Rural feel but only three miles from the vibrancy of downtown. Easy access to the Pearl, NW, South Waterfront too! Clean and spacious with a back porch looking out over the big, quiet yard.
Apartment on the first floor of a daylight ranch. Very little traffic and rural feel, but only three miles from downtown.
Free street parking.
Big backyard bordered by a forest. Outdoor patio with table, chairs and a charcoal grill. Backyard play structure and fire pit in the woods. Private entrance into a cozy family room with window seats, wood stove, a TV with internet access ( no cable) and a pull out leather sofa that sleeps two. Bright, clean kitchenette and pleasant dining area. Kitchenette includes a microwave, small wall oven, toaster, coffee maker, large dish set and utensils: everything you need for simple meals though not major cooking as there is no venting system.
Tiled bathroom with a big bathtub and shower. Queen sized bed, handmade dresser from Taos and small desk in one room. A double bed with lovely Taos dresser in second bedroom.
High quality linens. Good mattresses and pillows regularly replaced.
My 18 year-old son (occasionally) and I live upstairs, but the downstairs is your private space.
Due to new AIr B and B regulations, I have a maximum occupancy of 5 though I have beds for 6 as well as a spare room that is not listed off the rental that has the option of an air bed.
I also have Short Term Rental Permit as required by the city of Portland so know that the space passed all safety and building code requirements. Many people in Portland do not have this permit.
Wireless internet, blu-ray and Netflix for your use. There is no cable and I do have regular network tv but the reception is not great. Also, a full game cabinet with kid, grownup and family board games.
There is a coded entry so if you are on the road or flying in late, you can check in on your own late with no worries.
There is a cozy woodstove in family room and I will provide wood, build a fire for you or show you how if you'd like. I also recently installed a heat pump/air conditioner.
One caveat: While the space is private, sound will carry so know you'll hear footsteps and voices or music or whatever living noise. You will hear us and we will hear you. (unless we're gone and then it is a very quiet house and very quiet area) Feel at home and no worries!
Also: I am not ADA approved. Access is down stairs or a slightly steep gravel path. There is not a grab bar for the deep tub. There are loose rugs. It is a safe and well-maintained space but if you have mobility or balance issues please be aware of this. Thank you.
PLEASE note that this is NON SMOKING property.

1. Please honor 10 am check out. ( Some days it is fine to stay later so just ask. Otherwise, I really need the time. ) This has become such a problem that I am going to ask 20 dollars an hour for every hour past the check out unless it is fine on a given day and we have agreed.
2. Please honor 5 pm check in. I will try to have things ready for you earlier and will always let you know if there is any way I can be ready to welcome you earlier.
3. PLEASE turn off heat and lights and close windows when you leave.
4. No smoking anywhere on property of any substance!
5. No pets of any kind inside or out. I care about animals and am not comfortable with dogs left in cars overnight or chained outside. So please, if you have dogs, my home is not a good choice.
6. Please compost and recycle. I only get garbage pick up once a month and do try to limit impact on the earth.
7. Please conserve water. Also, only run one appliance at a time to avoid tripping a fuse. The house is older and can't take the bid electrical draw.
8. Please remove shoes.
9. No heavy cooking inside. Nothing fried and no fish.
Thank you! I hate to have so many rules but these are all issues I have encountered repeatedly and I am not a hotel: this is my home.

I am a high school teacher so have more time summers than I do during the school year.
I was born in southern New Mexico on the border and was raised in northern New Mexico. My childhood was rural and I showed horses, did 4-H and rode in the rodeo. I moved to Oregon to attend prep school when I was 16 as the educational opportunities in my hometown were limited I attended college in Colorado Springs but came to settle in Oregon afterwards. I love to travel and see the world, but after 35 years in the Pacific Northwest, Portland is home.
