A cosy, quirky 17th/19th century cottage with simple charm. Small, stone, single storey one bed dwelling that used to be the village shop. Log burner in the spacious lounge. A kitchen with everything you need and it's own secret garden with views of Riber castle which can be seen whilst sitting in the rustic garden room. Ideally located for exploring the Peak District National park and the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Matlock 2.5 miles away with pubs, supermarket, restaurants, shops etc.

Die Unterkunft
The cottage will be at your complete disposal, from the photos you can see there is a spacious lounge, a compact but fully working kitchen with all the utensils you require, if the weather is bad you could build a log fire and bake a cake! A spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a large walk in shower. Included in the price is bedding, linen and towels, tea, coffee and sugar. There is a log burner but you need to bring your own logs. First fire made up. Parking is on the road outside the cottage or just down the hill in the village square. Number 3 used to be the old village shop built in the 19th Century but some parts date back to the 17th Century! The outside space includes a small garden with a rustic garden room where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the distant view of Riber Castle or just lock up your bikes. From the garden a gate opens onto to the public footpath that takes you down to Wensley Dale, a very beautiful area with rare breed sheep wandering around and wild flowers everywhere. From here you could walk into Snitterton or climb Oaker Hill the views are stunning!

Lage

Wensley, England, Vereinigtes Königreich

Thank you for looking at Needham Cottage, Wensley. A pretty stone village which was once a thriving lead miners community. The garden can be reached via the ginnel, ie turn left from the back door, keep walking until you see the gate with Number Three on it, that is us. Here you can enjoy the view and see Riber Castle in the distance. Togetherwith the unusual upcycled garden room, table and chairs. A public footpath passes the garden gate and this leads you down into Wensley Dale, not the Wensleydale where the cheese comes from but our own dale of outstanding natural beauty.

The Area

The Derbyshire Dales is a place of wooded valleys, with an occasional steam train chugging through, passing sparkling rivers with their ancient stone bridges and rolling green hills sprinkled with picturesque villages with their unique shops, cosy pubs and cobbled yards. Don't miss the Barley Mow at Bonsal or Wirksworth. There is plenty to do and see from arts and crafts festivals, pop festivals, antiques shops and fairs, markets, historic houses like Chatsworth and medieval Haddon Hall. In addition to this there is the world heritage site in the Derwent Valley for historians of all things industrial including Richard Arkwright's Cromford and Masson Cotton Mills, at Cromford. The summer events list is endless with Well Dressings from May to September, The International Hen Racing Championships are hillarious, beer festivals, the spa town of Matlock Bath with its theme park, The Heights of Abraham, the arcades and pubs with live music are about 4 miles away and not forgetting Matlock itself, only 2.5 miles downhill a pleasant market town with the river Derwent running through it, a lovely park with boating lake, several pubs, wine bars, music venue, market day is Wednesday, there is a large Sainsburys, (supermarket) Wilkos, Iceland and unique shops. etc.

Parking for the cottage is either outside on the Main Road or in the village square just a short walk away.

Thank you again for looking at Needham Cottage.
