Our rustic home is an artistically-appointed barn in a private, quiet woodland setting. It has an open floor plan upstairs and down; an odorless, waterless composting toilet; separate shower room; patio with fire-pit and wood-fired soak tub. Upstairs sleeps family of 4 or CLOSE friends with queen bed, and two twins (one behind a curtain, the other in an alcove). 5 minutes from downtown LP, 20 from Whiteface Ski center. High ceilings. Well-equipped kitchen. Private trail and lean-to in the woods.

Der Wohnraum

Indoors and out, Ryder Hollow is all about melding your experience with nature. In the great room, the north picture window encompasses the majority of a 12' x 27' wall with a sweeping view to a meadow in the northern boreal forest. Wood-burning stove and in-floor heat for cold evenings.

Zugang für Gäste

A 20-minute private unmarked trail loops around property. We hike/snowshoe/x-country ski on the trails, map provided. 5 minutes down the trail is a lean-to, with chiminea oven, ideal for picnics or forest monasticism. Trail continues across creek onto state land. 1-hour climb/snowshoe from the barn reaches glorious views on top of Little Seymour Mountain with its three lookouts.

Weitere wichtige Infos

The driveway dips down into Ryder Hollow from the top of the drive which is on a hidden curve. When leaving, take time to carefully consult the convex mirror across the street on the telephone pole. There is no dishwasher and there are breakable things that we ask renters to be careful with. Children under five or rowdy kids need supervision. It's important to resist crawling out on top of the pantry which is accessible from the stair.

This is a gorgeous and very well-designed renovated loft-like barn full of lovely and personal details. We loved cooking in the well-stocked kitchen, making fires in the fire pit, hanging out in the wood-fired hot tub, hiking the trail on the property, reading in the hammock in the lean-to, and just relaxing in the beautiful location. My kids loved the birds, the chipmunk who kept running across the road, the many frogs in the pond. The beds are deliciously comfortable and everything is vey sophisticated and well considered. We loved it!

Ryder Hollow is a special place. The barn is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. We spend most days making fires and soaking in the woodfire tub. Our breakfast was eaten in the meadow out front where there was a picnic table. The summer activities we went to the beach at mirror lake which was great and our 3 year old loved it. Also, Lake placid is a 10 minute ride away and we rented a speed boat and went around which was super fun. Moreover, the trail leading from the barn was also a really fun activity and we had a gorgeous view from the top. Karen and Peter were so friendly and helped us out a lot. We would definitely recommend coming here.

Staying at this house offers an exceptional experience in Lake Placid. Its location is quiet and secluded yet only a short 5-10 minute drive to the center of town. The backyard of this house is so unique and beautiful. We enjoyed snowshoeing through the trails, exploring the wilderness, and taking in the beautiful views! Karen and Peter were clearly excited to share the experience that this house and location has to offer. We felt so cozy and at home while we were there. We have been to Lake Placid many times and staying at this house definitely made this particular visit our best vacation there to date! Highly recommended.

We (2 adults, two girls 9/11) had a wonderful President's ski week in Karen and Peter's house/ barn. Communication was easy and reliable, we were welcomed and introduced in the in's and out's of this remarkably beautifully converted workshop/ barn. You actually rent this house for the experience of being in an inspiring house of two artists - it is not a cookie cutter experience with an all practical set up and layout, but a house with character, art and views into nature. The house was very clean and well prepared for us, warm and cozy (we loved the radiant heat!). The pictures are absolutely accurate, this is exactly what you can expect. The most impressive surprise was the compost toilet which is entirely hassle and odor free - it is not what you may expect from any kind of outdoor or camping or anything else. It is odor free, not exaggerating. We loved the two levels and the natural light on both floors, the art work, ceramics, fabrics and books (not cluttered!). We wanted a place where we could stay in all day reading and playing if the weather was too cold for skiing and we did indeed stay mostly inside and around the large beautiful property for 2 days. Lots of space for all of us, a very well equipped kitchen, relatively small bathroom with shower. We did get over missing a dishwasher really fast and still cooked every day. We would all go back in a heartbeat and discover the property in other seasons too. The distance to Whiteface was 20min and well stocked shops are a 10' drive. Karen gave us many suggestions of what to do in the area after skiing. As my husband put it 'It's not a rental, it's an experience!' And a wonderful one!
