Our family of six spent this past week on vacation at the Highlander.
The amenities at the cabin were as described and the accommodations proved to be quite cozy. The beds were really comfortable and we loved having a full kitchen at our disposal to prepare meals for our large family. The views were beyond spectacular - the photos in Valerie's description really don't tell the whole story.
A few rather minor issues should be noted. The hardwood floors could use a thorough cleaning. Walking around barefoot resulted in black feet after just a short amount of time. The living room sofas are synthetic leather and overly worn. There are large patches of red upholstery that are completely missing and other areas that are cracked and peeling. I'm 225 lbs and couldn't sit on the large sofa without sinking into the middle. Probably time for replacement. The gas grill on the deck needs a new gas hose for the left burner. I cooked out on a few occasions but was only able to use the right side of the grill.
All told, we really enjoyed our stay at the Highlander. The location on the southern end of Pigeon Forge was absolutely perfect for our needs. Quick trips into town were a breeze and we had quick access to National Park or Gatlinburg for our longer excursions. The pool was a really nice bonus as well. My wife REALLY loved the abundance of clean towels and linens that were provided. Also, having a washer and dryer was critical with small children. We were able to pack significantly less clothes and traveled home with clean clothing. Last but not least, my family felt safe our entire time there. The Sherwood Forest community was teeming with other families and small children. These are the little things that make a big difference for me when traveling with my kids on vacation.
I highly recommended a stay for anyone interested in spending time in the Smoky Mountains!
