Peace and nature abound. Enjoy our secluded and shady spot near the lagoon, only one mile from downtown Vineyard Haven. Easy drive in--drive out-your own driveway/parking space. Separate apartment in a peaceful neighborhood. Enjoy a relaxing holiday in our humble no-frills home. Dog friendly -meet our goats. Easy access to the whole island. Breathe deeply and recharge.
Note: We rent to all! Welcome all races, religions, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities. All are welcome here!
Centrally located and out of the hustle bustle, down a peaceful tree-lined lane is this lovely ground level apartment. Adjacent to the Lagoon trail and a 15 minute walk to Main St. in Vineyard Haven village. Near to the bike path and a short walk to the lagoon. The apartment has its own driveway and private parking. Buses to anywhere are available just up the lane to a main thoroughfare.
The space is below a year round house with a separate entrance and separate driveway only for your use. It is completely private. Full kitchen and bath as well as a separate bedroom and a pull out couch. The apartment is open concept, though the bedroom can be closed off with a curtain. The bedroom has a beautiful queen sized bed with a new Nest mattress. The pull out queen sized couch bed in the living room adds flexibility. The apartment is cozy and comfortable and works best for a couple with children or one guest, not ideal for two couples, due to little privacy.
We have air conditioning, newly installed. And a new huge water heater, for any length of shower. Gym, pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room is located in Mansion House, 1 mile away.
Visit the local wildlife refuges, take a hike on a land bank property or prowl the shopping districts in the three down island towns of Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Take a trip up island or jump on the ferry to Chappaquiddick. We are a short drive or bike ride to Eastville or Owen Park beaches. Any of the Oak Bluffs or Edgartown beaches can be reached by bus as well. I can advise you of a few other places to check out.
The Vineyard is known as a high end retreat for the rich and famous. Our Easy Vineyard retreat is the down to earth reasonable version and an affordable way to visit our diverse and welcoming island.
The space is especially good for writers and artists who need a hideaway to get some work done. We have internet, a desk available and a great selection of reading material.
We have a new heating and cooling system installed, you will be cozy on the cool days and can stay cool during the hottest days of summer. During the summer there is an outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach.
If you are bringing your car across on the ferry, you will need to make a reservation--off season is more reasonable than during the summer.
If you are not a dog owner, don't worry the apartment is fully cleaned with a Hepa filter after each guest. If you long to play with dogs, my dogs will happily help you out. We have two pygmy goats, who roam in a fenced in section of our half acre property. They love admirers.
Come visit our oasis for a week or a month and make yourself at home.
The apartment is a simple, no frills studio apartment. It is not a "high-end" property, and it is not a hotel, it is our humble home. Please keep this in mind when you book. We appreciate your kind consideration.
Zugang für Gäste
Please ask for anything on the list that you don't see. I have it.
If you want to use the gym, pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room at the Mansion House hotel I have passes. 1 mile away, ask me for parking tips if you want to drive.
Beach chairs and equipment, gourmet picnic basket, small barbeque, eclectic books, board games, yard (fenced), dog tether, full kitchen with all cooking utensils, towel warming rack, single cot (best for children), hammock, laptop computer for TV/movies, meditation mat and pillow, fire pit, island information, dog advice, nature walk suggestions. Whatever you need I can get it. So far there's been no request I have not been able to meet (actually there was one, I don't have a printer, but I sent guests to a place where they could print). Just ask.
Interaktion mit Gästen
I will interact with you as much or as little as you like. After having been a host for a number of years I keep an ear out in case there is a problem but will leave you to your privacy so you can have a peaceful stay.
Weitere wichtige Infos
There is no smoking on the property, of any substance. If you smoke this is not an appropriate setting for you.
The apartment is suitable for those with chemical sensitivities, I use only green cleaning products and can make an air filter available.
