A fantastic stay with one of the warmest, most interesting hosts - John Angus. John Angus was inviting, hospitable, with a real wit and full of knowledge and stories. My girlfriend and I, both having travelled in the past together and on our own, had great conversations with him. His being a musical man, I heartily suggest you have an improv jam session with John Angus . We did and it was the best Maraca / Tamborine / Accordion experience - loved this!! Strongly recommend sitting down with John Angus. We enjoyed sitting down to a quiet meal and having his company on our last night. He was as much a part of our brilliant time there as the scenery and relaxation!!! We will be back!!! The house is incredibly warm, with an older aspect to it as well as a modern. Views from the house were breathtaking. Birdwatchers, amblers, stargazers, and those more scholarly will find this a blissful haven. Facilities were clean, in excellent working order (J.A had done much of the work himself and to a high standard), and we really wanted for nothing. Onsite parking. WiFi signal excellent. Easy to get lost on first arrival. GPS was intermittent Isle of Lewis once in to the open countryside, (hardly surprising tbh) so it is essential that you know where you are going and do not rely solely on a sat nav. Would suggest making clear arrangements with John Angus before you arrive so you are in No Doubt . John Angus was incredibly helpful and called us to see where we were and gave first class directions. He even came out to find us. Fortunately we were only 30 secs from his door.

Fantastic location with view to the sea. John is a practiced musician with a command of multiple instruments and has a great knowledge of Scottish music. He's well traveled and also knows plenty about the island, and the town of Arnol. He was terribly helpful as I prepared to go to St. Kilda early in the morning!

Taigh Solus is aptly named 'Light House': apart from being perfectly positioned to contemplate Hebridean sunsets, it is a masterpiece of luminous and artistic design. John Angus was companionable, and at times discreet. It was a luxury to be able to cook in his spacious and lovely kitchen. I do feel that the directions could and should be clearer. e.g. turn off the main road towards the cost at the brown signpost to the Black House; and turn off by a dark green portacabin, to his house which is a little set back from the road. We were quite lost on a dark and stormy night, and he drove out to find us.

I apologies for not informing you to not use satnav. Normally I do. Satnav will not take you to my door but my directions will. They clearly state to take the 2nd turning into the village (there are only 2 turnings) and not the first, but, nonetheless, I will have clear signs in place in the future and I am trying to change the satnav, which is proving difficult. The problem is that the houses in the village are not sequential. Your other points have been noted. It is my first full year doing airbnb and I am constantly learning. Guests see things that I do not and I am glad of the feedback as I take my responsibilities as a host very seriously and my wish is to see them leave happy with a good positive experience. Thank you for your kind comments about my house and yourself and Phoebe are welcome here anytime.

First about the space and location: Although this place may seem a bit out of the way in Lewis, you will find no other place better fit to discover the island. You should definitely plan to stay more than the 3 days we planned to see the Island. Also you can achieve total relaxation in the croft house of John Angus. The fresh air, the views of the sunset, his badass kitchen is exactly what you need. Now about the host: He is A1. Knowledgeable, friendly, and kind are a few of his traits. Whether giving you history about the island and its sites, or enjoying a conversation with an experienced traveler, you will find no better host. Stay here.

My girlfriend and me stopped for a night at Arnol during our Scotland-roadtrip. John was very inviting, it was really fun and interesting to talk with him about Scotland and the islands. We felt very comfortable. Definitly would come again!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in Arnol very much, a peaceful place. John Angus is a pleasant host, straightforward and prompt (also in communication before our stay) and attentive. It was nice to use the kitchen for making our own dinner. And we liked the way we could just help ourselves to a nice breakfast. Definitely recommended!
