Mauricio is a soft-spoken sweetheart who answered our special request to check out late in the afternoon with " no problem." Same with our request to cook dinner in his kitchen. He is VERY accommodating, and interesting to talk to.
I have to preface the following comments with the fact that Mauricio's place is hands-down the BEST deal in the area if you're on a budget and don't mind just the bare basics. There's no coffee maker or microwave, but he did let us use his refrigerator and stove even though kitchen privileges were not listed among the amenities. TV was listed, but the TV is only for watching DVDs--no cable or regular TV. Mauricio provides movies to watch, but my friend wanted to see an "important " football game (yeah, I don't get it) and had to go to a bar to watch it.
There were two beach towels in the bathroom, but they had to also serve as bath towels. The cleanliness I would describe as typical bachelor pad, which doesn't bother me; just don't expect it to be like a pristine hotel room. The upside is that there is no cleaning fee. Some hosts charge as much as $ 50.
There's a nice view of the courtyard from the balcony, and there's a pool and hot tub, where we met some friendly people who shared their food and drinks with us. The apartment is about a mile from the beach and close to stores and restaurants. Try Tark's and Johnny's Boston Bar & Grill.
This is a gated community and you have to enter a code which calls Mauricio to let you in. It was kind of a pain; a couple of times we had to talk our way in, and at first we didn't know our host's last name, but the guard eventually got to know us.
It sounds obvious, but make sure you know EXACTLY where you're going beforehand. We depended on GPS and it was wrong. The complex is big and it's a bit tricky finding the apartment.
This was our first Airbnb experience and overall it was very positive. I definitely recommend Mauricio's place. Bring your own bath towels, write down the directions, and enjoy!
