Lo mejor del apartamento es la ubicación, en plena parte vieja de Castro. Aunque tiene como contrapartida los ruidos de los fines de semana por la noche.

This apartment is a gem. Oscar, the owner. Wonderful brave Spanish man with best English I heard during enough long stay in Nothern Spain. Very helpful telling about all bright events in Castro Urdiales and places to visit around it. Apartment. Everything you need to cook, eat, sleep (and sleep good) and relax. 30m to water, 70m to supermarket, 100m to the closest bar, 150m to the closest restaurant, 250m to 1000-year church. About 20 TV-channels in Spanish. Sometimes little bit noisy in the nights (young people on Fridays-Saturdays and seagulls other days) but that’s the only truth that is unpleasant. Castro Urdiales is better than Nice. Just no Lamborghinis or Rolls-Royces in the streets and with no Hermeses, or Diors on a first line. In summer the city is full of tourists, mainly from Spain, with few English and Germans, Swiss and Norge and just one pair speaking Russian during 2 weeks. 15 minutes drive to Laredo, 30 minutes to Bilbao, 60 minutes to San Sebastian, another 10 minutes from it to Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France. Ocean. There are two beaches in Castro Urdiales. Sandy beach at eastern part (called Brazomar), with sun beds/umbrellas €4 each and two big dressing rooms and toilets (4 minutes by car or 15 minutes walk) and fine gravel beach at western part, no services, but in 5 minutes walk from apartment. A unique grotto with a cave and big pebble beach just 30m from the door – with fresh ocean water and lovely high tide – low tide effect that has a water level difference about 4m! We used to swim in this grotto every day and more often than other beaches. Shops. Most of them work in the morning from Monday to Saturday and in the evening from Monday to Friday. But it’s a lot of small shops or chicken-grills that are open on Sundays. Food. Dozens of small groceries with fruits, fish, meat, bread around made us happy. BM supermarket is just 70 meters from the door. Pintxos (tx=ch) is a local wonder at every bar, coffee is wonderful, vines, seafood, fish are outstanding, but meat seems not a king here. Sidrería Marcelo is a must for meat eaters. Fish is everywhere, but try Restaurante La Arboleda – just don’t ask the menu, believe in chef’s choice. Most of restaurants serve lunch with limited menu for €12-14 per person. Dinner will be €30-50 per person. But if you’re ready to act as a chief, you’ll spend €10-12 per person! Parking. Oh! Marked green/blue – for everyone, for charge. Sometimes it takes 5-6 rounds around a block to find a place. Payments is tricky – you pay twice a day on working days for time slots 10:00 – 14:00 and 16:00 – 20:00 (€2 each) and €7 for the whole weekend day and leave a ticket in a car. Night time and siesta hours are free. Parkomats - in every block, accepting cards and coins (just coins around Brazomar!) And yes, I recommend this...

Castro Urdiales is a great place for holidays (beach + cuisine + party) with an easy connection to Bilbao (modern bus with free wifi). This apartment is in an excellent shape and has all you need, except wifi connection. The host was honest and very helpful. The outside door to the building is a bit hard to open, but it can be opened always with a bit of exercise. Overall we were very happy about choosing this appartment and this village for our holidays. All you need in Castro is in walking distance from the apartment.
