Taner and his brother were very attentive and really nice people. Taner even made a special effort to be up at 4am to ensure we made it to the airport okay. The room's location is great and vintage atmosphere were its strong points.
At the time we had difficulties with the wifi dropping out every day we were there. Whilst Taner did his best to solve it, it was frustrating when one spends time researching the next day in the room. The toilet and shower being in the same wet area was uncomfortable to be honest.
We would recommend staying here.
Great quiet apartment, spacious and very central to historical sights, in a lively neighbourhood.

Unfortunately I could not meet our hosts, but I found the flat like described on the site. Just an issue with the Internet connection but it was fixed in a phone call. You can hear the Muezzin from your bed, this is magic.
I didn't realize how booked up the hotels would be in Istanbul and was so lucky to book with Taner last minute. I am a woman traveling alone and it was a bit intimidating to book with Airbnb from America. Taner's reviews and the package he sent beforehand was really reassuring. My cab driver gave up trying to get to Taner's place and dropped me off a block away and pointed where to walk. This will happen with a lot of shuttles and cars because some blocks in that area are very narrow and cabs get nervous about getting stuck. Luckily I had a map that Taner sent and Taner's father was out waiting for me. The apartment was HUGE and less than the cost of a much smaller hotel room. And there was water and a Turkish Delight in the fridge for me! They also keep tea in the kitchen!
Taner and his brother Tansel (who is married to a woman also named Tansel... It's pretty funny) happened to be headed to dinner and invited me to join. I felt like I won the lottery. We ate at this 3rd floor restaurant overlooking the Galeta Bridge. So amazing! I felt so welcomed and like I got a real insider look by staying with them. The rest of my trip was great. The apartment is so close to everything, and at 5:45am you will be awakened by the Call to Prayer at all the Mosques. Magic! There is a seafood restaurant down the block recommended by Lonely Planet that I walked to and ate at my last night.
As a word of warning to women travelers, especially Asian ones, there are very aggressive carpet sales men in tourist areas who will try to talk you up, try to speak to you in every Asian language, and may even follow you. I was exhausted by them the first couple days venturing alone and found that by putting on sunglasses and wearing my hair in a scarf that I was able to avoid harassment.
Also, you can get a return shuttle to the airport for about $7, you may just have to walk your things across the bridge (super short) and wait at a hotel. It's worth it. Super cheap.
Thank you Taner! I will send friends or stay again when coming to Istanbul!
Taner and his family were excellent hosts. We were made to feel incredibly welcome and they went above and beyond to make our stay be as enjoyable as possible. The apartment is spacious and comfortable and exactly as it appears in the pictures. I would definitely recommend staying in Sultanahmet Gardens and having Taner as a host.
We stayed in this apartment with our 1 yr old daughter. The advantage is that it is within 5 mins walk to the blue mosque and hagia Sophia, it is spacious and well located. We didn't have the warm welcome spoken of by many of the previous reviewers, unfortunately we were given a cursory review of the Apartment by Taners father and shown vague directions with brief hand gestures and quickly left to do our thing. Disadvantages of the flat are that it's very warm, we were there in summer heat and the air con does very little to cool the space, it's also an old shabby apartment (like so many situated in the old city) and quite far from any supermarkets so if you need supplies you are limited to corner cafes. There is no microwave or (website hidden) only has Turkish channels. Overall ok if you have a short stay and would like to be close to the sites and don't mind old (and a bit shabby) surroundings.
I had an excellent time staying at Taner's place. The location was great and Taner really made sure we had a great time. Definitely recommended.
We had a lovely time in Istanbul staying at this apartment. Taner and his family are warm hosts and the apartment is in a very convenient location near the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi Palace.
Taner was extremely helpful while we were in Istanbul. He greeted us when we got there and helped us with a cab when we left.
The space is very big and clean. There was a nice garden and it is close to all the main mosques and bazzaars.
It was very easy to get around from the apartment.
I highly recommend Taner and this apartment!
