One mile from Smith Rock State Park & 30 minutes from Bend, Fallen Snag Lodge will be your very own private nature preserve. A wrap around deck faces the Marsupial rock formations & Crooked river, with lounge chairs set to view hawks, turkey vultures & eagles during the day & for stargazing at night. Ideal for one or two couples wanting to get away from it all in a beautifully appointed, comfortable lodge set in central Oregon's magnificent high desert landscape.

Der Wohnraum

I originally purchased Fallen Snag ten years ago because of my love of climbing & it's proximity to Smith Rock State Park. But over time, I have come to embrace what Terry Tempest Williams evokes in her poem Wild Mercy: "To protect what is wild is to protect what is gentle. Perhaps the wildness we fear is the pause between our own heartbeats, the silent space that says we live only by grace. Wilderness lives by this same grace. Wild mercy is in our hands."

Given that I live in the Seattle area, I am pleased to be able to share this wonderful refuge with like minded others. The lodge itself has two separate, private bedroom suites, each w/ a Queen sized bed & its own private bathroom & shower, and sliding door access to the deck or patio. There is also a bonus room w/ sofa & desk w/ sliding opaque glass doors. It can be used as a reading room or overflow for a sofa-surfing child or guest. The gourmet kitchen has a gas fired stove & oven, frig, dishwasher & is fully furnished w/ pots & pans, cooking utensils & a complete set of dishes, glasses & cutlery for up to 8 people. The dining room seats 6, while the adjacent kitchen countertop seats 4. The living room comes w/ a sofa, 2 easy chairs, and a high efficiency compact Norwegian wood stove. Well water is filtered & purified. The house is well insulated and is relatively cool in the summer given it's northern exposure, w/ windows open at night + fans running in the living/dining room, bonus room & master bedroom suite. Guests have access to the powder room (across from the front door entrance) through which there is a door to the utility room. A washer/dryer in the alcove next to the dining room are accessible via sliding doors. There is adequate parking in the driveway roundabout.

Zugang für Gäste

The cabin is a short 1 mile drive from the Smith Rock State Park trailhead via a winding dirt road. Guests should plan on arriving during daylight hours since there are no streetlights and the lodge is much harder to find at night.

The Snag is a slice of heaven in a secluded spectacular location. We spent a week climbing at Smith and returning after long days on the rock, the house was a relaxing, clean, and comfortable oasis. Menno was quickly available when we had questions and the local beer and wine chilled in the fridge was a treat. The snag had everything we needed - we will be back!

This is a really special spot - a beautiful house in the midst of a breathtaking landscape. The photos are not stock images of the nearby state park, they show the view from the deck or even from inside the house. And the neighborhood is practically an extension of the park. I walked the road from the house to Smith Rock every morning we were there and that tranquil walk was about as nice as the hikes I did in the park itself. Menno was also very helpful and contacted us to give us a few tips prior to arrival. I definitely recommend staying here!

Menno's house is absolutely fantastic and luxurious and we can only sing it's praises. All is spotless, well equipped (down to spices and saladdressing and wine), super comfortable and easily sleeps 5. It was a very hot weekend and shutting house down when leaving, kept it cool and pleasent. And sitting on porch in Morning and Night with the awesome views is priceless. You can watch wildlife, the stars and listen for owls just like when camping, but then retire to an awesome comfy bed and luxurious shower. All together a wow and thank you to Menno. Conny

What a wonderful and peaceful place! Perfect place as home base for Smith Rock and Bend. We had a hard time leaving the house as it was just perfect to relax and hang out in the deck. Menno went out of his way to help us out w a medical emergency we had. definitely recommend staying here. Perfect for two couples or a family of four. hopefully we'll be back
