My home is located in a small picturesque town set under a big prairie sky and a backdrop of majestic mountains. Known for abundant antique stores within a small radius, it is an hour south of Calgary and close enough to the Crowsnest Pass and Kananaskis Country for an afternoon drive. Solo adventurers, couples or business travellers will love staying here because of the many nearby amenities as well as the cosiness and quiet comfort that comes from being in a small town community.

Der Wohnraum

My home is one of the first six brick houses built in the community in 1926 thus the rooms are small as were the style in that day. The kitchen is spacious enough to cook the family meal and the dining area cozy. Centrally heated, there is one bedroom in the heart of the home and two rooms located down the hallway for those who prefer cooler night time temperatures.

Zugang für Gäste

Guests will have access to the entire home during their stay with the exception of the outside garage art studio.

Interaktion mit Gästen

I will be available to settle guests in upon arrival and familiarize them with the house rules and where to leave the key when their stay has ended. As this is my primary residence, I am usually on the property daily gardening or working in the studio. I have alternate sleeping arrangements when guests stay so that they can enjoy their full privacy between the hours of sunset to sunrise.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Guests should park at the side of the house and enter through the back gate. A motion sensor light will come on as one approaches the landing. The basement stairs are very narrow and steep. It is not recommended that people use them unless they require the use of the laundry machines. The area is well lit but extra caution is required as there is no stair rail. As this is my primary residence, under no condition is the house to be left unlocked when guests leave.

Although we never met Arlene, she phoned us to explain about the key and phoned us when we left. The house is so artsy and clean and beautifully full of great prairie antiques. There are loads of books, recent best sellers and antique ones about the west. She provided generous breakfast supplies and a well equipped kitchen for us to make breakfast. The house is about 4 blocks from downtown, and Arlene left a note suggesting places to eat or have coffee.

My boyfriend and I only stayed at Arlene's for a night, but that was all it took for us to fall in love with her charming home. We enjoyed how cozy the 90+ year old house was and could tell Arlene takes great pride in her home. We loved seeing both the neighbours and the robins picking fruit from her backyard in the morning and spent the day exploring Nanton, Ab. We browsed the numerous antique stores and ate some delicious ice cream at the Nanton Ice cream shop, located right next to the candy store on Main street. We were a little disappointed that quite a few cafes and shops were closed on Thursdays, but we appreciate the slower pace of this small town and look forward to visiting again. A great place for a creative retreat or just some much needed relaxation.

Wow! Arlene's home is amazing! Not only is it well-equipped for all your needs, it is beautiful, too! We decided to stay in Nanton as part of a tour of southern Alberta. There were 4 adults in our group and there was plenty of room for us in this house - we used the 2 bedrooms with queen beds but there is also another room with a single bed. The beds had enough firmness to be very comfortable for us. The kitchen is well-stocked with utensils, cookware, spices, and more. I require access to a kitchen when I travel and this met all of our needs. Arlene also left milk, bottles of water, eggs, cereal, Tassimo pods and a great selection of tea. In the bathroom, there is a choice of a shower stall or a beautiful claw-foot bathtub. The towels are luxurious and the toiletries are lavender scented - a BIG hit with my travel crew. This is an older home (about 90 years) and has great character. Arlene has furnished it with many antiques and artistic touches. The home has hardwood flooring throughout and Arlene has added beautiful area rugs throughout the home. You will love communicating with Arlene! She is VERY helpful and in tune with her community. Information about Nanton was posted on her fridge and she also updated us about current special events - we were there during Nanton's Round-Up festival :) Arlene is very accessible and ready to answer questions. Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, we didn't get to meed face to face but this did not affect the level of comfort we had in her home - she is a wonderful hostess! I wish we could have stayed longer (we were there for only one night) as there was still more for us to explore in Nanton. If you love antiques, you have the opportunity to visit MANY shops all located in the same general area. I only made it to 2 of them due to our time of arrival. Some shops close as early as 4 pm while others stay open until about 5:30 (this was on a Sunday). Be prepared to spend a LOT of time browsing because you can find just about anything there! Don't forget to visit the candy store - it has an amazing selection of sweets. There is also a great ice cream shop right next door. My husband went to the Bomber Museum (we had been there before but it is a great place to re-visit). They have an Avro Lancaster as the focal point of their collection. I highly recommend this place. Thanks, Arlene! Everything was lovely!

Irene, thank you so much for your kind praise of my home and community! Would it be alright if I took an excerpt from your feedback and posted it to my J. T. Foster House (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Page? I would only use your first name in the testimonial. Best regards, Arlene*

Arlene's place was the perfect place to stay after a week of camping. It is very restful and cozy. And it was a great jumping off point from which to explore the area. Arlene was very helpful and even allowed me to come a night earlier than I had planned. She also has a beautiful gallery up in High River.

Arlene was a wonderful host; we appreciated meeting her very much. We were grateful for her recommendations in the area. It was a good place to spend the night; we landed in Calgary and were on our way to Glacier National Park. Cute house, perfect for 2 couples!

I am the owner of a small business (gift/art gallery) in southern Alberta. I enjoy weekend getaways to the countryside or the mountains where I can indulge in some of my favourite pastimes; hiking, sketching and taking photographs. I also enjoy trips to the big city to take in theatre, shopping and site-seeing. I am a thoughtful and respectful guest who enjoys simple luxuries at the end of a day - a cup of tea, a comfortable bed and a good book to read in a clean and quiet setting. I have a simple home with few distractions (no television). I enjoy my environment and extending a sense of warm and welcome hospitality to my guests.
