Christine's place is awesome. The location is perfect for seeing the Glass Beach and visiting Mendocino. Her breakfast meals are insanely good. It's also very cool that you have other guests to visit with in the common areas and at breakfast. I will book there again if I ever travel back to that area.

Christine redirected us to a room downstairs when we originally had booked a room upstairs that was really too warm to sleep in. This was much appreciated.

Christine is a gracious and accommodating hostess. Her B & B is well appointed, clean, and very comfortable. The location is great, being really close to Glass Beach and easily walkable to downtown. If you stay here, do not miss breakfast! Christine is a phenomenal cook, and my son and I had great starts to our days with the delicious, healthy, and generous meals that we were served. The next time I am in Fort Bragg, I will do my best to stay here again.

Hot water ran out for my shower/bath. And while I love the claw foot tub, the water wasn't warm enough to take bath and you couldn't stand to take a shower (it has a movable shower head). So you had to bend your neck awkwardly and bend in order to wash your hair (maybe just a long hair problem). Faint septic smell in our room. I couldn't tell if it was because of dog pee or the old carpet or both. I wasn't sure if that is why they called it granny's attic. Not sure if this is true for all rooms, but the bed mattress needs to be replaced because it wasn't comfortable at all. Also, if you close the windows to avoid mosquitoes then the satin sheets get really really hot. If I had turned on the fan I'm sure it would've been fine though. While they didn't provide shampoo, they did provide a nice smelling lotion and some make up remover. I was afraid that the roosters would wake me up in the morning, but no, it seems they like to sleep in in the morning. :-) they were very funny and sweet. Instead the skunk train was the only thing that was slightly noisy, it runs right behind the property. Very neat though. The hot tub was a nice way to start off our stay, we did share it with another couple, it was kind of tight, but still relaxing. Under a shady tree, a few Nats and spiders as a result, but nothing scary. Breakfast: love the coffee mugs, the servings were big, and it was delicious and served with a smile. While the French toast was too sweet for me, it was all very very good and everyone at the table wanted seconds. It was the other young couple and one single guy in his 40s who we sat with at 9:15am that made it feel like just another brunch on the city. Before that is when I met the larger than expected corgi dog who when standing on two legs was as tall as my chest! I'm 5'7. Friendly, but I wondered if his bark woke anyone up. Treat: Since it was 4th of July weekend, they made these great little cheesecake cupcakes with blueberries and strawberries. Cleanliness: I gave the team a small tip/all the cash I had on hand and consolidated all of our sheets and towels (another way to help the housekeeping team out as it saves them time). The place was Spotless! We would stay again, maybe another room? The benefit of the attic room was that it felt more private than the others, but again the aforementioned disadvantages. Overall a nice, cozy, clean, place.

Antwort von Christine:
I will confess your review made me laugh a bit. Riley sounds really, really huge!!! So, we tested it. Standing, he comes up to my 5’2” roommates thighs. (Not chest) Corgis are classified as a medium size herding dog. originally breed to herd cattle. The standard for a male is 30lbs. Perhaps you’ve only ever seen very small corgis? The room you stayed in has a 20 gallon hot water tank that is designated specifically for that room, and it’s only a couple months old. Perhaps you washed your hands a lot prior to bathing, or didn’t wait for the water to get hot? The listing specifically states –there is no shower in that room, “tub only.” That is one reason it is our "budget friendly room," the least expensive room in the house. However, most people staying in that room do choose it because they want the tub. It’s impossible for there to be a urine smell in the room, because we do not allow pets, and Riley stays in my apartment. That’s certainly NOT why its called granny’s attic. (Again the comment made me laugh - are you implying granny has a bladder issue?) It is, however, a former attic space that's been remodeled- I think the room name makes that pretty clear. Guests who have an issue with the smell of cleaning supplies (which is the only thing I can think of that could be construed as “antiseptic”) may ask in advance for fragrance free. You yourself said “the place was Spotless!” I’ve lived here 5 years and haven’t seen even a single mosquito - But yes, I’m sure that the attic room does get stuffy in summer with the windows closed and no fan on. The mattress in that room is only a couple years old, and has a tempurpedic topper (as do all our rooms.)Guests who prefer a harder bed can always request we remove the topper. All of our rooms include; conditioning shampoo, lotion, hand soap, body soap, and makeup remover, some additionally have body wash in the shower. If for some reason you received two lotions and no shampoo, I apologize. It would have been appropriate to ask one of us for some shampoo. The skunk train only runs between 11am and 2pm, so that shouldn’t have been a noise issue.
