “Red Skye” on the LHS. At the end of this long straight stretch the road will bend sharply to the right and at this point there is a turnoff on the left for the A851, sign posted Armadale, Isleornsay 8 miles. Take this turnoff and follow this road for 8 miles. You will pass Kinloch lodge on your left and then just after you have entered the 40mile limit you will pass The Duisdale Hotel on your right . Then you will come to the sign post on the left for Isleornsay. Take this junction and follow the map and directions above.

We are available throughout your stay and in advance of your stay to help you get the most from your visit to Skye. We can help book car hire, restaurants, whisky tours at Talisker or just give general advice on walks or driving routes around the island.
We are 8 miles from Armadale where the ferry arrives from Mallaig. We are 16 miles from the Skye Bridge. We are close to Kinloch Lodge for those of you that want to experience Michelin Starred dining. There are some buses but your own wheeled transport is probably the best option. Will leave the choice of two or four wheels up to you! It is possible to hire a car on the island and there are several private taxi firms who will offer tours if you prefer not to drive.

Thistles on Skye is on the top road of Camuscross and the croft land is fairly steeply sloping. There are steps to access the front door and stairs down to the lounge/ kitchen area. It is therefore not suitable for disabled access. We do have a dog - an English working cocker spaniel and the croft chickens will keep you amused!
- Guests may use the lounge but are not allowed to use the kitchen area. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the bedrooms
- Only people who are booked to stay in the B&B may enter the property

Moved to Skye last year and love it. We have the croft house next door to the B&B. David does the B&B whilst I work as an accountant both on Skye and in Edinburgh.
So B&B guests can use the lounge in the evening in complete privacy as we are just next door. We have a great village pub with good food and Gaelic whiskies and we will give you as much or as little help as you like to plan your stay. Breakfast will be served between 8 and 9.30 and you will be welcomed back with fresh baking between 4 and 6 every night.
