Nestled in the forest near the toe of the Kennicott Glacier, our 5 private log cabins offer a comfortable place to rest after a day of exploring the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. We are located on the wagon road between McCarthy and Kennecott.
Our cabins, completed in 2015, were modeled after nearby original trapper cabins. Each cabin has 2 full size beds, a small kitchen set up with running water, and a drinking water filtration system. The cabins share a shower house with hot water (also considered a luxury in this neck of the woods!), along with an outhouse. Linens, dishware, and towels are all provided. Bicycles are also available for our guests!

Livvi and Mark will be around Blackburn Cabins daily, and are always just a phone call away!
McCarthy, Alaska was not the first town established to support the mining town of Kennicott. The town of Blackburn was first established in the early 1900’s as a settlement of hopeful workers and businessmen. In 1911, the Blackburn Roadhouse was built. It was a two-story structure built with logs and milled wood, and at the time it was considered the “biggest log structure in the district.” Because its location was not on the direct route of the Copper River and Northwestern Railway, Blackburn did not endure. The Blackburn schoolhouse was hauled to Kennicott and the remaining buildings fell into disrepair. All that remains are indentations where buildings once stood, and one sole outhouse.
Our cabins are built on the old townsite of Blackburn. They offer a peaceful setting for visitors to spend the night away from the hustle and bustle of downtown McCarthy, yet close enough to walk or bike to town to visit the museum or have a bite to eat!
We are located in the center of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, along the 5 mile wagon road connecting McCarthy and Kennicott (1 mile from the footbridge and 1 mile from McCarthy). Bicycles are available for our guests. You may also take the Wrangell Mountain Shuttle between McCarthy and Kennicott for $5 per person each way.