Cost for dogs is $10 per day or flat fee of $50. This is to pay for the cleaning service who comes in to use the HEPA air filter between guests so those with mild/medium allergies can book. Those with severe allergies, might want to consult with me before booking. Cats have never been in the apartment, just dogs.
There will be bugs. We use organic bug spray before you arrive. We are in the woods and the apartment is on the ground floor. Bugs are part of the island ecosystem--which includes cuter animals such as rabbits, turkeys, deer etc. If you are afraid of bugs and this will affect your stay, you might consider a hotel room instead. We have screens, fly swatters, essential oil sprays and all bugs are removed before your visit. But, particularly in the summer, there will be bugs.
All six towns are worth a visit. I suggest for a week stay you spend one day in each of them (with a seventh day on Chappy) and can make recommendations for a self guided tour. If you prefer a beach week, I can make some suggestions of places you might not have heard of. Once in a while I have played tour guide, can't guarantee I'm available, but I enjoy showing guests around--especially if they have dogs I can take you to some great places where they can run.
No charge for dogs off season (October - April). I am strongly recommending against dogs in July and August--they are not allowed on beaches and I do not want the dogs left in the apartment unattended. Talk to me about options if you want to bring your dog--before you book.
October through December and March through May the Vineyard is a dog lovers paradise. Really. Actually the deep winter months are pretty good too. Year rounders love dogs! All the beaches are empty and dogs can (mostly unless there are wildlife preservation rules) go off leash. The Oak Bluffs Tradewinds dog park is a dream come true for dogs and owners alike. Lots of people take their dogs with them when they go shopping or even to a movie--its common to see dogs hanging in the back seat of cars happy to be looking around at comings and goings. All the land bank properties are kept up through all the seasons--amazing walks. See recent pictures from dog walks in late October.
The Vineyard truly shines in the off season. Do you need a place to clear your head, reconnect to nature and get away from your devices? Sleep late in your comfy queen sized bed.
Recent review from Ellen, who stayed here in late September/October: "I loved the quiet and peaceful setting as well as the land bank nature walk across the road which takes you to the lagoon. The dogs were adorable. Sara is a great host with lots of Vineyard info. I loved the thrift store right down the lane and the great yard sales. Its the perfect car free spot with a 20 minute walk into town, bike lane just up the street. I'm coming back as soon as I can to see the fall foliage which is already starting. Thanks Sara!"
We have two pygmy goats who roam on the hill--you can watch them out your kitchen window. If you want to have an up close goat encounter, I can show you how to feed them and/or you can take them on a walk around our property.
No smoking of any substance anywhere on the property (no judgement just allergies.)
Please watch open flames.
Laundry is available for guests with prior arrangement. Please give me a day heads up if you would like to do a load. Please do a good job of shaking out sand, it ruins laundry equipment.
Let me know what you need I probably have it.
My dogs are not supposed to go into the downstairs apartment, but they will try their best to convince you that this rule is not in force. Don't believe them.
Watch the drains and toilets, we have a septic system and want to be responsible to the preservation of our island aquifer, don't dump caustic substances and try not to use too much water.
Dogs are not allowed on any furniture, please bring your own dog bed or crate for them. Dogs may not be left in the apartment alone.
Our neighborhood is a quiet, peaceful place. Noise travels in the night, please be quiet when you come in late.
Park facing or backing into the wooded hill turn left when you get down the driveway. Please don't park facing the fenced in garden.
Please bring your own beach towels.
Please make use of the compost bin alongside the shed.
Everything in the shed is available for your use, go take a look. Beach chairs, grills, hammock, small cot, etc, etc.
Have a great time on the Vineyard.

I am a recently retired teacher and school administrator. I have lived on 17th St in Brooklyn for thirty years and recently purchased my dream vacation home in Martha's Vineyard, MA. My son finished with graduate school and lives around the corner. I think Brooklyn is the greatest place on earth--at least of all the places in the world I have been so far. Come and visit our great borough.
