Near NJPAC, Rutgers, the brand new Whole Foods, Halsey street shops and Newark Broad Street train station, this lovingly refurbished home has a decorative fp and original hardwood floors, dishwasher, new fridge, stove and country sink. You’ll love my place because of the large eat-in kitchen, high ceilings, the marble bath with soaking tub and skylights, the Stearns and Foster mattress and 100% cotton sheets. Ideal for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
We imported tiles from Mexico, including saltillos, to decorate the eat-in kitchen. The bathroom sink looks like a wedding cake and features a soaking tub.

This apartment has high speed internet. Our favorite places to shop for (organic) food and produce: Wholefoods in Newark, Halsey Street.
In or near Newark, I buy fish in Ironbound. Seabra’s supermarket has very fresh fish at an excellent price. They also have fresh baked Portuguese bread. I recommend the Health Food Store on Broad Street near the Stadium. It is difficult to park there. Newark’s Pueblo supermarket has excellent and affordable avocados, mangos, yuca and plantains along with other Latin American fruits and vegetables. It is located on Mt. Prospect. Fruitstands (just past Saint Michael’s) on Broadway have fresh fruits. In Montclair (North of Newark, up Bloomfield), I recommend the Montclair Bread Company’s whole wheat bread and pizza. Whole foods is also located along Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair). In NYC, you can shop at the 4th street organic food coop, Whole foods, Gary Null’s Whole Foods Uptown (at 89th and Broadway), or the Union Square Farmer’s Market.
No drugs, no pets, no smoking, no introduction of guests who are not listed on your reservation. Treat the place as if it were your own. No toilet paper inside the toilet (please use the wastebasket: our plumbing is over 100 years old): you will thank yourself later! Observe parking rules. Please clean up after yourself and contact Rubén or Laura here or by email if you have questions.

Hi. Laura is originally from Seattle and Rubén is originally from Peru. Now we live in Newark. Laura has been an English professor since 2000 and Rubén writes poetry and can fix most anything. We enjoy cooking, eating organic local produce and practicing yoga and tango in Newark and NYC. Our family likes to travel to learn about the world and have recently visited India, Brazil, Peru and Cuba. We like to read Elizabeth Bishop, Shakespeare, and Carlos de Rokha. We respect others' privacy but we are happy to help strangers as we know what it is like to be in a foreign land. Our motto: "you reap what you sow."
