My family had planned a weekend getaway for the 8 of us to reconnect and spend some time together. When we arrived at our original Airbnb booking (not this Listing), we were very disappointed to find that the previous renters had trashed the house, leaving it in terrible condition and forcing us to find somewhere else to stay as a family. In an urgent attempt to save our family vacation, we found this listing posted as an instant book option. After reviewing the posted photos, I contacted the host, letting her know that our planned vacation spot was in poor condition, and she ensured me that her listing would be comfortable for our family. The listing was $1800 for 3 nights, which was $500 more than what we had set aside for our original listing. I asked her if she could honor $1500 – she agreed but could not figure out how to make that adjustment online. With her re-assurance that the home would be a great fit, we agreed to pay the full $1800. My family was driving from all over Virginia to meet at the property. After personally driving 5.5 hours with an 18-month old child (when we had initially planned for a 2-hour drive to the former property) we arrived to a property that was in no shape for renters. The house did not show in person like the photos nor was it as the host had described to us. The property had not been cleaned. The carpets had dirt on them and were stained and soiled in areas. The refrigerator was completely full and dirty. The bed sheets were damp and mildewed. The home had an unpleasant odor to it. The fans, tables and lamps had layers of dust on them. The house was heavily lived in with lots of clutter and little room for guests. There were several updates and repairs that needed to be made; for example, there were make-shift closets in the home, and a door without a handle. Quite simply, we were very disappointed, as we were hoping to find a welcoming and clean retreat where our family could spend time together. Unable to find other accommodations and so far from home, we cleaned what we could, replaced the bed sheets with new sheets, laid down towels over sections of the carpet that were dirty and tried to salvage our time together. If we could have rescheduled our vacation for another weekend, we would of, but this was not an option for us. As much as I would like to, I cannot recommend this property to other families. While I feel terrible saying all this about someone’s home, this property is being advertised as a vacation rental space and we paid a significant amount of money to stay there. Unfortunately, the property owners have declined to offer me a refund of any kind. I am writing this review not out of malice, but to save others from having a similar, disappointing experience.
