First, the good: The house is a spacious and thoughtfully decorated home, with a great layout, a lovely fireplace and sunroom with a wood stove. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped and the main bedroom was light-filled, with a comfortable bed. The creek behind the house is beautiful with lots of foliage and birds singing, chairs for sitting and enjoying the nature, and an overall atmosphere of peace and quiet. Less good: First, in terms of accuracy, it is important to note that the front of the house is literally on a road - not more than 5 feet from the front door. It is a rural road, without heavy traffic - nevertheless, this is an important detail that is neglected in the photos and description. Likewise, there are neighbors on each side of the house that hem in the property more tightly than is evident in the photos. While the interior of the house is quite spacious, the actual property is quite small. And lastly, there are no photos of the kitchen - we asked if the stove was gas or electric, because we cook a lot and prefer gas. We never got an answer from the hosts, and it is indeed electric for anyone else who cares. In addition, we had some major communication issues with the hosts in the beginning. These were partly due to misunderstanding; they attempted to send us the house manual as an attachment through Airbnb, which is not possible, and as a result, we never received it. This was particularly inconvenient, as there is no cell service there, their WIFI was down (which they had let us know in advance) and there is no landline. This meant, we had to drive somewhere else, every time we wished to communicate with them. Their communication was intermittent and seemed less responsive than appropriate for insuring we had everything we needed. As a result, we had no running water for the first 24 hours in the house. We were surprised that the hosts didn't seem more attentive - and further, when we were finally able to speak to them, instead of trying to resolve the situation immediately they were surprisingly defensive. However, ultimately, the hosts did apologize and credited us back money for approximately one night's stay, which we appreciated. In the end, we still had a beautiful stay. Again, we loved the fireplace and wood stove. (There was no firewood provided, but we found some at a Stewart's in East Nassau about 15-20 minutes away). We spent time eating meals and making art in the sun room. We spent a lot of time sitting by the creek and did appreciate that we could hear it from the bedroom at night and in the morning. We made some amazing meals with produce from the Chatham Food Co-op which is about 25 minutes away. Overall, despite the challenges up front, we still had a very nice trip in the end, were thankful that the hosts took responsibility to...
This is a charming house built in 1890. Great fireplace and cozy living room. Bedrooms were spacious. We stayed here in December to ski Jiminy Peak which is 20 minutes away. We bought supplies in nearby Sand Lake/Averill Park and cooked some of our own meals. Kitchen was stocked with cookware, utensils and was just fine for our needs. Dog friendly was a big selling point for us. Our puppy loved it.
