A stunning 'tin tabernacle" built in 1895 and converted by us in 2008. We have created a ‘building within a building’ giving two mezzanine bedrooms floating in the roofspace above a large living space with a gi-normous wood burning stove. (2 further bedrooms) There is a luxuriously bathroom with a sunken bath and a restored 1950's kitchen. Outside is a decked area and wilderness garden with a summerhouse
UPDATE MAY 2017 - Please note WiFi has been improved!!! The former 'Blackgang Mission Hall' built in 1895 and only ever used as a mission meeting hall until we bought it in 2007. It has an interesting history and a unique atmosphere. The Mission is situated on Blythe Shute, just outside the village of Chale on the South coast of the island. Being in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' the mission is steps away from stunning coastal scenery and 'in the loop' for some great coastal walking ... or just a walk to the pub!
Externally the building has been re-clad and repainted using original materials and paint colors. There is a private car park for 2 cars.
Internally much of the original interior remains untouched. We have created a mostly open-plan 'building-within-a-building' inside the main body of the hall. This gives 2 double mezzanine bedrooms floating in the roof-space and underneath a large open sitting area with masses of seating and a gorgeous woodburning stove. Also in the main hall is a luxuriously large bathroom with a sunken bath ...sunken into what was the baptismal font.
At the back of the main hall is the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is a restored beautiful 1950's English Rose model and kind of looks like it has always been there. Fridge-freezer, gas cooker, washing machine and dishwasher as well as all the usual kitchenalia.
Leading from the kitchen is the 'Sunday School' wing - 2 further bedrooms (1 with bunk beds, one with 2 single or 1 double bed)and a second bathroom with a lovely shower. Outside is a decked courtyard a grass area and a raised garden with a bench tree seat,Indian themed summer house and BBQ area..

We will be on hand if you need us but do not live on site.
We expect you to treat The Mission as you would you own home. PLEASE note we do not charge a cleaning fee so expect you to leave everything reasonably tidy.
The kitchen must please be left as you find it with all washing up done and all garbage taken out to the bins ... thank you!

Along with my husband Frazer we own and curate a field full of vintage Airstream caravans and other truly unique places to stay on the Isle of Wight - an Island just off the South Coast of England.
Vintage Vacations is our full time job and we have been doing it now for twelve seasons - we can't quite believe that as it all started with just one silver caravan …. previously we worked in the photographic industry as a photographer and stylist (that's me) but we took the plunge to change direction and have no regrets :-)
On our downtime we like to travel all over the world … usually in a lo-fi fashion as we do like to have adventures! We try and gather inspiration and hosting ideas from our travelling that we can use to improve what we have created here.
We really enjoy meeting our guests and fellow wanderlust-ers and look forward to helping you have a fun and memorable stay. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about our places to stay or the Isle of Wight in general - we're happy to help.
