FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN:
Many families with children have enjoyed staying in our home. However, the house is not "child-proof"—we do not have child-proof locked cabinets, and the upstairs loft could pose a problem if your child is a daredevil prone to climbing.
We don’t have AC and have never found it necessary, as cooling is provided by the “green” technology of the cupola on top of the house, which works by convection to keep the house cool. Our caretakers will open the cupola for you prior to your arrival. The cupola, three large fans, and excellent insulation, as well as the fact that it is on average 10-15 degrees cooler in the mountains than in the city, keep the house comfortable. Of course, this is not the same as perfect climate control of 72 degrees at all times such as that provided by AC.
- No pets unless approved prior to rental.
- No smoking indoors. If smoking outside, please use ashtray and safely dispose of ashes.
- No parties. This does not mean you can’t have friends and family up for a good time. Please do! It only means that when the caretaker drives by he should not see the parking lot packed with cars or cars parked up and down the road.
- We have satellite internet—no streaming or downloading; email and web browsing only.
- This is a no-shoes household, except for the basement. We supply spa slippers, or you can bring your own pair of slippers or shoes for indoors. We would appreciate it if you could leave your outdoor footwear in the mudroom and wear our slippers or your own slippers or “indoor shoes” in the rest of the house.
- Guests will need to take their trash to the Windham Transfer Station at 105 Mitchell Hollow Road.* The cost is $2 per 50-gallon bag.
You can recycle—plastics, metals, cardboard, and glass—and there is *no charge* for recyclables. If you choose to recycle, you will need to separate the recyclables to go into their respective bins. Green recycle bags are provided; please return them after use.
Hours are 8:00am–3:30pm Sunday, and 7:30am–3:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Closed Wednesdays and holidays.
*We will charge a trash removal fee, starting at $50, for any trash or food left behind.
-Please remember to return your KEYS before leaving: 1 to the lockbox, and 2 to the drawer. We will charge a $25 replacement fee for lost keys.
My partner and I are artists and amateur naturalists. Once we discovered the Catskills, we knew this was a place where we needed to make a home. We truly enjoy living on the border between culture and nature, and hope you will as well.
