I'd like to start right away by saying that Sharmagne is an excellent host. She's charming, fun to talk to, and makes her guests feel as welcome and at home as possible. She also let us use the amenities in the house which we really appreciated, despite the listing saying you would not have access to them. The issue is the tipi. When we arrived, Sharmagne immediately took us to see the tipi. It is directly in her backyard and in full view of the house and very noisy road. It is not on the river. While she does say it is a two person tipi, it is much smaller in person then the picture comes across as, because there is nothing for scale in the photo. It was also an unpleasant surprise to find out that the reason there are no interior photos was because there isn't really an interior to this tipi - the walls of the tipi itself were about ½ a foot off the ground and there was no floor lining whatsoever. The grass in and around the tipi is about 3 ft tall and not mowed. We instead slept on the matted-down grass. There was also a mole hill just under the edge of the tipi, so we slept on top of that too. I woke up with a slug in my shoe. The top of the tipi also does not fully close. Basically, any kind of tent, even one with a few holes in it, would have been better - it would have done a better job preventing rain, mole hills, and slugs from getting into the sleeping area. While it doesn't say in the actual description that you should bring sleeping pads, you definitely should. We unfortunately couldn't manage to get any on time for this tipi trip. When we got to the tipi and it was clear that the ground/grass was still a bit damp from the previous day's rain, Sharmagne offered to give us a tarp and some blankets to sleep on. Unfortunately, she did not have any clean tarps available, so we slept on quilts directly on the grass. This would have been fine if the quilts were clean and the grass was dry. Instead, the quilts had very obviously been lying in storage for months and were mildewy and in very poor shape. One of them had some kind of animal poop on it and the polyester guts spilling out. We woke up feeling pretty stuffy and wheezy after spending the night on those blankets. In the end we left after the first night, even though we had booked the tipi for two nights, because it was very unpleasant. If the lawn was mowed and the fee was a fraction of the cost, this place might be worth your time. Instead, stay in the lodge because the lodge is fine and Sharmagne is wonderful.

Antwort von Sharmagne:
I'm sorry you had such a miserable time. The pasture is on the river... the tipi is in the pasture, hence it is one the river. The grass is not a lawn. It is a pasture. Two trails to the river have been forged. The rest is left in a wild state as a natural habitat for the animals that live on the 7 1/2 acres. A tipi is supposed to have space between the bottom of the tipi and the ground. (URL HIDDEN) The smoke hole remains open. Had you removed the smoke hole poles as I showed you, the flaps would have closed. I also told you that you could awaken me anytime day or night if there was any problem. You did not. The blankets were in the closet of the green room. nothing was moldy or musty. There was no animal feces on them. Yes, one of the quilts is coming apart. It was used primarily to put under one of the other quilts so as not to damage that quilt. You were going to bring mats and then failed to do so. I am sorry the makeshift accommodations were not to your liking. Since you showed up without anything, I did the best I could under the circumstance. You might have noticed, I was preparing dinner for a houseful of guests when you arrived. Grass is generally not dry when it is raining. You forgot to mention your boyfriend had to borrow a net because again, you came totally unprepared for your fly fishing trip. Also he was fishing without a license on a river that was closed on September 1st for fishing to protect the coho. The tipi when purchased was referred to as a "two man" tipi. I have slept in the tipi with an additional grown up at music festivals with no problems. It was quite cozy. My daughter and I have slept in it in the Sequoias, no problem.

Warm, outgoing, artistic, gourmet cook, gardener, poet, film maker published author, fly fisher-person...

The lodge is open year round, but I am only there in the summer from July to September to host you. And I then travel to some fun destination. Last September I went to Tuscany and Venice for a month.

The lodge is great for people who enjoy fishing and also for those looking for a writer's retreat or just a place to unwind from the hectic world!

During my off season, I have a caretaker named Jeff who cleans and greets you upon arrival.
