"Il Pasticciotto del Cappellaio" is the name we gave to our little house because it reminds us of the small pastry cake that the locals eat for breakfast "il pasticiotto", they are small and delicious and soft in the middle just like our little house! It's cosy, quiet and unique with vaulted ceilings.
The apartment is situated on the first floor of a typical old courthouse in the Salentino style. There are two rooms with "swallow tail" vaulted ceilings over three meters high which keeps it very cool in the summer. Entering from the communal courtyard you climb steep stairs to the new front door which we put in this year so that the small water closet is now inside the living space rather than outside the original front door. This small bathroom has wc,bidet and washbasin. From here you enter through the original old double doors directly into the bright spacious kitchen. A door leads to the sitting room also with vaulted ceiling, wooden stairs lead up to the main sleeping area in the open wooden loft (not suitable for very small children) ,here there is a double bed on the wood floor, Japanese style! Underneath in the sitting room the sofa bed pulls out to become a comfortable double bed for extra guests. There is air conditioning which keeps the whole flat cool in very hot weather. A small balcony looks out over the courtyard.
One of the charming features of the flat are the old stairs (steep and narrow) carved into the wall which take you up onto the terrace area, here you have an amazing view over the rooftops of Casarano. There is an extra room with sofa and table but it gets very hot in the summer months although it has it's own portable air conditioner. You must cross the terrace to get to the main bathroom with shower, toilet, bidet and washing machine.
There is a barbecue and table area on the terrace with wonderful views over the old roofs of the old town of Casarano, the barbecue works extremely well, you don't need to add coals!
The terrace area is lovely on summer evenings, sitting in the cool breeze, drinking a chilled glass of salentin white wine, while the barbecue sizzles away with freshly caught fish from the sea!

Our little apartment is right in the middle of the ancient city center of Casarano, situated strategically in the south of Salento where one can reach all the most beautiful beaches in Italy within 15 minutes to half an hours drive from the flat.
All the apartment is available to guests. The entrance however is through a communal courtyard which is shared with Lucia our lovely neighbour who keeps the keys and lives underneath. She is always available to help with anything but unfortunately she only speaks Salentino!

We don't live in Casarano , it is our holiday home but we are very fond of our little house and we try to reinvest the money from one year to the next to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. For any problems while you are staying you can text or phone us and I'll put you in touch with someone who can help.

Lucia lives underneath and so we ask you to respect her space and keep the noise down when coming home late at night.
In the kitchen there is a hidden table under the work surface, it looks like a drawer! Just pull it out when you need a table!

I am English but I also speak Italian as I have lived in Italy for 22 happy years.I am a Bach Flower Practioner and I adore living in the Italian countryside, city life is not for me! My hobbies are water colour painting and gardening. My dream is to plant all the 38 bach flowers and trees in my garden and create a beautiful English, Italian oasis of green peace and harmony.
